A couple hours “testing” the Smart Battery Case on the X

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 01:56 PM PST

I am on 12.1.2 on the X NOT 12.1.3 beta and it works PERFECTLY. No muffled sound, or speaker playback. Besides a SUPER MINOR camera alignment , works like it was designed for it. I do have videos but not trying to self promote. Here's to images showing it working: https://imgur.com/a/iGQ7NyJ

    https://imgur.com/a/rqmhwRK

    Camera: https://imgur.com/a/FlOH7K8

    Bottom speaker holes: https://imgur.com/a/rc2VvVi

Edit : Many are asking about the mic and speaker, tested phone calls, Spotify , hey Siri and all worked FLAWLESSLY. Zero issues, no noticeable sound difference or muffling.

Please advice: ridiculously bad experience AppleCare+

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 11:08 AM PST

OK, here goes... So I own an iPhone X, which is now 13 months old. It's a 256GB model, bought directly from apple.nl (webshop). Immediately after the purchase I got AppleCare+. I paid almost 1600 euros in total. The device is in perfect shape, sure there are a few minor scratches but it never fell or is damaged in any way.

Now, after 13 months of normal usage, there are a few hardware failures:

    • The speakers sound very bad, like always extremely low quality and low volume.
    • The microphone is the same, during phone-calls people often can't understand me so low is the quality.
    • The lightning cable connector doesn't recognize a connection in 80-90% of the times a cable is connected.

It surprises me that these issues all show in just 13 months of use, but since I paid the 229,- euros for AppleCare+ I thought I was fine. So, called Apple Support, explained the above and the device was picked up by UPS, send to Apple and then this happened:

They responded with a message saying that the repairs were not covered "because the device has been modified" and since the costs for repair are 860,- euros they will send the device back to me unrepaired.

After literally years of buying and using Apple products, even developing apps for the App Store, this completely blew me away: WHAT THE HELL?

After calling several times with them, a 'Senior' advisor would escalate the issue to find out what they mean by 'modified'.

It has now been almost 2 weeks. The iPhone is on its way back to me, and if all is correct a 'Manager' will call me tomorrow. I asked for this because I kept hitting a huge brick wall: every advisor I spoke to is unable (or willing?) to help me.

Let me be clear: the device has NOT been modified, and Apple so far is unable to tell me 'what' has been 'modified'. All they keep telling me is that they will not repair the phone.

So that leaves me with an iPhone X + AppleCare+ for 1600 euros which is unusable.

Any advice what to do? I honestly am about to give up. I've read similar issues online about such claims by Apple but they mostly seem to be about refurbs, which this is clearly not (again: it is bought directly from Apple).

    Thanks!

    The R-Word

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 10:51 PM PST

I noticed a pretty cool small detail on the HomePod when it comes to turning devices on/off.

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 06:30 PM PST

Let's say you're in the living room with your HomePod. If you go to turn a smart appliance off or on in another room, Siri replies confirming that the command sent. If you say, "turn on the light in the living room," Siri doesn't talk back. Such a small detail that makes it easier to tell whether or not a command went through in another room without having to go check!

Macbook Pro 2018 Screen Flickering Issue

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 01:04 AM PST

I recently purchased a 15 in Retina Macbook Pro and had to send it back due to an issue where the screen would flicker randomly and go totally black. I took it into the apple store and exchanged it for a new one.

Now the new one has a similar (but different) issue. The screen will just randomly flicker but no brightness issues. This pretty much only happens when using Chrome or Safari.

Are these issues just common with this model and is there anything I can do? Or am I better off exchanging it yet again.

    Appreciate any suggestions and opinions.

Thinking Different: Keys to Adopting an iPad-First Workflow

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 08:53 AM PST

It's 2019 and still can't email to Google contact groups/labels.

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 01:07 AM PST

Pretty much what the title says. I just want to be able to email to contact groups/list/label using native mail app or Gmail or Outlook. If there's an app that can do this, please let me know.

Also, in Mac, contact groups/labels doesn't sync with the Contacts App. The Contacts App is also really buggy. Often, I would just see the groups I already set up being empty. It's just so frustrating to use this app with Gmail, Google accounts. Any suggestions on how to make this experience better? TIA!

Differences between being hired from KellyConnect vs. Apple directly?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 09:26 AM PST

I'm interested in an At Home Chat Advisor position for Apple I see posted on KellyConnect. I've seen these same positions posted before as well and they are usually posted on KellyConnect, but not on Apple's site. I've heard people before say there are differences between which one you go through to get hired (such as pay, benefits, etc.). If I were to go the KellyConnect route, would they actually be my employer or how does that work? If so, can I eventually shift over to Apple being my employer or will it always be Kelly? What are other differences and what have others experienced? Just trying to figure out if I should go ahead and apply for the one posted on KellyConnect or wait it out and apply when it's posted on Apple's site. Also, any experiences people can post about what the position is actually like to work for those who have done it would be great as well.

Siri position on touchbar is wrong

    Posted: 18 Jan 2019 01:22 AM PST

Most of the times I want to reach backspace or mute I will accidentally touch the Siri button and as a result I'll have to close it with escape or mouse. I believe Apple should add force touch on touchbar because now is really frustrating

    Siri and voice control

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 06:36 PM PST

So I got an iPhone 6s. Used to be my older sisters, I love it, it's a good phone, amazing battery life. There was just one problem, with the ear buds I use, they have a mic that is always on so the slightest touch of the base of them would pause my music, and any sound at all, even me breathing, will set off Siri. I didn't like Siri being set off automatically so I disabled her. All is good for a day, but then when I am watching YouTube, this Siri esq screen pops up and it says voice control. It is just as bad as Siri for popping up when I do the slightest thing. I went through all the settings and even searched online, but there is no way to disable it. It really is a nuisance. Last week while I was sleeping with my phone next to my bed with headphones plugged in, voice control thought it heard something so it tried to call one of my contacts twice, while I was sleeping, at 4 in the morning. After it called one of my contacts twice, it stopped with a screen that popped up saying that I had the max of 3.50 charged to my pay as you go account for making a call, even though I didn't solicit the call as I was asleep, and the contact didn't pick up as he was asleep as well. Sorry this post is so long, I just wanted a place to vent.

Does anyone's iphone Xs Max make a creaking/squeaking noise when you apply pressure at certain angles?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2019 11:22 PM PST

I can reproduce this sound by lightly twisting the phone and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issue?

If it's just me should I ask for a replacement?

At any point from when someone uploads a photos to it getting to iCloud servers, is there ever a time when photos are not encrypted? Or are your photos encrypted on your device and not on their servers?
