New to Mac OS living in a android/Microsoft world

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:42 AM PST

Hi, I'm about to purchase my first ever mac and I would like to know any recommendation in how to live within mac OS world bearing in mind that I don't use any apple services (imessage, icloud, iphotos, etc) as I've always been an android and microsoft user.

The services I normally use on daily basis are; onedrive, google drive, gmail, outlook, word, excel, google keep, and microsoft to-do.

    Cheers

Fix for Mojave power drain, yet?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:10 PM PST

Is there a real OS fix to the Mojave power drain, yet? This is super annoying. Turned my notebook into a desktop. (Hyperbole...but still frustrating.)

Can't force quit apps from dock?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 05:31 PM PST

I could have sworn I used to be able to force quit apps from the dock. Some apps refuse to quit normally unless you run through their save dialogues. I can work around this using Activity Monitor, but it's several extra steps.

Overlay logo on desktop during a presentation?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 12:35 PM PST

I have a logo that I'd like to remain in a corner of the projector display during an event. I'll be showing the MacOS desktop and some applications and want the logo to remain floating above the entire time. Is this possible somehow?

Need to downgrade from Mojave to High Sierra, but upgraded over a month ago and trying not to lose data. Looking for help!

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 10:38 AM PST

    Hello all,

I make music using a program called Ableton and it is not yet fully compatible with Mojave. I have contacted the developers of Ableton and they recommend downgrading my OS until they come out with a new update for their software.

The issue I am facing is that I upgraded to Mojave over a month ago and have since created and modified many files on my computer. The only way I know how to downgrade would be to restore my computer from the last saved volume on my Time Machine backup that was saved while I was still was running High Sierra. By doing this, I would be running High Sierra again, but I would have lost all of my progress on projects during the past month since I upgraded to Mojave one month ago. The only way to hold onto those recent files would be to dig through my Time Machine backup and move newly created or modified files one by one onto my computer that is now running High Sierra.

Any tips or ideas on how this could potentially be less of a pain to deal with? Or is this the only option I have until Ableton puts out an update that is fully compatible with Mojave?

This wouldn't be much trouble if I had found out I needed to do this shortly after upgrading to Mojave, but now that so much has been created and modified on my computer it seems like a lot of work.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Safari always glitches out once in a while

Safari always glitches out once in a while

Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it? It only happens once in a while but it really is annoying. I used to have an ad-blocker and I thought that was the cause but I disabled the ad-blocker but the problem is still there. Would really appreciate the help.

Mojave playing "alert" sound when using command+R to refresh browser page

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 08:51 AM PST

I've never seen it do anything like this before. When I refresh a page in Chrome, it makes that annoying "alert" sound (which you can hear if you go to system preferences -> sound -> sound effects -> and double click on "ping"). It usually does this if you try and run a command that is invalid for the currently focused window, but it still happens when I am focused in Chrome, and refreshing still occurs normally. Any idea what could be going on?

Edit: it also happens when I use cmd+w to close a tab...

Safari UNUSABLE after MacOS Mojave Update

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 06:02 AM PST

Good morning and happy holidays all --

I finally upgraded to Mojave yesterday and Safari has become absolutely unusable. Scrolling lags every 2-3 seconds and YouTube only works if I don't touch the computer. If I move the mouse or scroll or try to interact with the webpage, the video starts lagging and only the audio continues to play.

I have no add-ons running. I cleared my cache and cookies. Have restarted the browser and computer countless times. I know I'm not the only one with this issue, but was wondering if someone out there may have found a resolution that wasn't AdBlocker or clearing the cache/cookies. Safari was my go-to browser and now I need to use Chrome exclusively.

All help is appreciated. Thanks --
