Your thoughts on this latest model of Apple MacBook Air? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 03:31 PM PST According to Amazon, Apple MacBook Air (13-inch Retina display, 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 128GB) - Gold (Latest Model) is $150 off. Is it worth it? What are your thoughts on this Macbook? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:19 PM PST I recently updated my Macbook Air to mojave and have found it to be running slower than it did before. I was wondering the best way to clean up my mac so that it could run smoother or any other way to help it to speed up. [link] [comments]

2018 MBA 16gb Ram or 2018 MBP TB 8gb Posted: 23 Dec 2018 12:04 PM PST I have ran into a conundrum of what to do between the two aforementioned MacBooks in the title. I'm getting my wife a new laptop for Christmas as she has been rocking my 2009 MBP that I updated with 8gb of ram and 512 gb SSD a few years back. The computer runs fine but the framework of the computer is starting to break down. The hinge has a crack, the touchpad is getting spotty, and the sound sometimes has issues. My wife uses her computer for work but it is mostly for some light sound editing, uploading videos, and email/word workflow. I purchased a 2018 MBA 256 gb with 16gb of ram from BH photo for $1399 and it should be arriving soon. Yesterday I noticed that BH photo was running a deal on the 2018 MBP TB 256 gb with 8gb of ram for $1499.00. Since they have this specc'd model at my local Best Buy, I braved the Christmas traffic chaos (not a great idea, was stuck in a parking lot for 45 minutes trying to get out) and had them price match the MBP off BH photo. I am having an internal struggle on which one to keep. I don't think my wife will do much to really need the quad core processor of the MBP but it would potentially be more future proofed. Ive read some people having issues with the MBP running hot and battery performance lower than expected. I'm also not a huge fan of the Touch Bar. On the other hand the screen on the MBP is much brighter and that quad core processor is leaps and bounds better than the MBA dual core processor. Here is my conundrum though, I got the MBA with 16gb of ram with the anticipation that in a few years the new standard of ram will be 16gb for day to day tasks as google chrome and other basic tasks are beginning to push the 8gb ram threshold. I like the physical function keys, the lower processor runs cooler and will have better battery life, and i'm not sure if my wife will notice the slightly dimmer screen on the MBA. After this long winded story of how I can't make up my mind, my question for the people smarter than I am: Which one should I go with? Which one will be running more smoothly in 5 years for day to day tasks? She doesn't do anything crazy on it but I just want to make sure it'll be running smoothly with future MacOS updates. They're close in price but I see trade offs in both. I'm nervous about the sacrifice of 8gb of ram in the MBP TB for in a few years but i'm also nervous about the lower power processor of he MBA in a few years. Is a quad core processor with 8gb still a better choice than a dual core processor with 16gb in a few years. I'm going crazy. Please help end my journey into in madness with this decision. Applecare+ worth it for 20% of the cost macbook pro? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 12:26 PM PST I am set to get an apple refurbished MBP 15 and just can't decide if applecare+ is worth the money. I am not that interested in the accidental protection cover as I am careful, it is the extra 2 years warranty that i want after reading too many horror stories about keyboards, and whole logic boards been replaced. Tbh, for the price of these laptops, I would expect 3 years problem free usage as a minimum. 1 year warranty shows a lack of confidence in the quality of the product imo. Over in the UK you can only get applecare+ and it is really expensive. £399 which is 20% of the value of the refurbished. base MBP 15. If it was about 10% of the cost of the laptop I would get it for the peace of mine but 20% seems too much. What do you think? [link] [comments]
Opinions Needed on Selling MacBook Posted: 23 Dec 2018 10:56 AM PST I want to upgrade my hardware so I need to sell my current laptop. I have been told that MacBooks retain great resale value, so I guess I have somewhat high expectations. How much should I sell my Macbook for? Model: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, early 2015) Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel IRIS Graphics 6100 1536 MB OS: Mojave 10.14.2 Would selling it privately via Craigslist be my best option? Edit: Screen has scratches that can only be seen when turned off along with other minor cosmetic blemishes. Thanks [link] [comments]
Why are there so many "EFI Firmware Password Unlock Lock Removal" Services on eBay? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 04:11 PM PST I'm trying to sell an old MacBook of mine and I keep seeing ads for sellers offering to unlock a MacBook for $50-$100 and then mailing it to them. It seems like an obvious scam because through eBay's eyes you're basically sending them your MacBook for no reason. All they see is a transaction for some bogus removal service and $50 leaving your account, and there would be no way to get the item back. Anyways, why does eBay allow it? [link] [comments]
Advice needed on selling 2018 15 inch MacBook pro with touch bar Posted: 23 Dec 2018 11:51 AM PST Processor: 2.2 GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel core i7 Memory: 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Graphics: Radeon pro 555X Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB Storage: 256 GB I bought this 2018 model only 3 months ago. I am not using its power in any way and so I would like to sell it. What price should I sell this for? I bought it for $2400 without tax and I am thinking to sell it for around $2100. Which sites are preferred to put this up? Craigslist, eBay, Swappa? Any others? [link] [comments]
How much is too much for a refurbished MacBook Pro? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 05:03 AM PST Hi guys, I am looking for an old MacBook Pro for my time at university. Now I was looking for a 13inch MacBook pro 2014/2015 and noticed they all sell for around 1000€/1150$ here (Germany). Now ..is that too much? Because I am able to invest around 700€/800$ ... :( What would be an alternative? An older model? Using it for programming, browsing and probably some light photoshop and premiere? Anyone know whats wrong with my display? MBP 13" 2016 Posted: 23 Dec 2018 07:11 AM PST Vid: https://streamable.com/tkfjz So I closed the lid of my MBP and then when I opened it again my display was broken. I've tried resetting pram but nothing helps. I think theres an issue with the hardware because its the same when starting the computer. Hardware diagnostics says all is OK. [link] [comments]
MBP Mid 2015 15" or Mid 2014 15"? Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:04 AM PST so, i'm planning to get a MBP for photoshop, lightroom, FCPX, and for school work (bootcamp for Creo). is the MBP 2015 15" a better choice? i don't care about the force touch trackpad, however the storage speed upgrade seems really tempting. is the bootup speed on the 2015 model much faster than the 2014 one? and also stuff like opening apps? both are the same specs other than the storage speed. 2.2GHz 4770HQ, Iris Pro 5200, 16GB ram and 256GB SSD. i'll be getting used, and the 2015 one costs slightly more. the 2015 one has 768 cycles of charge, meanwhile the 2014 one has barely 100 cycles. which one should i get? or am i better off with a windows laptop like Dell XPS? (i'm fine with premiere pro) the only reason i want the MBP is the excellent display (and also the ports). [link] [comments] |
