iMessage, Mojave and the spinning rainbow wheel Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:34 PM PST I have a 2012 Mac Mini (quad core server edition), MacBook 2015, and a MacBook Pro 2016...all with Mojave loaded. Every one of them has super slow iMessage performance where i get the spinning rainbow wheel for the simplest of operations. Like typing text in a reply...it will stop for 15 seconds or so before it recovers. There is no other app that exhibits this laggy behavior...and I'm running MS Office, Kiwi for Gmail with no issues. Hell, I can run iMovie with heavy edits with no problem but iMessage just curls up into a corner into the fetal position. WTF is wrong with iMessage in Mojave? [link] [comments]
Restart problem on macOS Mojave. Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:29 PM PST My mac is restarting on itself while in sleep. Whenever I open the lid its says it has been restarted due to some issues during sleep/wake. Anyone else facing the issue? I'm on macOS Mojave 10.14.1 [link] [comments]
"Turn on screen saver when login token is removed" No Longer Works Posted: 30 Nov 2018 12:32 PM PST We currently use smartcards to login to our Macs. After upgrading to Mojave, this feature no longer works. Anyone else facing this issue? If so, are there any workaround in the meantime while Apple fixes this bug? [link] [comments]
Numbers Formula Help: Rank Alphabetically? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:11 PM PST Hi, Thanks for giving this a read. I need to have two separate tables, one for data entry where users will input a Name and two Dates on each row, and the other that is a printable presentation that only shows those Names that have one or more Dates that are expired. This spreadsheet's users need to not have to Sort or organize or even add or delete rows, just enter info into the next open fields. Anything more than that will be way too much. Everything works as intended. If 5 of 42 Names in the first table have Dates that are expired, the second table only shows those Names and Dates, in the first 5 rows and nothing else. However, since the Names will not be entered into the first table alphabetically, neither are the Names in the second table. I'd like them to be. Is there a formula to take a column of Names and Rank them (1,2,3,4, etc.) alphabetically? Thank you. [link] [comments]
MacOS Mojave: disabling the swap Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:39 AM PST So it seems, that after upgrading from High Sierra the swap is back in the game again. I have a mid 2014 MacBook with 16 GB of RAM. Given the fact the model ships with an SSD drive i always disable the swap since i've never met an out of memory warning and my typical workflow eats 9 to 12 GBs. The old guidelines for turning the swap off doesn't seem to work, most likely because the paths to the swapfiles and the settings layout were renamed/moved. Can confirm that: is not working anymore. Does anyone know how to shut the swapping off for Mojave? [link] [comments]

Is there a way to reset window sizes? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:28 AM PST I have changed the window size on Safari and since then, every single tab and window I open, opens in the same size I closed it in. Is there a way to reset the window size back to its original form? [link] [comments]
MacOS Mojave big battery drain during idle Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:37 AM PST I tried all the possible solutions out there but still I experience some battery loss (20/25% each 10 hours) during idle and still I can't find a way to make it stop. Did any of you have this problem and managed to fix it? [link] [comments]

Any way to add nightshift to menu bar on MacOS Sierra? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:39 PM PST It's really tedious to go into settings every time I want to enable/disable nightshift. Is there any 3rd party app that puts the option in the menu bar? 10.12.6 [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:59 PM PST Hi among my macs I have a 2009 8 core xeon mac pro, I upgraded the graphic card from an ATI Radeon HD 4870 to an ATI Radeon HD 5870 2gigs a few years ago, and weirdly a Nvidia Quadro 4000 too, it was working properly for these years, but now last week the screen went black, I knew it was the graphic card I removed the ATI one and it worked fine, with the quadro card, but I kinda want to know if its the card itself or maybe PSU is slowly dying like, I had to remove the dvd reader to save power for the card weirdly now if I go back to the factory set up, it won't turn on when connected the disk reader, so I left the reader unplugged... As I was saying, I wan't to test the card, is there any way that card can be plugged to a windows and work with it? I have an old windows, to test it, but I'm not sure it will fit or work fine or maybe damage the pc. Anyone knows if it will be fine? Does anyone here had a setup weirdly as me? Mac won't start (and it even fooled technical service) Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:34 PM PST My MacBook Air (2013 model) has died more times than Yamcha from DB in the last two months, all in a similar fashion, and no one seems to solve it: 1 - So a few days after Mojave was installed in my Mac decided to just turn off. I tried to start it and after loading and logging in, 5 seconds and dead again. Then it wouldn't even start. Not a sound. Dead, like a fancy box. After many calls to Apple service I did a power cycle (SMC restart) and reserved the PRAM. It worked and so my issue was solved. 2 - Except it was not. After like two days it died again overnight. I tried to turn it on but again not a sound. After more calls to Apple tech service I book a meeting at the Genius Bar for next week. Meanwhile I leave it on charging. After 3 days it pulls out a Jesus Christ and after I press start (I did that like few times every day for random hope) it turns on. Anyway I go next week to genius bar. They run a HW test and responds perfectly. 3 - Until a week after decided to kick the bucket again. Same case. Not a sound, not a single shiny pixel. This time it does not fool the Apple tech guy and just stays dead when I bring it. They take it away for 2 weeks and after running a test apparently seems to be okay but further exploration they decide to replace the IPD cable for a new one as it looked kinda screwed. And then I receive it back to the store, with a repprt that says it works, and it works. 4 - And guess who died again? After just receiving it from the store I start it full of hope, thinking it is all safe and sound, and after loading and logging in, 10 seoncds, pops and dies. I turn it on. Starts loading, 5 seconds, pops and dies. Starts again, 1 second, pops and dies. And now again does not even bother loading. Dead as hell once again. Any kind of recommendation? For real. I still have like 6 months of AppeCare which covers HW damage (laptop is 2 and a half years old). [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:34 PM PST Got a used MacBook pro 2015. Got Mojave installed and when I enter iCloud password it logs me in everywhere (mail, facetime, app store etc) but doesn't show iCloud menu. It just prompts for another password again without any errors. I've signed out of everything and restarted multiple times and still got this issue. What can I do? [link] [comments]
News.app: Is there a way to get non-English news? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:40 AM PST I live in Mexico yet I can't find a single non-American / non-English site to subscribe to in the app. For example, BBC is available, but not BBC Mundo. Telemundo is available, but only their English reporting division. I'm a developer and have even looked into adding my own Latin American news parsers or whatever necessary to add custom sites, but I couldn't figure out a way to do that, either. Is News.app only for English-coverage of American news or am I missing something? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:03 PM PST hey newbie question here which i found a few sources and 1 says go into terminal to clear out some temp path under /var .... question is in Windows you can clear out obsolete files by going %temp% then delete all. is there something similar in mac where I can clear our temp files? Technical explanation of why PDF text is blurry in Preview? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:37 AM PST If you open a PDF in Preview, the text is very blurry as compared to Acrobat. I've searched a number of threads on this and it seems it started happening with Sierra or High Sierra. Apparently there used to be an option to disable smoothing, however that option is now gone. Does anyone know what changed in macOS/Preview that causes the text to be blurry? How would anyone at Apple even sign-off on that? Don't employees at Apple work on Macs and likely use native apps? Wouldn't this annoy the very people that coded it? Among a lot of other things Apple does, this is particularly confusing. [link] [comments]
