2018 MBA vs 2017 MBA 720p camera comparison

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:53 PM PST

    Comparison here.

I took these two photos in my kitchen, one minute apart using the Photo Booth app on both laptops. Screen brightness was set to 50% with the only other light source being the under cabinet lighting. I do not believe that the 2018 Macbook Air has a built-in HD camera. It appears like they are using a 480p sensor and upscaling the image resolution in order to be able to advertise it as an HD camera. The 2017 Macbook Air's camera has not been updated since 2013 and exposes the image much better with far less noise. For the camera in the 2018 Macbook Air to not only be worse than it was 5 years ago, but directly comparable to a Logitech webcam from 2001, is insane. I really hope Apple addresses this.

I am another brand new 2018 MBP owner with the BridgeOS kernel panic issue...

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:40 PM PST

My dearly loved 2011 MBP 17" 2.4 16GB/1TB finally had a video card failure and I've got law school finals this week! My last one is on Monday. I've been using my husband's Mac Mini in our office in the interim, but on Monday I need a working laptop to take a 6-hour long exam. My Dad gave me this new 2018 2.6 GHz MBP 15" 16GB/512GB and it arrived today.

No sooner did I set up my iCloud and email addresses, download Dropbox, Adobe Creative cloud/PP/LR, and Microsoft word... I begin to study and randomly it has a KP and shuts off! Wtf!

It keeps doing it so many times, probably 50 so far. Same "bridgeos 3.1 16P1065" "210" issue everyone else seems to have.

I'm going to have to lug my 10 month old baby to the Apple store tomorrow (when I should be studying) to see if they'll replace the machine.

Has anyone had luck with getting a replacement and it doesn't KP?

I know there's a 111 page MacRumors forum about this issue still being commented on today.

For Spotify it's 30 seconds, what about Apple Music. I've googled it myself and found different answers, some say all of it, some say the first 20 seconds and others the last 10 seconds. Thanks!

    iPhone Xs lag while scrolling

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:52 PM PST

So I just switched over from android to iOS to see how the experience is like. Got an iPhone X's and it's alright, definitely not worth 1000+ tho (iPhone keyboard autocorrects Xs to X's .... why?). I can live with the phone tho but ever since I got it I noticed this weird lag/stutter when I'm scrolling on apps like YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, etc. Anybody else experiencing this? Super annoying

    iPad Notes/Doodling App for Work

    Posted: 01 Dec 2018 12:46 AM PST

    I'm looking for a notes/doodling iPad App to improve my workflow at the office. Typically, how I currently work is that I would meet with various members of my team, doodle some notes or diagrams explaining some processes, rip the sheet off the notebook and give it to them. Obviously this process can be better achieved on the iPad and can be shared directly to their slack channel or private message (which would also serve as a history of our plans). So I'm looking a great note taking app for an iPad! Additionally one that as follows would be amazing;

    • Ideally I would be able to do everything on 1 sheet of canvas, i.e. the canvas is 'infinitely' large and just pinch in and out to different areas to add notes.
    • Once I export that sheet/note it'll create it as a PDF and fit it to the bounds of the canvas I used.

Thank you for all your help!

    Apple Pay and customer tracking

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:39 AM PST

Quite a number of retailers use credit cards for customer tracking purposes to build customer loyalty through highly relevant advertising.

How would a retailer go about this with customers who use Apple Pay? Apple Pay doesn't disclose the true credit card number, so how would a retailer identify an Apple Pay customer?
