Not sure if anyone else does this, but thought I'd share this handy feature I use from time to time.

Example: I had come out of the shower and needed to shave; had run out of shaving cream but knew we had more in another closet in the house. Was dripping wet and didn't want to trudge downstairs, so I recorded a video on my iPhone requesting my kid to bring it up and then played it back via Airplay to our AppleTV. Shaving cream delivered in less than 30 seconds.

Also great for making a "Stop watching TV and go do your homework" message right to the TV.

Would be interested to see if other people had similar uses.

LG C8 OLED TV - Apple TV 4K - Dolby Vision mode seems dull?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:48 PM PST

So I just got a 65" LG C8. Pumped to set it up.

Got my Apple TV 4K hooked up to it - but when I choose 4K Dolby Vision mode, everything looks kind of washed out compared to 4K HDR mode.

Am I doing something wrong? Pretty sure my cables are 4K cables. I thought Dolby Vision was supposed to look better, but even the Apple TV 4K home page seems more....gray/dull when I set it to Dolby Vision mode.

I have not changed any TV settings from the time I set it up, so it's on whatever it came with.

Am I supposed to be changing settings if I want to run things on Dolby Vision?

What can an Apple TV 4K do that a 4K tv with built in fire tv can’t do?

I got my girlfriend an ATV 4K for her birthday and I was just wondering what the ATV can do that her 4K fire tv can't do?

    Anything in imax?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 01:26 PM PST

So I've just finished watching MI:Fallout on my ATV 4K and the helicopter scenes are just insanely sharp, and all in imax ratio. Just wondered what else is out there that can compare?

    Remote problem

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:05 PM PST

I downgraded my AppleTV to 10.2.2 to regain features lost in TVOS12. Now my remote doesn't work but it used to work when the AppleTV was originally running 10.2.2. I tried holding menu and volume up and placing the remote on top of the AppleTV with no luck. So I assumed the pairing process was failing BUT when I hold menu and play down the AppleTV restarts so I know there is some kind of communication going on there. Any idea how I can fix this short to moving back to TVOS12?

People with kids, do you create a separate iTunes account just for the TV?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:53 AM PST

I've started to wonder if creating a separate iTunes account for the family as a whole would be better. Mainly so that photos and music libraries can be restricted just to those we would want to share on the TV.

While I do that have any sort of photos in my photo library that I absolutely wouldn't want anyone to see, it seems strange that a babysitter, for instance, could look through the 20 years of photos I have in the library.

And for music, while I like having my playlists available on the TV, I don't like having all of the kids music on my iPhone! My iTunes recommendations are full of things like "baby shark"...

Does anyone create just an iTunes account that is just for their Apple TV to deal with these types of issues? I couldn't find much about people doing this, but it seems odd that the Apple TV is tied so much to a single individual in the family.

Need tips to connect Apple TV with Google Home

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:37 AM PST

I'm living in Apple ecosystem except Homepod, but I just received google home mini as gift. Is there anyone knows how to do simple task by using google home mini to control Apple TV? (turn on/off TV, volume up/down)

I heard that I need 'Harmony hub' in order to connect google home with Apple TV. But, if there is any better solution, happy to get advice/suggestion.

    Thanks!

Is there any way yet to airplay videos in 4K?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:31 AM PST

My goal is to be able to airplay videos from my iPhone X in 4K to my tv. I can do it with the Samsung app but that app sucks. I can airplay videos but they definitely aren't in 4K. I searched and it seems that this was previously an issue.

Is here any way around it?

    Thanks.
