Posted: 28 Dec 2018 06:47 PM PST I took my iPhone 7 into the Apple Store to take advantage of the $30 battery replacement. I came back after 2 hours to pick up my phone, and they said it had "liquid damage" inside so they hadn't replaced the battery. I told them that was ridiculous, as I had had the phone in my vicinity ever since I bought it new a year and a half ago from Verizon, and it had not even been near any sort of water or any other liquid. On top of that, when they returned my phone, the home button and 3D touch did not work. The power button on the side was only intermittently responsive. These all worked perfectly before I had given it to them not 2 hours ago; everything had worked perfectly, besides the 88% battery health. I requested that they fix it. They said that the only option for me was to spend $350 for a replacement. I told them the phone's home button had malfunctioned while the phone was in their custody, and they told me there was nothing they could do. I spoke to two managers and they both refused to remedy the issue. They said since there was liquid damage inside the phone (how??), even if it worked perfectly, they had simply opened up the phone, taken a look at it, and then promptly closed it up without doing anything. Since they hadn't done anything, they said, it wasn't their responsibility. I read online that the home button and 3D touch malfunction is due to a damaged backlight flex cable. Is this something that can be snapped simply from them opening up the phone carelessly? What should I do? I'm fuming. EDIT: Just tried my front camera and that isn't working anymore either. What the hell did they do to my phone? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2018 08:37 PM PST I've seen others have this problem with the Tapufind Safari extension. It keeps installing itself without me knowing and causes a popup in Safari that reads "This update requires an action" and if you do not tick the box within 60 seconds it closes Safari automatically. I have tried to delete it but it keeps coming back. So far what I've done several times is the following (this is advice I found on other forums online): Macintosh HD > Users > Shared Deleted all the suspicious files there that seem to be what installed or is installing Tapufind extension. Searched "Tapufind" in Finder and deleted any relevant files. Emptied trash. Restarted my computer. Then I open Safari again (just browsing YouTube) and yet again, the popup is back, Tapufind extension is back, along with all the suspicious files in my Shared folder. Have attached some screenshots in the link below to help show what I'm talking about. (I'm new to being a reddit poster so apologies, could only add Imgur link, couldn't add an image to a post). Last time I tried to screenshot the Safari popup as mentioned, it closed automatically before I got the chance, but can try next time if it returns. Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/aTTuOaL In the first screenshot in link above, I deleted all the files that are not covered in yellow. [link] [comments] |
Backlit Keyboard Sensor overly sensitive Posted: 28 Dec 2018 10:45 PM PST 2006 MacBook Pro 15", seems that when my hand glides over the middle section the keyboard backlight starts flucuating as if the sensor is overly sensitive. Strange thing is I thought the sensor was located under the speaker grills. [link] [comments] |
Can't delete old steam game files Posted: 28 Dec 2018 04:44 PM PST So i'm trying to free up space on my MacBook but I can't delete these files in any way or even find them through finder. I don't have steam installed or any of the folders for it still so I can't find these files at all. Any help? [link] [comments] |
What happens if you try to send a payment via ApplePay and the card linked in iWallet was cancelled? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 06:05 PM PST So I needed to send my mom some quick money just now and noticed the option to text it to her via Apple Pay. I probably rushed into that wayyyy too quick before knowing full well how it worked, but I did anyway (yes yes, slap my wrist later). Thing is, the only card linked to my iWallet is a card I no longer use-- it's expired/cancelled for about 2 months. After realizing that, I deleted the card from iWallet and put in the info for my new card, but I'm not sure what'll happen in regards to the payment I already sent her. Will it automatically detect my new card and draw from there? or just straight decline? [link] [comments] |
Incomplete iTunes sync to iPhone 8 Posted: 28 Dec 2018 05:44 PM PST All software up to date. I have ~6k song in my iTunes library. All .mp3 or .alac encoded by iTunes and playable in iTunes on my PC. When syncing my iPhone 8 (set to sync the entire library), various individual tracks and entire albums are greyed out on my phone and unplayable (>100 GB free on the iPhone after sync). Re-syncing periodically changes what songs successfully sync and which are greyed out. I have repeatedly run sync and simply cannot get all songs to successfully sync to my iPhone at the same time. Flickering pixels at the top of a maximized Firefox window Posted: 28 Dec 2018 08:02 PM PST I have great hope that the many Mac experts in this sub can help me with a problem that's puzzled me for weeks now. My ProblemPeriodically, I see a few pixels "flickering" bright colors at the top of my Firefox window. Firefox is not in full-screen mode, but instead "maximized" to take up the entire screen without hiding the menu bar. The menu bar touches the top of the Firefox window, and the flickering happens exactly at that junction. I know this might not be a helpful description, but unfortunately, I can't capture the flickering in a screenshot. The colored pixels disappear as soon as I activate either the system screenshot tool or SnagIt, and it's so small that a photo if my Mac's screen doesn't show the problem. If I move the Firefox window away from the menu bar, the flickering does not happen. It is only when the menu bar and the top of the window touch, and only in Firefox. These pixels are not always in the same location. I can't identify anything that causes the flickering to happen or not happen, nor can I spot a location where it's more present. Typically, the flickering occurs for a second or two, then vanishes. But sometimes, the colored pixels will "stick" in a certain location and color, but that also seems to happen randomly. Relevant FactsHere are some additional facts that I think might be relevant.
My RequestI'd like to find out if anyone else is experiencing this problem. It's not a major issue for me, but if I can fix it, I'd like to. Has anyone experienced this problem, or even found a solution? I appreciate whatever help or info you can provide! Posted: 28 Dec 2018 07:07 PM PST Hey quick question. I'm going in for a new battery tomorrow. Do I need to wipe my phone and unlock it? Will they ask me to unlock it? My computer drive isn't big enough to store the backup so I'm trying to figure out what to do since going through my stuff to delete all my nudes is a hassle Edit: battery replacement * [link] [comments] |
What OS to put on iMac (Mid 2009) that previously had SMART failure Posted: 28 Dec 2018 12:57 PM PST Hello. My iMac (mid 2009) experienced SMART failure due to failing reallocated sectors count. I just ordered a replacement HDD. What OS should I use? I have the CD for Snow Leopard 10.6. Can I use something newer? Or even use windows or linux? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

iPhone 7 says connected to wi-fi with 2-3 bars, but nothing loads Posted: 28 Dec 2018 05:57 PM PST Hi, I'm out of the country but need to get some things done in the evenings. I don't have data as I don't have a plan for this country. For a couple of days my iPhone 7 connected to the wi-fi just fine. I entered the password once and got strong signal for two days. Then, I set my phone down and left for half an hour and upon returning the wi-fi will simply not load anything. I still have a 2-3 bar connection, but nothing works. Can't send iMessages, use apps, or view websites. Everyone else on the wi-fi has noticed no difference and it's just my phone. Family's phones, laptops, iPads all work. I've tried everything I can find online short of factory resets. I've
None of these things made any change. I'm at a hotel so anything involving the router itself and changing IP etc. won't work because I have no access to it. I'm thinking if it's working for everyone else it must be a problem with my phone. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? PS I'm in a remote area so there's no other wifi I can connect to to test if the connection will work on other networks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2018 02:25 AM PST They deactivated their iMessage account with this link https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/ which seems to have worked for other people to text them but not myself. When I go to send them a message from my iPhone X it sends as an iMessage but doesn't deliver, also typing their number in will go blue indicating that it's registered. But when I do the same on my Macbook it comes up as green and sends as a text. I think for some reason my iPhone doesn't have an updated iMessage register lookup? Maybed it's cached somewhere? I tried signing in/out of iMessage, iCloud, deleting all chats with that person, deleting their contact and turning the device on and off. Any ideas? It's a bit frustrating having to hold the message bubble and "send as text message" everytime [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2018 04:13 PM PST I have the 13inch 2017 Touchbar Macbook Pro. I keep getting the iCloud Storage is full message and it is annoying. I do this in terminal for a temporary solution. #! /bin/sh I would like a permanent solution. [link] [comments] |
Advantages/disadvantages of using a sparse disk image vs sparse bundle disk image on NAS? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 11:32 AM PST I would like to move my iMovie library onto my NAS to free up disk space on my laptop. Mac doesn't like using the library directly off the NAS due to a file system issue, so I've read that you can put the library onto a disk image on the NAS as a workaround. Wondering whether it would make a difference to use the "sparse disk image" versus the "sparse bundle disk image" for this purpose. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Can't boot from external USB drive (drive not recognized at boot) Posted: 28 Dec 2018 03:06 PM PST Machine: MacMini 2014 base OS: MacOS 10.14.2 Mojave New drive: Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" SSD, connected via USB 3 cable Goal: Switch from painfully slow 5400rpm drive, to USB 3.0 external SSD as primary drive.
Then I went to Preferences/Startup Disk. It showed the SSD as a selectable, bootable drive, with a small 10.14.2 text underneath. However when I selected the SSD as main boot drive, the computer still boots directly to the HDD I manually rebooted the computer holding down CONTROL --> the only drive visible here is the HDD.
Now in the Preferences/Startup Disk, the SSD is not visible as an option. Holding CONTROL during boot, also does not show the SSD as a bootable option. The content of SSD at this point -- following "installation of macos" through recovery mode -- is /macOS Install Data/ with 5GB worth of InstallESDDmg.pkg [link] [comments] |
“Sent with Echo” shows text sideways Posted: 28 Dec 2018 08:56 AM PST I tried asking on the main r/Apple and got downvoted, with people trying to tell me that the bug actually looks beautiful. Anyways, I have attached an image showing the problem. This happened on my new iPad Pro 11in. It's only showing on my side, meaning the sent with echo message is normal on the other person's end. Is there anyone here who has this problem or knows how to fix it? I will greatly appreciate your assistance. [link] [comments] |
Cannot create disk image: input/output error Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:37 PM PST How can I get around this to backup files? Google isn't helping at all. I've tried repairing the disk (this has never worked on any computer I've ever had, mac or windows), I've tried everything. Disk is apparantly corrupt according to diagnostics, but I need files off of it. The files are obviously still on the HD (because stuff doesn't magically vanish off of HDs) I just want a way to see the files on the HD so I can get them onto an external, but there is no way to do that I'm running out of options because I'm completely computer illiterate, but need these files so what do I do? What good is the advice of "always have backups" if my computer won't actually let me make backups? Someone in another thread suggested actually removing the HD and hooking it up (via USB/SATA cable) to another computer and getting files off that way, but is there even any point? Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:36 PM PST What should I do? It's a brand new iPad Pro 9.7, I have the newest iTunes, and I did all possible resets and hard resets and whatnot - everytime I get that screen saying "iPad is disabled, connect to iTunes" (without that picture of a lightning cable, tho). Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Automatic switch between lines for messages (ESIM help) Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:34 PM PST Is there anyway to change which line an existing message string uses in messages? I have an esim with AT&T and physical sim with Verizon. I want to use AT&T as the iMessage for most conversations and have it set that way in my settings. But sometimes I've noticed messages just automatically changes a message string to the business line when I was using personal. Is there a way to manually change it back? Or just hope it auto switches back to the personal line? Pic attached of how it shows up in messages when it switches. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2018 09:08 AM PST Is there a way to have a hard download on my desktop and the iCloud back up as an actually backup instead of it existing only on the iCloud? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Apple ID compromised and charged Posted: 28 Dec 2018 12:13 PM PST So my sister's Apple ID was definitely hacked(not a phishing email, card charged and it's in the purchase history) and charged ~110$ for some crappy microtransaction in a Chinese app. Her account is locked and I'm trying to request a refund but as far as I understand there's no way to unblock her account or do anything without calling live support, which is next available Monday(as far as I understand). Why was it even blocked in the first place? Lastly I just want to say I'm not an iOS user myself, but I'm very infuriated about the fact you are allowed to charge large amounts of money from the other side of the planet on a freshly added device on an account that's linked with your phone number and name and all that stuff. How is this considered secure in 2018? Also forcing me to use iTunes(which is a piece of garbage to be honest) to navigate to a link and circling me around the same support pages(like after trying to request a refund I get a message saying "account is blocked" with a link to a bare iTunes page? What the fuck?)... I barely had to do anything with Apple before but to say the least I'm not pleased. Yeah, you might say "don't get hacked", but surely these things have to be more secure other than knowing the login. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Dec 2018 05:16 AM PST Hey everyone! I have a late 2015 21.5 inch iMac Processor : Intel I5 Memory : 8GB Graphics : Intel HD 6000 Also it has the base 1TB SATA Disk hard-drive For the last 6 months it has been totally unusable... the boot time is around 3 minutes 40 and takes at least 10 minutes for the iMac to get everything going. I'm getting constant beach balls and have no idea why? I have over 657 GB available I have been lead to believe it's slow due to the super bad hard-drive? Any upgrades / suggestion would be greatly appreciated? [link] [comments] |
