    Student regretting 2017 MBP purchase.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 08:35 PM PST

Sharing some recent keyboard and repair issues I ran into with my MBP. Wish this message was spelled out for me before I bought my 2017 MBP. I would have opted for a different laptop.

I'm currently a full time grad student and using the 2017 15in MBP. My keyboard has failed twice so far (sticky keys, unresponsive keys, etc) and each time it has taken 2 weeks+ for the repair to be completed (Several classmates also have run into similar issues with their 13inch 2018 MBP and similar repair times).

Recently dropped my MBP off for the third repair and will not have a laptop for another 2 weeks. The store manager at the Apple store confirmed that once you're outside the 14 day return window, there's nothing they can do in store. You're stuck sending the MBP out for repair and being without a machine for a min of 2 weeks.

Edit: spelling and grammar. Posted via iOS.

2012/13 Macbook Pro won't turn on after battery died.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 10:37 PM PST

So yea I went to my parents over Christmas and brought my laptop only to realize I forgot my charger. My Macbook died and battery was dead for almost a week. Now that I'm home it won't turn on at all. I realize sometime you have to charge it for a while after battery being at absolute zero but it's been on charge for 2+ hours now and nothing. Any tips?

Just purchased the new 2018 MBA, and looking for some help

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 06:23 PM PST

This is my second MB, but the first one in 9-10 years, and I haven't really dabbled in anything beyond simple schoolwork tasks and whatnot in my student days. Now, I bought the MBA for the house computer. I know it's not the most powerful computer out there, but I'm just wondering about some apps that I can use for some light photo editing and hopefully light coding programming (hoping to learn). I know a quick Google search could tell me the answers, but I was hoping for some community input.

So yeah, any essentials I should use? Or apply?

    2013 vs 2018 MBA?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:21 PM PST

I am trying to figure out whether a 2018 MBA will be significantly faster than my 2013 MBA.

    My 2013 is a 1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 with 8gb of ram. The 2018s have a 1.6GHz Dual-Core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor with 8gb of ram.

Unfortunately, that means nothing to me in terms of whether it would actually be snappier. Because on the surface the numbers don't look that different.

Can anyone speak to this for me?

    Thanks.

Can you convince me to stay with apple?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 08:37 PM PST

Going to get a new laptop soon, and having a really hard time trying to justify buying a macbook. I currently have a old macbook air, and I think it's great, but need a new one. However, I'm not sure I trust macbooks anymore after hearing about all the issues related with the keyboard

I love the macOS, but I don't want to deal with keyboard issues 1 month in or 1 year in. I hear the 2018 keyboard "fix" didn't really do anything.

I am seriously thinking about getting a refurbished or used MacBook Air since all I need is social network and watching YouTube and tv on it.

Since this would be my first ever Mac product and I have been reading mixed reviews, just need advice on which models to stay away from and the ones I should be looking at?

    Always show tool bar?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 01:06 PM PST

Is there an option to always show the tool bar when I enter full screen? So I don't have to move my cursor all the way to the top of the screen for it to show? I'm on Mojave on a 2018 MacBook Air 13"

How much would my MacBook Pro 2012 be worth with these specs - I'm looking to upgrade.

So I currently have this old boy - https://imgur.com/a/y1bvByv

It's in pretty good physical condition. Want to get the new one and sell this one but anyone got ideas on how much to put it up for?

Mid 2010 MacBook Ram Upgrade Worth?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 11:10 AM PST

I just bought one on eBay for 100 dollars. The build quality seems really nice to me, even though it is 8 years old. I noticed it was slow, and could not watch 60 fps videos on YouTube without stuttering. Do you think 16 gb of ram would fix those issues? Here are the specs

    Edit: it's running Sierra

MacBook Pro w/ touchbar or MacBook Air Touch ID 1.6GHz Dual-Core?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 10:50 AM PST

I might get majority answers saying the pro but I'm a student and some people as well as apple workers have been saying the pro is more for graphic designers and people who need to do "hardcore" work. Which laptop would you reasonably recommend for a student (Microsoft word, notes, study...) mostly watch YouTube videos and surf the web. But also I like to run a lot of apps like Spotify, google chrome, and have some indie games (light)

Early 2015 13" MBP capable of running iPad Pro 12.9" as external Monitor via Duet?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 09:57 AM PST

I wonder if the integrated graphics on this MBP might be able to push the iPad Pro 12.9" as an external monitor. I won't be doing any graphically intensive, but laggy UI does bother me.

    Tacky Charging Cable USB-C

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 02:05 AM PST

So wierd question, I've got a MB Pro and had it about a year now, when I was carrying it once around the office I had the power cable coiled up and held against the top of the chassis.

When I set everything down on the table it had left a smudge/mark on the chassis.

Firstly, is this kind of normal for the USB C cable. It feels tacky and wierd compared to other cables

Also, before it possibly fuck up the aluminium, any advice on a cleaner for it other than just a damp lint free cloth which was my first thought
