Why do we have to enter in our password half of the time with Touch ID? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 01:33 PM PST Is it just me or does it kind of defeat the purpose of Touch ID when half the time the OS is asking for the password? I can understand on bootup that it requires it. But I really don't understand why it can't be used exclusively until the next reboot. [link] [comments]
MacOS Mojave - Safari Working Like Sh*t Posted: 15 Nov 2018 01:16 AM PST So I have a 2017 MacBook Pro, and I just recently upgraded to MacOS Mojave. I got my Mac in July of 2018, so it's quite new. Until now I've been using Chrome as my main browser. However, I've heard many times that Safari is better for Macs; so I decided to give it a try. Before upgrading, it was always just an average browser to me, never seemed good/bad. However, after the upgrade it barely even works. - Upon starting it, it takes like 15-20 seconds for it to be usable (stays frozen for that long) - For sites like YouTube, when I try putting things in the search bar, it lags extremely badly and goes to the spinning colorful wheel. When I try fullscreening a video, it freezes halfway through the animation with no sound, but the video continues to play (I can't see it playing, but when it finally fullscreens, it's 5-10 seconds ahead of where it was when I fullscreened it) - Overall performance is just slow, clunky, and poor. Any tips to fix this? I've tried restarting the laptop, quitting and reopening safari, I just don't know what's wrong with it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:56 AM PST An example of my problem: Say I'm composing an email, and i'm switching between Word, Chrome and Outlook to bring a lot of content together. I'll typically have multiple word docs open and several emails from throughout the day. If while typing up a new email I want to go to chrome to get an image, my email will minimise as soon as I bring chrome to the foreground. I then click back onto outlook via the dock, but this just opens my inbox and the previous email I was writing is now hidden behind several other windows. Same with Word - if i have multiple documents open, clicking word on the dock won't bring me back to where i just was, but will instead randomly choose one of the open docsc Having come from Windows, this is really bugging me and seems unintuitive. Is it a simple case that MacOs is not really designed for multi-tasking programmes? Or am i doing something wrong? [link] [comments]
Updating from Yosemite to Mojave - what are the biggest changes I’m going to notice? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:44 PM PST This is on a mid-2013 MacBook Air. I noticed it when I went to connect my iPhone to iTunes in order to add some music to it and it said it couldn't be done until I upgraded my OS. I checked to see what I was running and couldn't believe I let it fall this far behind. This is 10.10 that was released in 2014. [link] [comments]
MacOS NTP reaching out to malicious sites. Posted: 14 Nov 2018 06:12 PM PST Hello All, We have a handful of macs reaching out to malicious servers using the ntpd process, UDP/123. Any ideas on what may be going on here? I went to the ntp.confs as well as the restricts etc... i don't see anything there. The ntp.conf is set to go to time.apple.com and that's it. Something is rather odd here... looking for some help. TIA! [link] [comments]
Is it possible to re-install Mac OS? Posted: 15 Nov 2018 01:11 AM PST I have a Mac that was given to me by my old employer, that has their OS on it. I was told I could keep the laptop as a gift for my 3 years with the company. The issue is it still has the OS from my old company on it. I have all the passwords for everything and all the admin login credentials, and I did a "factory reset" on it, but that just erased all the old files and stuff like that I had on here. Just wondering if there was anyway to get rid of this old OS from my company. [link] [comments]
Anyone else having bad lagging issues? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 05:22 PM PST Brand new 2018 MBP (~2 months old) Just updated to 10.14.1 today and my machine is, and has been, very laggy today. Wondering if anyone else was having similar issues. Tried a restart and still happening. Not working on anything memory intensive so I am not sure what's up... Thanks [link] [comments]

Good MacPro 3,1 specific Mojave install guide? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:04 AM PST Where is the best collection of detailed guides, warnings, issues, pitfalls advice and recommendations specifically for a MP3,1 ? Hopefully targeting people coming from High Sierra that works wonderfully. Also really want to understand the issues with the font blur, and if I can do anything about Metal support in terms of a graphics card. Has the font blurring been handled by the community completely? Can I get a specific graphics card for the MP3,1 that will support Metal fully? Is that even required for "proper" operation? I seem to get a noticeably high system load just scrolling on safari, so my assumption is I need to address that issue? And TBH I don't understand it, or what I should be targeting to get my head around the solution. I do a lot of CAD work, so while I am not looking for any gaming, I would like to help the CAD if possible and reduce load on the actual machine offloading tasks to the graphics card better if possible. I have little snitch, so I was told to update first, that will only apply to a "update"? Not to a full clean install? How does a Time Machine backup restore factor into that equation? Same as a updated OS? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 01:15 PM PST The macOs Mail client keeps popping up (maximising). I use the default Mail client from macOS and have it closed, but still running. For the past year or more it's been popping up and annoying the living hell out of me. Sometimes , it will even split screen other apps sometimes which is weird. Need ideas :( [link] [comments]
How to enable full functionality of ad-block plug-ins in Safari (no YouTube ads etc.) Posted: 14 Nov 2018 07:10 AM PST There are a couple of threads complaining about ad-blockers not working at all and I had the same problem. I had a long fight with dozens of ad-blockers and every single one failed. I have tried every blocker out there and I have always seen ads in YouTube. Today I have found a simple solution and I hope it will help you. Safari > Preferences > Websites > Content Blocker > Activate it on every site in the list. Safari > Preferences > Websites > Pop-up windows > Block it on every site in the list (except where you want to get pop-up windows). It was deactivated by default and I haven't noticed it for a long time. Now, in combination with my blocker (I use the plugin simply called "AdBlock for Safari". It's free in the app store.) I don't see YouTube ads anymore. Also make sure you disable "Allow some harmless content" in the plugin. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 07:58 AM PST I tend to use my macbook on the train to work, and connect it to the internet by tethering to my android phone. I do this by making a hotspot. my macbook recognises this hotspot as it does any other wifi network, but that does mean that it works the same as it does on any of the unlimited wifi networks I connect to—google drive will start syncing in the background, spotify will download some new music I've saved, et cetera. this can have a serious impact on my data bill. I tend to pause these apps manually as a precaution or quit them entirely, but that's becoming a bit of a hassle. are there any built-in features or apps (that don't break the bank) which would allow me to block only these few applications from accessing this one specific network (aka my tethered data connection)? High Sierra update failure + Mojave install failure Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:48 AM PST mid-2012 MBP with OWC 120GB SSD/8GB RAM; running 10.13.3I've been having this problem since January when the 10.13.4 update became available. I downloaded the update as usual and restarted the machine to complete the installation. That initiated a restart loop - it was trying to boot from the installer. I was never able to remedy it, and every time I boot I have to hold option and select the startup drive. Oddly, when I access System Preferences, it indicates that the SSD is the startup drive. What I've tried:
I'm at my wits end with this. Do you have any sense of what could remedy this? Thanks in advance for any help!! [link] [comments]
2015 Macbook Air still worth buying? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 01:58 PM PST So for a while now I've wanted to buy a mac laptop, not for any special use just for internet browsing, Apple Music and blog writing. I have an iMac which is currently in daily use, however I'd like something that I can carry around with me and use as a secondary device. I'm well into the Apple eco-system now, so I must admit I'm really not keen on buying a Windows laptop. I don't really feel like I can justify paying £1100 for a new Macbook air, but I've noticed a few of the 2015 models are available to buy new on eBay for half the price. Just really looking for some advice on this, is it silly buying 3 year old tech or will they be able to do most things that the new model does? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:16 AM PST I dont know if this is the right sub to ask this but any help is appreciated! So basically I replaced an older macbook non retina with an ssd because the hdd failed And my plan was to just use the internet recovery to get a clean install, but I cant get to startup manager. When I press power then option key there is a mouse and white boot screen but no disks and no wifi connection option. How can I fix this? [link] [comments]
