Photographer + deciding on laptop Posted: 14 Nov 2018 02:53 PM PST I do not want to use a desktop anymore and I will need a constant portable setup. I have made a post on the Dell side of reddit to gauge opinions on the XPS 15. Now I'd like to come here and find out the best macbook for my uses and why you would choose it over the competitors. Uses: AdobeRGB editing with a sony a7riii camera using uncompressed RAW files. Light video editing I'm a big fan of power and have been a PC guy my whole life, but this will not be used for gaming. But I do want the BEST for my needs. I'd love to hear your thoughts [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:11 AM PST Hey everyone, I need to get a MacBook for work. I mostly use my iMac and home and at work but I'll be traveling more so need one for on the go. I don't need a top of the line MacBook but something that will last spec wise for at least two years or so. I've been looking at some on eBay and needed so advice from current MacBook users on which is the better options. I've seen some of the 2015 MacBook pros going from 600-700 with tb hard drives and 16gb ram. But I have also seen the 2017s around this price if not slightly higher. Is there any difference between the two? Why is the 2017 model so cheap. Is it worth buying an almost 4 year old laptop even with upgraded specs? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 12:25 PM PST I just bought a 2018 Macbook Pro (i5 touchbar) for my wife. It is replacing a 2013 Macbook Air which was still working great. She was looking forward to faster CPU and much better screen resolution. It definitely delivers on that (although I am NOT a fan of the touch bar but that is another issue). The problem we are running into is that the laptop runs hot. I waited a couple of days until all the background indexing was complete. She mostly uses the laptop for browsing and Office and usually has it in her lap as opposed to on a desk. Just doing those simple tasks causes the bottom of the laptop to get hot. Much warmer than her old Air every got. I would understand if she was pushing it but this is light usage. Eventually the wrist rests and keyboard even gets warm. I tracked the temps and they seem to hover between 40c and 43c. That seems reasonable. I also checked Activity Monitor and there was no runaway process. Does anyone else have the same problem? I do see people talking about it online but I wasn't sure if it would be classified as "normal". I was on the fence whether to get her the new 2018 Air or the Pro. The Air is powerful enough for her purposes and has the upgraded screen. I just assumed the Pro would be more future proof. My question is for people that have the new Air. Do you see the same heat-related issues? If the Air runs cooler I think we are going to return the Pro and switch to the Air. [link] [comments]
Any recommended way to sync fast between two MacBooks? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 05:34 PM PST I currently use Google Drive to sync between 2 MacBooks. It takes a long time though for it to sync whenever I restart my device. Is there a program to sync between MacBooks? They are in the same wifi network. [link] [comments]

Battery performance with new Vega graphics options for Macbook Pro 15 Posted: 14 Nov 2018 09:39 AM PST Anyone? A reserch-driven clue? Those Vega graphics surely do have some battery drain info available and I am wondering. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Nov 2018 01:03 PM PST I tried using an iPad Pro for college but, it's still too limited, it didn't work out. My 13" air from 2015 has become heavy as I am now carrying some more stuff, plus, that screen is just depressing. I was planning on buying myself a 2017 12" MacBook but the new Air has touch ID and I was wondering: should I wait and see if they update the 12 inch with touch ID as well? or should I just go ahead and order me a refurbished one for $1100 now? 2008 Aluminum MacBook Worth Upgrading with SSD and Battery? Posted: 14 Nov 2018 12:13 PM PST Its still basically working fine and has that nice aluminum body just too slow. Its a late 2008 Core 2 duo 2GB memory. Ive heard an SSD can make a big difference but not sure if this computer is too old for it to be worth it. Also the battery is completely dead, turns off immediately if not plugged in. [link] [comments]
Flickering screen on MacBook Pro 13' (2017) Posted: 14 Nov 2018 11:59 AM PST I bought this Macbook in January this year ... it's an amazing laptop, really smooth and fast with a superb screen but it's been flickering a tiny bit for a while now. It flickers when I turn it on, for a very short time but it's there and it does it every time. Has anyone experienced that problem ? Is there a way to fix this ? (I'm still on Sierra btw.)
