iPhoneX Got my X screen replaced today

Got my X screen replaced today

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:33 PM PST

I created a post asking about this weeks ago, and I've updated it, but I thought I'd also create another one detailing how it went.

I went in and got it done after humming and hawing for weeks. Basically, I went into a nearby Apple Store (Oakridge Vancouver CAN) and told them the following: - I've been seeing a small part of the screen be unresponsive once in a while - It comes and goes, probably once a week - I've done a re-install from a backup and it didn't help (hadn't as I wasn't experiencing issues anyways) - I've backed up my phone (did this sitting outside the store before it opened)

I asked them to check and do a diagnostic of the phone, which they did. They then mentioned to me there was a program in place to replace screens if there was an issue for the X (I didn't mention it; I wanted them to tell me about it), and they would let the diagnostic run to finish. While the diagnostic was finishing up, they took my serial number and checked against a list, and saw that it was on there amongst the rest (I'm assuming that the screen issue affects a batch of them and they know what serial numbers belong to the ones that are affected). Once the diagnostic was done, they immediately said they were going to replace the screen for free under the program (even though the diagnostics looked good). I noticed it was marked at $385 CAD (but zeroed our due to it being free) to get a new screen for the X, as it's listed on the agreement you have to digitally sign. An hour later it was done, and they ensured that the seal was replaced so the water proof rating was intact. As a note, if you have a screen protector, and it WAS purchased and installed by the Apple Store, and you can show the receipt, it will be replaced as well. Mine wasn't, but I had a spare at home. All in all, a good experience.

Interesting alternative to hold music in call

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:29 PM PST

If you hate hold music when waiting to speak to a representative. What I do is start the call and then open the music app or other audio app like Spotify or Sirius radio and start the audio. You will hear the call in the background but not have to listen to the same song on a loop.

From Iphone 5 to the X. Best way to start fresh?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:56 AM PST

Now that I finally can enjoy the iphone X and wave my loyal old pal, the iphone 5, goodbye I was wondering what's the best way to start as a new device and sync just my contacts, whatsapp messages, iMessages and notes?
I prefer starting fresh this time. Since the 5 runs on iOS 10.3.3 I think my options are pretty limited?

Import RAW photos from DSLR to iPhoneX

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 09:30 AM PST

I just got an iPad Pro and found it convenient to plug my camera directly to the iPad Pro (both devices have USB-C) and import my RAW photos.

It seems as if iOS 12 allows for better importing of RAW photos now. If I wanted to import photos from my camera to my iPhone X, would I need to get the SD to Lightning adapter in order to import RAW photos?

I can still hear out of speakers when phone is muted and volume is down

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 09:12 PM PST

I've had my iPhone X for close to a year now and have experienced zero issues. However, I noticed a few days ago that when I play a YouTube video or music with the volume turned all the way down, I can still hear the video or song if I hold the bottom speakers up to my ear. Is this normal or a bug in the phone? I do not recall this happening on my previous iPhone 6s.

To reproduce turn volume all the way down to mute. Flip the ringer switch off. Play a YouTube video. Hold speakers on the bottom of the phone to your ears.

Thanks for your feedback and stories!

Should I buy the iPhone X or XR?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:53 AM PST

I'm looking to upgrade my phone and don't know whether to get the iPhone X for £799 or iPhone XR for £749. But then again, I could get the 8 plus. Which one would you buy?

    Fast Charging Question

    Posted: 29 Nov 2018 10:27 PM PST

I just got a Aukey USB PD2.0 48W charger for my iPhone X but the charging speed don't seem to be very fast and I don't hear a double charging sound when plugged in.

Others are getting like 50% charge in 30 mins but mine is only like 30% charge in 30 mins. Is there something wrong like I might need to get a new cable?

Brightness is instantly changing to be dimmer on my display but still shows my brightness at full. Auto brightness is also turned off, is this a bug?
