Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:47 AM PST Hi guys. I am a samsung guy so I don't follow apple products closely. My daughter has an iphone 8. She asked for an apple watch for Christmas. She said it doesn't have to be the latest generation. Anyhow I looked on Amazon and there seems to be so many choices. Is the series 4 a lot better than series 3? She is college age if that makes a difference on advice. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:23 PM PST So, I am playing around with the calendar location field. If I enter calendar entry and add a location and then look at it in iCloud Web, the location field is in this format: LocationNameAddress, City, State, ZIP Code, Country. If I follow this convention and enter it in iCloud on the web, I get no map. So next I set up a Nextcloud calendar. Added a location and when I looked on the web interface of my Nextcloud server it showed me: Location Name Address, City, State, ZIP Code, Country So I create a new entry in NextCloud on the web and use that format. I then open the Nextcloud calendar on my computer and enter the address in this format and Apple Calendar does not show me a map. I don't have a Mac, so I can't use MacOS Calendar. Is there ANY way to enter location information and have Apple's calendar app read it properly on iOS? [link] [comments] |

message on lock screen for wrong password? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:44 PM PST Hey people, Got a weird one and want to know if it can be done. Years ago while on a job I had a fellow photographer access my laptop and get a heap of my clients details before sending them an email saying they'll beat my prices by 25%, I lost about 10 clients and only found out when one contacted me saying this person was dropping their prices by the day. Anyway, I know have my laptop require a password within 5 seconds and the screen saver comes up within a minute. "fuck off you cunt" Is there a way to do it? [link] [comments] |
How to selectively sync which files are stored only on iCloud Drive? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:42 PM PST So, I spent the last several hours tinkering with iCloud on my windows laptop. I wanted to upload some movies from my hard disk to iCloud to free up some space. As time went on, I came to know how severely lacking iCloud is, compared to other storage solutions like Dropbox, One Drive, Google Drive -
Now that I've finally got iCloud installed after an eternity, I find that there's no way to select which files I want on my iCloud Drive only, without it being synced to my PC also. So, the current situation is - all the movies that I uploaded to iCloud Drive are again being synced back to my laptop. RIGHT BACK TO SQUARE ONE. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:31 AM PST Music/sound was briefly playing on my iPhone while nothing that could make that music/sound was on or open, so I'm assuming it was an ad that was on an app that was open. But the ad itself didn't show up. Does that just happen sometimes, and if so why? An ad not showing up but the music from the ad itself playing? It sounded like one of those pop-up games. I'm just curious. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:55 PM PST It's a bit annoying that, at times, after I swipe up from the app I was using, its icon shows up on the top left of the Home screen for a split second. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:34 AM PST I am visiting the apple store for a battery replacement. I will back up my phone before I go, but do I need to erase all my pictures and personal files? If not, will they look through my pictures and files? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro Migration from Time Machine Seems Stuck Posted: 30 Nov 2018 07:56 PM PST Bought a new MBP today, connected my Time Machine using 2TB external through a USB adapter and hasn't progressed in 2 hours, stuck on Preparing Files to Transfer. Albeit, the external was completely full, is this normal? After an hour, I did cancel and tried to start over, but it started at exact same point with no further progression. Update: It took about 2.5 hours in the Prep Screen, another 2.5 hours for Scanning files and finally have a count down of "About 10 Hours", but I see it's all at a transfer rate of 8mb/s which seems very slow. If anyone wants to chime in, please feel free if that seems right or not. [link] [comments] |
2015 13" Macbook Pro drains 30-40% of battery when sleep over about 12 hours Posted: 30 Nov 2018 10:13 AM PST Very regularly I will charge my MBP to 100%, toss it in my bag, and not open it until the next day. Over about 12 hours, it will drain 30-40% even though the lid is closed and it is in sleep mode. Anyone else have this problem? Any thoughts on troubleshooting it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 03:06 PM PST I've been googling a lot, and can't tell if this will work or if it will cause issues because it's not paired or whatever. Any advice would be awesome! [link] [comments] |
Downloading iCloud Photos to iPhone Posted: 30 Nov 2018 11:03 AM PST I have 5 years worth of photos in iCloud and the settings in my phone have always been to upload photos to iCloud to save space. Less than half of my photos are actually downloaded onto my phone, how can I download the rest of the photos from my library to be physically in my iPhones storage. [link] [comments] |
iPhone XS stuck on restoring from backup Posted: 30 Nov 2018 06:14 PM PST I am currently attempting to set up a new iPhone XS, I have a backup on iTunes and am currently trying to restore from backup. It appeared to fully transfer the data ok but when the phone was rebooting it said "swipe up to upgrade" so I did and a progress bar appeared. It went along at a good speed for a while but now it stopped with a little remaining and has been there for 30 minutes, any ideas? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Pro with Mojave 10.14.1 loses External Drives after wake-up Posted: 30 Nov 2018 02:15 PM PST Current Configuration: MacOS Mojave V. 10.14.1 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch Mid 2015) Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 mHz DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Mac HD 256 GB SSD External G-Drive with Thunderbolt 2 - 4GB with a 525GB volume for Time Machine Back-ups Two users configured: Standard and Admin Very often in the morning when I wake up the MacBook Pro I'm presented not with my Admin User log on screen, but with both users. When I log onto the Admin user when it finishes I no longer have my external drives, either showing up in Finder or the desktop icons. I either have to reboot the machine or log out of the Admin user and log back in to get my drives back. I did not have this problem in High Sierra. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Can't restore my iOS 11 backup for my iOS 12 iPhone Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:58 PM PST Good day, Short story, but I backed up my iPhone 7 Plus (iOS 11), and then proceeded to update my phone to iOS 12. I tried to restore my iOS 11 backup, but unfortunately, after updating my phone, iTunes wouldn't allow it to be restored. The message was something like:
Please help. I have some pictures of my late grandfather there, and those are the only pictures I have of him. [link] [comments] |

Random folders being created in Music directory Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:34 PM PST I am on Mac OS 10.14.1 on a Macbook Air. For the last several months, I am finding two-letter folders in the Music directory and subfolder that I have my music in, which is under an iTunes folder. Whenever I play music, even when I am using Spotify and not iTunes, these folders are being created. I can manually delete them but would like to find the cause of this. [link] [comments] |
2018 Air: How can I run dual monitor display? Posted: 30 Nov 2018 05:12 PM PST Hi there! Just purchased a 2018 Air. I have a dual-monitor setup at work (Dell 24" monitors). I currently connect two mini displayport cables directly into my 2015 MBP Retina, but that's obviously not possible anymore! I'd like to figure out just how I can set up the dual montiors without having unnecessary cables or wiring. I'm considering buying something like this for the main hub. But then, obviously this only has one HDMI port. Do I then need to purchase another, separate HDMI splitter or something similar? Any advice would be appreciated. I just want to get to work, plug a dock into my laptop, and go about my day. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:57 PM PST Last version or maybe the one before that (just had my iPhone replaced) saved passwords could be auto filled, even in apps, by pressing a little key on the top right of the keyboard. Since then it's disappeared. How can I get it back? Or is it gone now? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2018 08:11 AM PST I was recently a victim of fraud with my wireless provider. Even though the situation was resolved, I want to take a proactive approach and start by changing my passwords to something stronger. I'm looking into password managers because my friend recommended Dashlane for added password security. I know that apps such as this can generate very strong passwords for you. My question is how do apps such as these differ from the Apple keychain feature in terms of security? [link] [comments] |
Is the iPad Pro 2018 able to display 1080p Posted: 30 Nov 2018 04:52 PM PST Hi so I heard that the iPhone XR couldn't handle videos/pictures in 1080p, on YouTube or Instagram, which is a major thing, especially for a phone that's key feature is its display. I realized the iPad Pro 2018 also has this Liquid Retina display. Can the iPad display 1080p on YouTube, Instagram, and in general? [link] [comments] |
