Posted: 21 Nov 2018 07:42 PM PST Hello Reddit!I'm excited to show you something I've been working on for a while. As many of you probably know, dialing Being an iPhone user myself, I've always used the Field Test app for these purposes. As I used the app to find fairly simple things such as the LTE band or UARFCN, I began to wonder what all the other information in it meant. I looked all over the internet for any guides or resources, but there was little to no documentation on the app and how to use it. That's why I've decided to make this guide that shows what every field in the app represents. What I've Made:I've made a spreadsheet that shows every field you'd find in the Field Test app and what it represents. Since the layout of Field Test changes based on your current connection type (LTE, GSM, CDMA), the spreadsheet includes 4 separate sheets that pertain to each different Field Test. Note: iPhones that use Intel modems come with a completely different Field Test app, so I included that one in the 4th sheet. If you don't know what modem your phone has, check out this document. The spreadsheet provides a concise explanation or example for each field and a link attached to it that directs you to a website which explains the term in greater detail. Extra Info:A few of the fields in the app populate with various messages or codes. The spreadsheet links these terms to documents that I created, which explains the terms in greater detail and defines the messages. I've attached the documents below if you want to check them out. Qualcomm CDMA Field Test More Info Qualcomm GSM Field Test More Info Qualcomm LTE Field Test More Info Contributions:Many cells in the spreadsheet are either left blank or have a question mark in them (especially on the Intel spreadsheet). Question marks indicate something I stated that I'm not sure of, and a blank space means I couldn't find any information on it. If you are able to contribute any information to the spreadsheet or define any of the unknown terms, please leave a comment on the spreadsheet (I've enabled commenting on it), or comment on this post. I'd love to be able to complete this guide, so your help is greatly appreciated! The "More Info" documents can also be commented on. I hope this can help you if you're ever confused about anything in Field Test! TL;DR: I made a guide for how to read the information shown in the Field Test app. [link] [comments]
iOS "Media" Storage Category: A Mystery Posted: 22 Nov 2018 07:55 AM PST Parents are visiting for the holidays, and as is tradition I've been gifted an IT issue to solve, this time with iOS storage. My mother's iPad (Air 2 64 GB, iOS 12.1) has storage issues. The culprit is somewhat of a mystery to me at this moment, as the vast majority of her storage is taken up by the "Media" category when looking at Settings > General > iPad Storage. All the normal space-taking media apps such as Photos, Stream (xfinity), iMovie, TV, Messages, etc. are listed down below as "Apps" storage. I've looked into each of those, and there's nothing big downloaded in any of those apps that I can find. She definitely has thousands of photos showing up in Photos, but I'm unsure how to tell which are stored locally and which are stored in iCloud (she has 200 GB of iCloud storage of which she's currently using ~50 GB). I hooked her iPad up to my MacBook Pro and checked out the storage in iTunes. There, the biggest storage category is "Videos" and it says 9 items are taking up over 40 GB of storage. I assume this is the culprit. However, it doesn't list those files anywhere in the iTunes dropdown menus. At this point, I did a re-sweep of all the apps that I figured may contain videos (but why wouldn't this show up as Apps storage if that were the case?). Nada. I then hooked up the iPad to my PC, but when going through what gets exposed in Windows Explorer, couldn't find anything egregious. My GoogleFu skills are failing me as well, most direct to Apple Discussions about "Media" category storage issues with iOS 11+, where the responses From Apple are unfortunately not very helpful, certainly not in my case. Any assistance? I'll try and edit my post with screenshots of the storage screen and what I'm seeing on iTunes if needed. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2018 07:37 AM PST So I'm testing out Truphone's e-SIM with my iPhone XS Max. As some may already know their service uses T-Mobile's network. Truphone does not have LTE roaming agreement with T-Mobile. I have Truphone set for cellular data and Verizon set for voice. I ran into a problem when making a call with my Verizon phone number. VoLTE does not work. I have also tried Gigsky which they use AT&T for their network. Which is setup the same way I do with Truphone and Verizon. Gigsky being data and Verizon being the voice. They do have LTE roaming agreements with AT&T. If I make a call using the Verizon line VoLTE works fine. I know iOS 12.1.1 is on beta. Does anyone think this is a software issue, carrier, bug or because Truphone is only 3G? [link] [comments]

How do you remind yourself to look at your reminders? Posted: 22 Nov 2018 03:48 AM PST This is a bit silly but since the Reminders app does not badge its icon with the number of uncompleted reminders, I sometimes forget to look back at it. I can setup a recurring alarm for that but that again feel a bit silly. Am I missing something here? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2018 05:56 AM PST I'm looking for recommendations for the best iOS app for cropping and rotating videos. I'd like for the app to support editing straight from the Photos app if possible. Cheers! [link] [comments]
iOS Allows SOME Access To Its Filesystem. But It’s Read-Only. Posted: 21 Nov 2018 05:31 PM PST Hello everyone, I'm an aspiring security researcher, and got bored. I decided to look at how far the sandbox really lets you go in terms of accessing parts of the filesystem that aren't part of its designated container. PLEASE NOTE: In NO WAY does this at all allow you to modify, add, or delete ANY files in the areas I am about to talk about. These areas in the system are, in UNIX terms, "Read-only". Which directories can you view? After combing the filesystem using an app I'll mention later, these are the directories. /System/Library /usr/lib /Developer Note 1: You can read any of the files and folders after /System/Library, /usr/lib, and /Developer. /System is pretty much an empty folder and acts primarily as a link to the folder within it. Note 2: /Developer will not have any files or folders within it unless you have a tab known as "Developer" enabled in Settings. It is identified by a blue square with a small hammer inside it. This tab is used by app developers to debug their applications prior to release. You can enable this tab two ways:
Why does Apple allow this?! Apple allows apps to view these directories for various purposes like checking for jailbreak related files in the directories listed above (aka unsigned code), so that if apps find such a file, it will throw a "We don't support jailbroken devices" prompt at you. Another reason, (not proven), is that apps use this extended access to check if it is compatible with the device. Why did you go through the trouble of making this post, and why tell us?
Thanks for reading! Edit: The app I used is called "FileBrowser". You can download it by searching for it on google. Idk if it's against the rules here to post links to apps from unknown sites, so yeah. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 02:10 AM PST My situation..
What I'm worried about.. I already have lots of photos shot over the years on my iCloud and documents as well. If i set it up as new using my apple id, would it delete the data from the iCloud as well or sync the data with the phone? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:38 AM PST For the longest time I've been using the jbme site to go in between unjailbroken to jailbroken states. Just now, I've experienced a hiccup when going into the jailbroken state and the phone wants me to activate it again which it can't. Confusingly for me, it's not iCloud activation, just plain 'ol activation. I saw some old posts saying that activation can't be done specifically for my device (iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.3.3) and iOS due to some flub on Apple. I knew the day will come when I have to leave behind iOS 9, but I can't even get my data backed up for it since iTunes wants a restore. My go-to tool for accessing my phone has always been iMazing and even that has led me to a dead end. Perhaps someone can help point me in another direction before I say goodbye to my data? iPhone and iPad authentication loop Posted: 21 Nov 2018 04:14 PM PST I don't understand what is happening here. I input and verify the Apple ID on my iPhone then my iPad does the same thing asking me to verify. Once I do it there it asks me on my iPhone again, then iPad, then iPhone. This never ending loop. Can someone help? [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Nov 2018 10:42 AM PST When I turned on family sharing, years ago, it created a shared calendar with my family. I didn't want it so I manually deleted the shared calendar. Now I would like it back. How do I get the shared calendar back? Or is it as easy as just creating a new calendar called "family' and sharing it? I didn't know if it had any other special functionality. [link] [comments]

iPad periodically dies requiring factory reload Posted: 21 Nov 2018 01:53 PM PST I've got an old iPad 3, that I had since new. In the last year periodically(monthly or so) it becomes unresponsive ... or apps don't behave properly. Then after restart it will hang on the Apple logo. So put it in recovery/DFU mode and restored it to factory settings. This usually takes several attempts as it will fail with the "An unknown error occurred (14)". (I have used different cables, on different computers using latest iTunes etc, which is the usual diagnosis for this error) Interestingly, each time I attempt the restore the progress bar is more than the previous time (until it finally completes) ... some times it takes 2 attempts, others it takes about 10 times. Does anyone know of a way to actually scrub all the memory or do a diagnostic to find out where the fault comes from? [link] [comments]
iphone 7 battery-capacity: 93% after 6 months... is this normal? Posted: 21 Nov 2018 12:09 PM PST I am not a heavy phone user. I rarely watch video or have the screen on for extended periods of time. I restrict background activity on almost all of my apps. I charge every night. Battery has reached 0% once since I've owned this phone. Is it honestly normal for an apple phone to lose over 1% battery capacity per month? [link] [comments]
