    macOS APFS Mojave issue

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 09:39 PM PDT

So, I have macOS installed on a 240GB SSD my MacBook Pro mid-2012 and I installed macOS mojave (which installed on a APFS container). I had an issue with macOS and to make sure I didn't loose any data, I split the drive in half and installed Mojave on the secondary, I fixed the issue and I tried to merge the two APFS partitioned so I deleted the first one with the terminal, now I can't create a new partition, any way I can try to make the full SSD the main APFS container? I need all the storage from my 240GB SSD, I need this for Final Cut Pro and Premier Pro CC. Any help is welcome!

Persistent IPv6 connections from "eoshostd" and "biometrickitd"

    Posted: 09 Oct 2018 02:29 AM PDT

I'm using a 2016 Macbook Pro with Touch Bar.

Via "nettop" command in Terminal, I discovered that there are two persistent established connections that always seem to be on. These are IPv6 connections and are occupied by two processes "eoshostd" and "biometrickitd". I'm guessing they're related to iBridge and the EmbeddedOS for the Touch Bar as they are on a complete separate network interface ("en6" in my case) which I couldn't even disable at all (permission denied).

Has anyone encountered the same or know what exactly these connections are doing? I don't have another Macbook to test it but I had reinstalled macOS in the past and it still behaved the same.

    2FA With an iPhone

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 03:00 PM PDT

I listen to a handful of tech podcasts, and somewhen ago I heard someone was playing with the ability to use your iPhone as a physical 2fa device for logging into your MacBook.

I've been toying with applying blanket 2fa to as much of my online presence as I can, and I am trying to find a unifying method that works for me. So far, I think Lastpass and this mythical MacBook method would work for me.

Anyone know where I can find out if this ever came to be? I am fairly certain I am not imagining it, but with 2 hours of googling I can't find much beyond applying 2fa to an Apple ID.

Mojave's iMessage not working at office

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 10:28 PM PDT

    Hi guys

I have a question, we have three MacBook Pro, under the same network environment, iMessage of two Mojave systems can't work in Proxy, the Proxy all three are the same settings.

    1 10.13.6 update to Mojave 10.14
Originally 10.13.6 system available for normal use.

Since updating to Mojave, iMessage isn't able to send or receive messages at the office.

If I leave the office network, I can send and receive messages normally.

1 clean installation to Mojave 10.14

iMessage isn't able to send or receive messages at the office.

If I leave the office network, I can send and receive messages normally.

    1 set maintains 10.13.6

Send and receive messages wherever you are.

Is this a bug? Is there a way to solve? thx!

Mac Mini 2009 BCM4321 High Sierra?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 03:17 PM PDT

Since El Capitan is end of life, I used dosdude1's High Sierra patcher.

I do know that the BCM4321 is not supported under High Sierra but I'm hoping maybe there's a way to enable it?

I did some online searching and got results on installing kext's and plist modifications but results show they don't seem to likely work.

In summary, is there an unofficial way of enabling the BCM4321 at all under High Sierra on a Mac Mini 2009?

    URLs appreciated!

Home sharing from Mac to Apple TV problem , help!

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 08:44 PM PDT

Lately I have been trying the home sharing feature of macOS and iTunes, which lets me access media content on my MacBook Pro using my Apple TV 4K. I added an mp4 video to my home movie section, and like magic, I see it on my Apple TV. The video runs fine, but after like 20 minutes, the video stops and closes. I then need to go back and select the video again, and select resume from where I left off. Any idea how to fix this? Would love to watch a full movie uninterrupted...

    Is beamer.app dead?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 08:39 PM PDT

Beamer.app doesn't launch for me in MacOS Mojave. Not only that I've contacted beamer.app support about 14 times now. No response. Their last twitter post is over a year ago.

Does anyone know what happened? Did the creators of beamer.app die? Go to jail or what?

    Virtualization Software

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 03:40 PM PDT

    Hello,

I am looking for a new virtualization software, or help with my old one ;)

I know there is Fusion, Parallels and VBox.
I tried VBox: Not the nicest UX and sometimes slow/buggy - meh
Atm I run parallels: Nice and fast but one major flaw (in my opinion) the coherence feature...
I don't want my Mac to be mixed with the VMs I run. I don't want my VMs to start automatically. I don't want to find Linux programms in my Mac applications folder. I just want my VMs to be isolated and only run when I start them, maybe enable shard clipboard once in a while.

I can't find anything online on how to disable this, since everything I find is about ENABLING it and not turning it off for good.

    So my question is:
Can I somehow disable all these coherence features at once, without having to turn them off for every VM I create?
So parallels basically behaves like VBox but with better performance?
    Or
    Does Fusion handle this better?

My mac just puts everything under "Other" when stacking

I'm sorry if this is too silly, but my macos mojave just put everything under "Other" when I choose group stacks by kind, even if there are obviously several images, videos, documents, etc. Any ideas?

How i deleted system storage after nothing i tried worked

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 07:36 AM PDT

My system storage took up 120gb, i tried everything i found online but nothing worked. I didnt want to download anything but after seeing OmniDiskSweeper in a few videos and posts i said fuck it i dont have anything to lose, ill try it, maybe it actually works. And it did. Its completely free, no signup, nothing. Just click download, open and drag into apps and you can just open it and use it.

All it does is scan your drive and show you what takes up storage. Then you can just select what you want to delete and click the delete button right in the program.

In my case lightroom backed up some of my video files for some fucking reason and it took up over 80gb.

If deleting local TM snapshots, redoing spotlight or any other method didnt work, try this. It will show you whats inside "stystem" and you can delete it right away if you want, not like the about this mac storage where its greyed out. Really helped me a lot and i hope it will help others in a similar situation too.

    here are some screenshots

Unable to open shared calendar + weird bug (cross posting from /outlook365)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 11:41 AM PDT

My company uses Outlook for email and calendaring. Some people have windows computers, some people have Mac. I have a Mac and Outlook 2016.

When I had a Windows computer, I had all these other calendars from other people in the company added, so I could check when scheduling meetings. Since I moved to Mac, I tried so many things, but can't add anyone's calendars (have been looking at it on webmail). I have access, the calendars are open and I just need to see busy or free. But it keeps saying I don't have permission to see the calendars. I even tried with one of my coworkers, to have her give me more permission to her calendar, and still it won't open it!

Also, for the calendars I try to open, a lot of times, somehow, the account gets added to my list, and I can send emails as that person (which is just completely odd... I can't see the calendar, but can write on their behalf?). And it wont show sent by My Name on behalf of Whoever, it sends it as if the person had sent directly.

Anyone has had this happen? How did you fix it?

Finder previews no longer works since Mojave update

    Posted: 08 Oct 2018 06:57 AM PDT

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016) with a 2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of ram. After the new update finder no longer display the preview of any image and when I open it in the preview (using space) it loads infinitely. It's been like this for days. Restart doesn't resolve it.

    Any ideas?

Weird ugly border line on top of application window

Weird ugly border line on top of application window

Yesterday I decided to update from High Sierra to Mojave happy that I can try some new features like dark mode, etc. But I am disappointed. In my opinion dark mode is slightly obsolete, significant borders around dock, windows, and spotlight makes me feel like I am using some old OS. But this is not the main reason why I am writing this post. It's very subjective. But what triggers me most is that thin white border on top of some third party apps like Chrome, VSCode, Spotify, etc. It's so ugly and distracting that I'm planning downgrade to High Sierra. It appears in light mode and dark mode either.

    https://i.redd.it/g4sq09fl0yq11.png

Someone who can explain this or have some more information about this ugly bug or whatever it is?

tl;dr : There is an annoying white border on the top of third party applications window and I don't know if this is a part of Mojave design or if it's some type of bug.
