    My wife has had iPhones since the 5C, and was excited to get the XS after opting for the 8 last year. The camera is the most important feature to her. After spending a week with the phone she's decided to send it back and switch to the Pixel 3 because the photos are THAT bad. Every photo taken in less than great light has noise EVERYWHERE and rarely gets the exposure right. I'm talking photos indoor with lots of natural light midday. Event though I'm a Pixel 2XL user it seems crazy to me that this iPhone could be that bad. Is it possible it's a bad unit, or is this what The Verge meant when they said it was the best iPhone camera but still didn't beat the Pixel 2?

    Buying a used iPhone X. What to check?

    I found a very good deal for an iPhone X. How and what can i do to check if everything is working properly?

    My first idea would be battery life. But is there some kind of diagnosing app that quickly checks all components?

    Is Apple maps any good in Europe?

    Hey there!

    I'm about to upgrade from my old Nexus 5x to an iPhone Xr and would love to switch to Apple's apps. But I read somewhere that Apple maps is pretty bonkers in Europe compared to Google Maps. I'd like to completely opt out of Google's eco system.

    TIL: You can force touch from the edge to reveal app switcher!

    So I have used my iPhone 8 for a year now after switching from a fabled 6. I just realized I can force press from the edge to reveal the app switcher 🤯

    Edit: On more testing a force flick from left will let you go back and forth two apps while an iPhone X style press and drag will reveal the switcher.

    Very happy to see this baked into older phones :)

    24 Hours Later After Switching (Pixel 2XL - iPhone Xs Max)

    I loved my Pixel, but seeing the release a giant iPhone X... I just had to go for it. I'm not an iOS guy, and nor am I an Android guy. I enjoy both as they have their individual advantages. If you've always been with iPhone, I recommend trying some phone that runs Android at least once to learn what your options are. And while Androids of the past have been lacking compared to iPhones, OEMs have gotten their crap together. Anyways, on with sharing my experience.

    Performance Damn, this thing is smooth. There is little stutter when scrolling, and animations are smooth as heck. I really love this thing so far. While my Pixel 2XL was smooth as well, but I'd notice more stutter, but still- not that much. Also, the animations were nice but I still prefer the sleek animations on the XS versus the more practical ones on the Pixel.

    Battery Eh, it's about the same. Honestly, could probably make it to nighttime but I like to have charge.

    Also, to any Pixel users coming to the Xs/Max, you can buy the $20 USB-C charging cable and it'll work to enable fast charging when plugged into Pixel's charging brick. Save the money, and don't buy the expensive USB-C Apple charging brick.

    iOS Last iPhone I used was a year and a half ago with the iPhone 6s. Great phone, bad battery. Anyways, iOS is great. I love the App Store selection, I love how it integrates with all your Apple products, and I just love the minimalistic look of it. Also, I didn't think I'd ever use it- Animoji is fun. However, I wish the Memojis had more hair options for me.

    However, iOS is lacking when it comes to features. I miss my always on display, Google Assistant, and some of that sweet Android customizability (but Apple will never allow that)

    Camera My Pixel 2XL spoiled me. The camera was so good, now the latest and greatest iPhone looks like crap in comparison to me. Portrait mode sucks. Period. I've taken most of my photos indoors, and I've noticed while the photo tends to look bright, once you zoom in it looks so grainy and gross. That was not a problem with my Pixel 2 XL. One odd thing is the front camera portrait looks better than the rear. And no, it's not beautygate, it's just it for some reason looks more detailed and less grainy. I haven't taken many outside shots, but the ones I have taken look pretty nice.

    One thing I applaud is Apple getting rid of the classic iPhone-y colors. What I mean is in the past on iPhones, everything has a blue hue to it. Now the colors are nice and a little more saturated. I like that.

    Hardware The edge to edge screen is beautiful. It's so, so worth it. The screen is fantastic. The gold color is amazing, and didn't come out as pink as I expected. The glass is nice, and feels good to hold. The stainless steel is pretty when clean, but it gets dirty real easily.

    The Pixel's design was very nice too, and while most people may not agree with me, but the two tone design is gorgeous, and I loved it.

    Conclusion The iPhone is great and feels very premium. However, my biggest gripe is the camera. Will probably use this one for at least a year and a half.

    Anyone have success removing water stains from saddle brown leather case?

    I accidentally left this in a wet golf cart compartment yesterday. It was in water for about half an hour before I noticed. Wiped it off and scrubbed with warm water and soap, but it still looks like this a day later. It's really ugly in person. Does anyone have any tips for removing these stains? Or do you think they'd be less pronounced if I darkened the case with mink oil?

    Hello,

    I've been in the market for a mega convenient car mount. I've been having a hard time finding my dream version and am hoping you guys can offer suggestions. Specifically I am looking for one with the following features:

    • the mount would use a magnet to allow my phone to easily adhere to it
    • ideally said magnet would need to work without a special phone case (for example a metal square could be included that I could stick to my own case)
    • while I prefer to not need a special case for my phone, I could be persuaded if the case looks nice and isn't made of hard plastic
    • the mount would need to attach to a vent, I do not want any sort of suction cup nonsense
    • the mount also needs to wirelessly charge my iPhone X at 7.5W

    I've seen a few that do this but many of them have very mixed reviews. Hoping someone here has had success with a specific one that I could feel comfortable purchasing. Thanks in advance!

    I prefer using the glide method to type, but Gboard is a disaster. I don't get why Apple doesn't at least offer a native option to glide type, so until they do I'm at the mercy of third-party apps. Any recommendations out there? I've about had it with Gboard.

    Apple Watch preorder delays

    So I'm not sure if this is the best place to past this if it's not I'll delete the post.

    I preordered two watches from Best Buy along with two phones, an XS and XS Max. The phones came in. The watches did not. Best Buy is saying maybe end of month for the watches but they really don't know.

    I have two coworkers that have series 4 watches who said they just went to Best Buy had them order them from the warehouse and they had their watches in 3 days.

    If I have pre-orders how are others getting them before me? Why can't Best Buy get my watches from the same warehouse my coworkers had theirs shipped from?
