    Why to choose Apple Watch Series 3 over Series 4

    As I have bought a refurbished Apple Watch Series 3 last week instead of the new Series 4, I have decided to write an advice post for people who are considering if it's worth buying the cheaper Series 3. Feel free to discuss pros and cons in the comments and add any if I forgot something.

    You should consider Series 3 if:
    - you don't need LTE (if you do, consider also buying refurbished/second hand Series 3)
    - Series 4 seems like way too much money, new Series 3 are $120/€130 cheaper than Series 4 (depending on the market)
    - you don't like the new Infograph watch face, old watch faces (and their complications) are arguably better optimized for the rectangular display of Series 3
    - you don't need ECG (the app will be available for Series 4 later this year) or fall detection

    ​

    With Series 3 you still get:
    - the latest watchOS 5
    - 50m water resistance (same as Series 4)
    - GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS (same as Series 4)
    - barometric altimeter (same as Series 4)
    - optical heart sensor (differently arranged than in Series 4) with warnings about too high or too low heart rate (same as Series 4)
    - support for all new and old bands (40mm bands match 38mm Apple Watch, 44mm bands match 42mm Apple Watch)
    - kickass smart watch

    What does the color of the weather ring mean?

    I've been scratching my head all day wondering what the heck is wrong with my watch. By 9pm I had only burned 35 active calories �� Turns out I entered my weight in wrong this morning. The watch was calculating calorie based on a 13 lb person instead of 135. Haha. Screwed up my streak though ��

    Does anyone know what actually happens when fall detection calls 911 for you if you don't say you're ok?

    Like, does the operator just hear nothing and automatically send an ambulance to your current location?

    Since this morning erasing an iMessage conversation on iPhone erases it also on watch.

    Since this morning when I erase a conversation on my phone it disappears also on the watch, like if iCloud Message is working on the watch too. It's very useful but it's the first time i see it happening (I have the watch sonce last year now). Did something changed recently?

    Can anyone recommend GREAT watch strap makers?

    As much as I love Apple's straps, going leather means either buying the Hermes version, which although is really nice is $339 for their cheapest or the Apple official leather band which runs 150 bucks.

    I'm not a cheapskate, but I also don't really want to pay over 100 bucks but I don't want to pay 20 bucks for some cheap ass leather on Amazon.

    Can anyone recommend a manufacturer they have bought a strap from that they love and would be willing to recommend?

    Series 4 band slots are different!

    JUUK band did a nice write up on why their steel bands don't fit series 4 slots. Turns out the S4 band slots are 0.6 mm deeper. Confirms my contention that some third party bands can get jammed...

    Apple stores need an area that at least simulates natural light

    I went to the Apple store yesterday to pick up a darker watchband to use for Autumn/Winter, and the lights in the store are terrible for determining the real colour of anything. The "Storm Grey" watchband looked like a particularly unflattering zombie green under their lights, and of course they're not going to let someone carry the watchband all the way out of the store and down the mall hallway to the entrance so they can see it in the sunlight.

    The sales guy did say they could be returned for any reason if I wasn't satisfied, so I went for it anyway, and luckily it is much better in real light, but TBH it looked really ugly in the store. Since it's a half-hour drive to the store I'm really glad I don't have to return it, but I think it would be helpful if they had at least one area with lighting simulating natural light so customers could have an idea of the actual colours of their (fairly expensive) purchases.

    Mine just shipped and FedEx says it's originating from Taiwan. This is the first Apple product I've ordered that didn't come from Shenzhen (my 6 Plus, 7 Plus, X, and MacBook Pro all came from China), anyone else seeing this?

    Gold watch, after market bands?

    I had decided I would get the S4 in gold until someone pointed out to me that bands usually come with silver lugs and buckles, and now I'm unsure. Does the gold watch really clash with these, or is it negligible? Does anyone have pics of their gold watch on a 3rd party band? Thanks.

    Any swimmers able to get MySwimPro to work on Apple Watch?

    I primarily bought new series 4 to use MySwimPro to track swimming and learn new techniques. But Apple Watch app is unable to start workouts which is very disappointing. I have updated to latest versions of iOS, watchOS, MySwimPro app & followed instructions but to no avail.

    I've written to MySwimPro developers more than once with no response.

    I'll have to return my watch back before 14 days are over, which sucks.

    Any swimmers out there having same issue? Any tips would be appreciated.
