Opinions on dark mode? ( I hate it.)

For some reason the dark mode feels more like "grey mode" with ugly whitish - grey borders and weird color palette. I personally found Spotify's dark colors better.

macOS Mojave - login screen issues

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:56 PM PDT

    I have found something strange.
After booting when I am on login screen everything seems to be realy slow. When I finish typing password then I can see classic login progress but more on less in half of them screen is changing to black with Apple logo and finishing loading. After that everything is ok, even when I try to logout and try again. This issue only occur after first booting.

    Anyone expieriences something similar?

Mojave seems faster and runs quieter

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 06:51 PM PDT

Since updating to Mojave, my Macbook Pro 2016 seems to run much smoother, and it is noticeably less noisy. The fans used to always spin up when connected to a Sonnet Thunderbolt -> Dual 4k DP adapter, now the system runs below 60* all the time and is silent.

    I am VERY happy!!

Upgrading to High Sierra killed my battery life

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:18 PM PDT

So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to High Sierra from Sierra about a week ago and I've noticed my battery life has seriously suffered as a result. According to both Coconut Battery and the battery status on the Mac, I should have a good battery but I find it rapidly losing charge even when I'm just taking notes or browsing the internet. I am using Firefox, which I've heard is an issue

Anyone else have similar problems? Would reverting back to Sierra fix the problem at all? Thinking about just doing that, though I'd like to stay on the latest OS if there's a solution

Mojave increases CPU single core performance on unsupported mid-2010 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 04:14 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/bcLel82

I took a few geekbench tests before and after the upgrade install on an unsupported machine and thought the sub might be interested

Single core performance has decreased, and i did not perform multiple test, my mac is 8 years old and this update is so far very snappy, safari was once unusable, now I might prefer it over chrome (sites like apple.com are way less laggy on safari now, altough i havent done much testing)

It seems to me that this update could have been rolled out to non-metal gpu macbooks after all, even a 8 year old core 2 duo can run it exceptionally, what are your thoughts?

If you are interested in how to install Mojave on an unsupported machine, theres a patch and tool right here: http://dosdude1.com/mojave/

macOS Mojave Public Wifi connection issues

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 11:44 PM PDT

    Hi,

I upgraded to macOS Mojave the second it released and now I find my self in a piccle.. I am unable to connect to public wifi, both at my preferred coffee shop and at university.

I have tried manually entering captive.apple.com/hotspot-detect.html and the window pops up but it is just blank and after some time it comes up with an error message.

I have tried turning wifi on and off, have restarted my Mac, and flushed dns cache, but nothing seems to work.

Anyone else experiencing the same and have a solution on how to sort this out? Thanks!

Edit. Added picture, but seems like imgur butchered the quality

Custom keyboard layout Mac Os Mojave

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 02:28 AM PDT

Hi! I've made a custom keyboard layout with Ukulele. I've made it somewhat system wide (it works from login screen) but is there a way to make it fully system wide? So like the OS recognizes the phisical keyboard layout as my custom layout. For example when I boot up and hold alt and you can join a network my keyboard is still the default US keyboard layout. The solution must be on root level I think as I on other blogs, but those solution doesn't work anymore. This would be very important for me. Thanks Macbook Pro 2017 13" Touch Bar Mojave 10.14

Mac OS Mojave update has fixed my WiFi issue

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 01:59 AM PDT

I bought a new MBP 2018 15" right after it was released. From time to time I had some annoying issues with WPA2 Enterprise WiFi connections. After waking up, my laptop couldn't connect to the university wifi and I had to reconnect it a few times, turn the wifi adapter off and on, etc. However it worked fine with my home wifi that has WPA2 Personal authentication.

It seems that Mojave has fixed the problem. Now when I open my laptop it connects to the university wifi much faster and I don't have to reconnect it again and again. Has anybody else noticed any wi-fi stability improvements?

MOJAVE Sound Bug Fix / Slow broswing Fix

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 01:46 AM PDT

All credits to users on the apple forum

    https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/87240

Yesterday i was having an issue with my fresh install of Mojave on my 2015 Macbook air

The break down was i had muted my mac prior to updating, i assumed that this was what disabled the audio drivers , or that the OS was that bad

    Symptoms :

    Sound preferences did not load

    Browsing was super slow

Any audio related task caused the system to freeze momentarily

I did an SMC Reset, PRM restarted. nothing worked, as a last effort i downloaded high sierra and was about to downgrade before i did one last google search

    Sound familiar?

This is caused by an old plugin that was installed if you used Airfoil at any time. Even if you uninstalled these drivers were there and caused the coreaudiodid not to load

    Fix

    Go to

    /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL and

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

Delete these two folders . Password will be prompted. And you will be back to normal

I saw a bunch of others having the same issue and didnt see anyone posting a fix so i thought id help

TLDR: Delete two folders and drivers will be fixed

Mojave Sends Me Back To Lock Screen

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 02:23 PM PDT

After logging into my Mac, give about 30 seconds and I am sent back to the lock screen. This happens repeatedly. I've tried starting up in Safe Mode, resetting PRAM, and reinstalling the OS. The only way I can get everything to work is by disabling SIP, but I'm not sure keeping that off is a good idea.

    FileVault Pinwheels Mojave

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 07:19 PM PDT

As the title says: fresh install of Mojave using a USB drive, turning on FV pinwheels the computer. 2015 rMBP 15", 16 GB, 256 SSD. The mouse moves, so I think it's encrypting the drive, but the screen is frozen (time doesn't go forward, FV progress bar doesn't move) so I can't tell how far along the drive is encrypting, if at all.

Anyone else experience this issue? Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, just confused as why it's happening and my Google-fu has failed me.

MacOS sleep settings and the lock screen

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 05:04 PM PDT

Hey guys and girls, I'm looking for a little help with an ongoing issue I have been having with our Mac's and Amazon workspaces. I have manually set all of the power saving and sleep settings to stop the Mac from sleeping/entering a low power state. When I lock the screen however, I loose the connection to my Amazon workspace. Is there a way that I can have the screen locked whilst maintaining that connection? I work in an office full of developers and need to find a solution for the issue! Any solutions/suggestions are greatly appreciated! Sorry for the formatting. Im on a mobile device!

Is this normal the same program running 4 times?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 06:13 PM PDT

Is this normal the same program running 4 times?

Hello community. I hope everybody is fine. I have the following query. I would like to know if this is normal (attached screenshot). Today I installed Mojave and everything goes "well". I mean that the performance seems to be the same although a little slower than with previous verisons. I know that my model is old but I mean that some applications go slower. in activity monitor I see some applications that are repeated a lot like Backup and Sync from Google and another that appears in red that says not responding. Do any of you have something similar? tomorrow I will install the programs that I use the most and I will see how it goes. they are heavier programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and after effects. Thank you all for your time.

In Safari, how can I set the default mailto handler to use Gmail (in Safari)?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 08:24 PM PDT

With the Mojave release, the Mailto extension no longer works! After all these years, I don't know why Apple hasn't fixed this problem.

In Mail settings, you can set the reader. Selecting Safari will open Safari but won't open the page correctly.

Anyone know how to set this properly?

Mojave on MacPro 5,1 - success!

Mojave on MacPro 5,1 - success!

I have just finished successfully installing 10.14 on my MacPro 5,1. This is how it worked for me after stuffing around:

    1. MacPro 5,1 equipped with a single blank SSD. Mine was HFS+ formatted but I think it matters not.
    2. I have a single video card installed in bottom slot: Sapphire AMD R9 380 which is a generic PC card, and is NOT listed in Apple's lineup of compatible cards. I have a Toshiba 1080p TV attached via HDMI.
    3. I created a USB flash drive installer (8GB) according to official Apple instructions.
    4. I booted to USB which happens by default with a blank SSD. It's slow but eventually the Utility menu comes up.
    5. There was first a firmware update which required selecting "shut down" from Apple menu as button didn't work. Subsequent holding power button until signals worked as instructed. Slow again, be patient
    6. Subsequently selection of "Install Mac OS" proceeded without a hitch. All up took about an hour.

Are there any must have features in Mojave that warrant rebuying the pseudo subscription apps that don't update?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 11:32 PM PDT

    Hi.

I've just tried Mojave. Its okay, but there's nothing actually different on it. Its given internet media a billion clicks so its revved the whole release up, but reality is its pretty much the same. I don't exactly want to rebuy apps just because they don't support the latest version anymore, so would like to take advantage of the next few years of security updates on High Sierra before going through that cycle again.

Before I downgrade, am I missing any killer features? Dark mode is okay, but I like light mode much better, and the iOS apps are useless to me. A new layout for the App Store is not really a feature. I don't send pictures outside of messages.

Im kinda hoping there is something actually :) Any changes in battery life or performance?

    Thanks for any advice.
