- Running a Mac Mini (late 2012) and anytime I go to stream video (YouTube, Vimeo..pretty much any porn site) the whole computer slows to a crawl after about 5 minutes. When i open Activity Monitor it shows a “kernel task” using like 1600% of the cpu. It does this for maybe 5 minutes then goes away

Posted: 08 Aug 2018 11:27 AM PDT Hi Everyone, hope you're all doing well I recently accidentally had an earpod fall into the sink, so I Googled to try to find a remedy, and I found two videos that provide a method to get the earpods back to working order Basically, it seems that the videos suggest gently blowing in the holes of the earpod for a short amount of time I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on this remedy Additionally, if you have a remedy or suggestion of your own, I would be glad to read it Thanks 🙂 [link] [comments]  |
| What is wrong with my MacBook pro? Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:45 PM PDT To preface this, a story: I had 2 missing screws in the bottom of my computer. It was causing a bit of a problem, so I took it to the genius bar to have them replace them. They did. I had also noticed that I could push the area around the trackpad, and a click would register. I had heard that this may be due to the battery swelling, so I asked them to check that out as well. So, I went to the Genius Bar, and they said that it was a "grounding issue," and that it would require replacing the bottom assembly. I declined due to the cost of such a measure and the minor effect it would have. So, I get back home, and I go to turn on my computer, and... nothing. TL;DR Take my computer to the apple store to have screws replaced and the battery examined, and the computer doesn't turn on afterwards. Symptoms: 1. Computer does not turn on if not connected to power. 2. If not connected to power, there is no boot sound or display output. 3. Activity monitor looks like this: https://imgur.com/gallery/vtwTdUq 4. The battery indicator in the top right is gone 5. Trying to turn on the battery indicator in Sys. Prefs. does nothing. 6. PRAM and SMC have been reset. Many, many times. | Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:54 PM PDT The appleID that is on an old Ipad 2 is locked out, and I can't use the Ipad since its forcing me to login to the appleID. I can't reset the password or use the security questions to change anything since all that info was created along time ago. The email that was used on that appleID I cant even access, and my parents made the security question a while back so they don't remember what the answer was. | Mid-2010 Macbook Pro won't turn on Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:27 PM PDT I gave my friend my 2010 Macbook Pro. I warned her that I had no idea how long it would last. This was a few months ago. She now tells me that the charging light, green, indicates the battery's getting charged, but the machine simply won't turn on. Am I right to think that this is almost certainly a logic board breakdown, and that there's no way to solve this without either having very nice equipment of her own, which won't happen, or spending hundreds of dollars on a nearly decade-old machine? They don't have very much money, and I'd like to be wrong that the machine seems kaput without spending far more on it than it's worth - money they don't have. Am I missing something? | Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:16 PM PDT my girlfriend's apple ID password keeps getting changed remotely, even if two factor identification is on. for the past few months (since at least April), every once in a while (sometimes 3-4 times a week, sometimes once every 2-3 weeks), she'll get an email notifying her that her apple ID password has been changed. immediately she'll change it back to something she chooses - either using the security questions or an email - and then change the security questions and her email password as well. she will then turn on two factor authentication. the next time it happens, first she'll get an email notifying her that two factor identification has been turned off, then that her password has been changed. her phone and her macbook are the only two devices assigned to her apple ID, even after the password change. as far as she can tell nothing fishy has happened with her credit card info yet. how in the hell is this happening and what can she do about it??? any help would be greatly appreciated. | Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:14 PM PDT New to Mac here. I go to Disk Utility, click on the partition, press "Erase" and the Time machine backup that's on there gets erased, but the partition doesn't. When I go into Partition and click on the partition I want to erase, the options above (which include Erase) are not highlighted. When I try to set the bigger partition to a higher number, it won't let me. What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments]  |

I was on the internet, and it froze, and then shut down. When I tried restarting it, it showed a gray screen with a circle/slash on it. I tried restarting it and had no luck. | iPad: Almost Every App Disappears Posted: 08 Aug 2018 08:46 PM PDT Occasionally I'll get my kids iPad and find it looking like this and this. I tried Global Search, a soft-reset (holding down power and home button), also tried the Reset Home Screen in Settings. Nothing has worked to restore it. Even though App Store is missing, I verified that the apps are still installed in Settings. The strange thing is that at some point the apps will all be there and my kid can use the iPad normally, but I have no idea what they did or what triggered it. Anyone seen this before? When I played a song it would just immediately change back to the play icon (as if I had hit pause). I tried deleting apple music and re-downloading it, and the app store will not let me re download it (it's been 2 days now). I though maybe I needed to update my software, and my iPhone will not let me update my software either. I also use the Overcast podcast app which normally automatically downloads new podcasts, and it has stopped downloading them automatically and will not let me download them manually. | Interesting networking behavior after purchasing OWC USB-C Hub Posted: 08 Aug 2018 11:54 AM PDT I use a Macbook Air permanently velcroed to the underside of my desk with an external monitor. I got a USB-C hub from OWC recently to help the dearth of ports but a weird behavior is occurring. I stopped using a dongle for my ethernet and instead connect directly from my Airport Extreme to the OWC hub. Whenever I restart my computer, which I don't have to do often, upon restart I have no internet connection until I unplug the ethernet cable from the port on the back of the Airport Extreme and plug it back in to a different port. Then everything starts working magically. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  |

I bought a phone for my sister on eBay, an iPhone 7, which when we restored it from a backup of her iPhone 6, kept restarting every few minutes and getting very hot. So I tried restoring it to a fresh restore, but it won't restore (error 9) and now is stuck on the recovery screen. So I contacted the seller who was unhelpful, but discovered it is still under warranty via Apple's coverage checker. So we're taking it there tomorrow to get it looked at (genius bar appointment), before sending it back and opening a case. So I just wanted to ask, is it okay if I tell the Apple Store I bought it 2nd hand, or should I not? Thanks! [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 08 Aug 2018 07:07 PM PDT Greetings! Recently our Mac Mini bought years ago started having issues and so we picked up a new Mac Mini about 6 weeks ago. Took several weeks to actually get it up and running. In the middle of running migration assistant from the old Mac Mini to the new one, the new Mac Mini went belly up and refused to boot. Ran disk utility and it said there were partition issues that it fixed. Still no joy booting. Tried installing the OS via network boot. No joy. Attempted to return the computer to Apple and was told that it was past 14 days and they wouldn't accept it back. They managed to reinstall the OS and said nothing was wrong with it. We got it back and ran migration assistant again. Everything migrated - and then we discovered that it will not send a signal over HDMI to a 1080p projector. If we try, the main 1080p monitor over display port just flashes constantly. Other devices work on this projector over the same line. We've also tried running the new Mac Mini ONLY over HDMI - still no joy. Is it possible we got a lemon? If so, what do we do about it? A $1,200 computer that won't do it's job - powering a projector - is a massive disappointment, not to mention a huge sock to the wallet! [link] [comments]  |
| Media disappearing from Itunes Posted: 08 Aug 2018 03:16 PM PDT I have a ton of TV episodes from DVD's I ripped to my PC and added to Itunes to watch on my Apple TV. Suddenly after years they are gone. Now I obviously still have the media on my PC but I now have to reload about 400 TV episodes back onto Itunes which I really don't have the time to do(If I want them grouped by show and series etc). There's no way I'm reloading all this media onto Itunes I'll go for a different non Apple device but I'm just curious as to why this happened? My 2012 era MacBook running Sierra is getting old along with my old MOTU audio interface. The newer audio interfaces are made for High Sierra. I want a clean install. But when I log into my account normally, while it's loading the screen will turn black. So I just close my laptop, wait five seconds, then open it again, quickly type my password, and find a 10 hour long video. So then I keep the video running in the background as a separate window and then go about my usual business. The video must be visible, even if it's just a sliver of it showing, otherwise it will turn off instantly the moment the video is not visible. The video also doesn't need audio, it could just be black screen with nothing on it. Could this be related to my broken lcd? [link] [comments]  |
