Is there a way to change a key on a MacBook to something else?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 06:53 PM PDT

I want to change the 3 key to the 'n' key because my 'n' key is kind of broken. I know Apple Pages has the text replacement ability, but it's not the same because I want to be able to simply type something like a3d and see the word 'and.'

Before and after 2018 2.6ghz i7 throttle (No more 800mhz)

Man, what a freaking difference after the update:

The 800mhz throttling was just insane, it made the laptop feel useless. No more chugging.

New Macbook doesn't sleep when lid closed (plus messages question)

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 06:52 PM PDT

I just got my new 2018 macbook with touchbar today. I love it, but when I close the lid it doesn't go onto sleep mode for some reason. It just opens up exactly where I left off. Does anybody know why this would be/how to fix it

Bonus question: My messages app is working fine, but none of my old messages are showing up. Any idea how to retrieve them?

MacBook storage - Google drive taking up most of it

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 06:46 PM PDT

So I have a 256GB MacBook pro with touchbar. I use Google drive and have all my photos from my phone automatically back up to iCloud and to Google drive (the free not full resolution). I use Google drive on my computer but how do I get it all off my hard drive? Is that foolish to get it off and just leave it in the cloud?

2016/17/18 MBP Keyboard Cover harmful for screen?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 02:42 PM PDT

Hi, I am planning on getting a keyboard cover made by UPPERCASE for my 2018 MBP 15. I imagine this would come in contact with the screen when the laptop is closed. I've read some people's experiences about oils and small debris stuck on the keyboard cover coming in contact with the screen, and the screen(anti-glare coating) getting damaged when being wiped down.

I wanted to hear your experiences.

    Thanks!

    MacBook Pro 2015 Case Recommendation

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 06:16 PM PDT

I have a 2015 Retina MacBook Pro 15'. I want a nice case that I can put my various stickers on while showing off the Apple Logo. I would like to have some kind of image on the cover but I'm open to options.

I just want to make my MacBook my own without ruining the pretty exterior.

    Any suggestions?

    MBP15-2013: Energized case when charging?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 05:58 PM PDT

Hi folks, not sure if someone could confirm this for me if you have a 15" MBP Late-2013 (or one with MagSafe 2).

When my laptop is plugged in to power, if I slowly and softly drag my finger across the surface of the casing, I can feel something. I don't really have a good word for it. When I unplug the laptop, the surface feel changes significantly.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Or is this true for others? I am concerned that something in wrong with my laptop and I am about to get shocked.

    2013 MBP Issues Using WiFi

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 04:30 PM PDT

Hi, I have a base model 2013 MBP, I bought it used from eBay about nine months ago and over all I am very pleased, except for one caveat; the wireless internet connection can sometimes be unreliable. Obviously there can be a number of factors involved when connecting to the web, however, what I find with MacOS in general, is that it does not fare well when multiple programs use bandwidth, e.g. chrome and iTunes. Has anyone else experienced any similar issues, or know of any quick remedies?

Best way to keep your Macbook Pro Butterfly keyboard clean ?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2018 11:53 PM PDT

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro with the "prone to malfunctioning because of dust" factor. I've had some issues with keys getting their "travel" screwed up due to minute amounts of dust trapped underneath. So what is the best way to keep your keyboard clean AND 'more important' clean it when it gets dust stuck underneath ? Would love to hear your tips

Has anyone successfully swapped their magsafe chargeport out of a MacBook Air?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 05:32 AM PDT

    Hey everybody-

I'm having issues with my chargeport in that it keeps collecting tiny metal flakes and burning out chargers. I've been through 3 this year. I work in steel fabrication and use my computer for work so despite my best efforts keeping the charge port clean is a hopeless endeavor. Can I swap this to an alternate (not apple) charger with an alternate port/ external plug in? I realize this is going to be ugly and require modification to the computer, I just can't keep buying new apple chargers at this rate. The magsafe is a great idea for people that don't work with metal, for me it makes using this computer super frustrating. Thanks in advance!

How much would a developer benefit from a quad-core CPU?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 07:05 AM PDT

I'm a Web developer and I'm looking to buy the new quad-core Macbook Pro 2018 because it has double the multi-core performance than my 2016. Most of my work is web development but I am starting to do desktop and mobile app development too.

So, as a developer, how much do you benefit from a quad-core CPU in your workflow? Maybe faster Java compilation? Faster NodeJS runs?

P.S. No problem with the price because if I end up choosing to upgrade, I will sell my current one.

2017 15 inch MacBook Pro black/green flicker during video streaming.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2018 01:30 AM PDT

This happens on both internal display an external. It happens infrequently only when streaming video from youtube, Hulu, Netflix and other streaming sites.

It will very briefly flash black across around half of the display. Sometimes the color is green.

I do not believe it to be GPU related because it doesn't happen on downloaded videos and it also doesn't happen in GPU intense tasks like games or renders. I've updated software, freshly installed software, and just about everything I can think of. I've had this issue since going to High Sierra, it didn't happen on Sierra, but it also happens on a fresh install of HS.

I'm wondering if this is common, or if I should take it in before my warranty expires. Since the issue is not easily replicated I'm wondering if they would even give it the time of day.

I appreciate your thoughts and comments.
