Here goes nothin: Info I have on the Mac: Mac Air 2014 13" Mac OS High Sierra Bought it new from Best Buy in 2014. Put me through college. No prior water spills, hard drops, or power surges (use a protector). REALLY took care of this thing. It's literally my child. July 5: I prepared a couple tabs open and documents for an online meeting. I take a quick nap, wake up to log into the e-conference room. Mac not responding at all. No problem. I plug in the charger. It turns red, so I wait. Try again 20 mins later. Nothing. At all. Miss the meeting (sad) and call AppleCare. AppleCare Call #1. First rep listened and gave me a couple keyboard commands. Na-da. She suggested we wait until it's fully charged (not that I've had to ever wait until then for my Mac to turn on?) and I wait. AppleCare call #2: Someone else calls me back an hour later and says "is it charged". It is, according to the charger. Green light! Let's go! ....nope. Nothing summons my laptop from this death. Rep suggests I come into the Apple Store, so I go in the following week. July 16: I walk into the Apple Store. I had done a couple google searches and figured the culprit was a dead logic board. I was ready to admit defeat. After my Genius checks me in, he grabs any random charger and plugs it in. He asks me what the issue is, and before I can tell him, my Mac turns on. In fact, the tabs I had all open up. Unsaved documents still running. No Microsoft auto-recovery needed. My battery is on 100%. My messages, displayed. In broad daylight. I am shocked. Before he judges me, I swear to him it didn't respond to anything for the last 11 days. He runs a diagnostic. Lo and behold. Everything looks good. I beg him to take a look "under the hood." He heads to the back and checks it out. When he comes back, he said there's nothing physically wrong. No water damage. No internal damage. I go home, gleeful. Happy. Singing. I ran Malwarebytes, nothing pops up. Cleaned up my files and called it a happy ending. July 23: After a couple days on my seemingly perfect Mac, I get lulled into a false sense of security. After work today, I get home to check my email. It was on and perfect ONE HOUR AGO. and now it's dead. AppleCare #3: I call back. Explain the situation start to finish. And they tell me the same keyboard commands. Didn't work, obviously. So they've suggested going back to the Apple Store. I can't go until next week (it's a very long drive). Basically I'm selling my MacBook Pro from last year, and I'm just cautious of people saying they didn't receive it and doing a chargeback or something I've never really sold anything this expensive before, was wondering if there's anything I should look out for? I've listed it on eBay and gumtree, and already had a couple of offers, one above the asking price specifically asking for recorded special delivery. | Posted: 23 Jul 2018 10:45 PM PDT Hi! I've had my iPhone X 256 GB ATT (iOS 12 PB 3) for about a month now and everything has been working great. Yesterday Face ID stopped working, not like it was scanning and it didn't work but it seemed to just not scan at all. I went into settings removed my Face ID profile and when I tried to set up a new one I got an error message ( Face ID is not available please try setting up Face ID later). After multiple resets and talking to Apple support they asked for me to bring it into an Apple store. I can do that but it's a bit of a haul and I'm worried that it might be a bigger issue. I've had zero damage to the phone itself, no drops cracks replaced screens etc, like I said it's brand new less than a month old. Let me know if you have any ideas! [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 23 Jul 2018 09:55 PM PDT It doesn't happen in the Snapchat app, just in the camera app. I've tried hard restarting my phone and that didn't help. If I move my camera around, the picture gets different colors on parts that shouldn't have color (I.E. my black dresser has orange & pink hues from my walls and carpets). | Stuck on "Hello" screen (infinite loop) Posted: 23 Jul 2018 08:23 PM PDT My school put a MDM and I wanted to get rid of it, I restored it with Itunes (got no backup) and the "Hello" screen popped up, the guided access basicly. It tells me to either: Restore from iCloud Backup, restore from iTunes Backup (which we'll ignore, because I have no backups on it), set up as new ipad or move Data from Android (only shows up if I don't put a Wi-Fi). The first option makes me put my ID, and sends a verification code to my phone, says "Updating iCloud settings..." and loads for a while and shows the backups (I also none on iCloud either), and a "set up as a new iPad" button and "Restore From iTunes". The "set up as new iPad" option shows the "Remote Management", tells me to put my Apple ID and says it's wrong, which does not happen in the iCloud backup option thing. I've read that if I let the battery die and then put it into recovery mode with ReIBoot that screen dissappears. Then I could backup the system and erase the MDM with iBackupBot. ¿How do I get out of the screen? [link] [comments]  |

I have a deadline Friday and can't open my mac anymore. All the files are safe on my external SSD, I have 2 options, get my MacBook to start or buy a new one and get a refund next week, but it feels dishonest. I don't have the money for a new one. Basically, for the past two week, my MacBook would crash when I closed the lid and when I started it back it would show the prohibited logo, but would end up booting. This morning however, he didn't get through the prohibited logo. I didn't care about anything on the computer, so I erased the SSD and did a fresh install, everything went well. Then I test the hardware and everything was all right. The computer still don't booth, use the option key to decide what drive to use to start the computer and I don't see the Drive, but it is detectable in Disk Utility. I had to get a new iPhone, however, I never backed it up to the iCloud or on iTunes. Is there a way to recover pictures, contacts, etc??? My iPhone is blank. I am so upset. | MacBook Pro Colour Screen Issue Posted: 23 Jul 2018 04:19 PM PDT Randomly I open up my MacBook and the whole screen is coloured weirdly. I was on the phone with Apple Support and nothing seemed to work. When I plug in an external monitor and mirror the image, the image on the external display is working perfectly but the issue is still happening on the MacBook screen. I would add a screenshot, but it would just look normal on your end (I took a screenshot, sent to my iPhone and it looks fine) Running: macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Any fixes before I wait hours and hours at the Apple Store? | 2017 iPad Pro has been freezing more than usual lately. Posted: 23 Jul 2018 07:50 PM PDT Within the past week I've had my iPad freeze on me, several times on the unlock screen. I get that freezes are a part of any computer and that's fine, my question is could it be a result of damage to the hardware? Specifically, I got Rome Total War for the iPad, and it's pretty taxing on the tablet. | MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 - Dead Screen (My Fault) Posted: 23 Jul 2018 01:04 PM PDT Hi guys... So, I'm pretty sure I messed up big time. Let me preface by saying I've been a life long PC/Windows/Android etc enthusiast/fanboy. I have tinkered, and fixed, and built more than I can count. I finally decided to make the switch over to mac, or at least get my feet wet so I could start learning more about them. (We get a lot of macs at work, and I felt I needed to familiarize myself with them) I got a free mac mini from work (They were tossing it! wtf!) And I'd been playing with it for a while. I decided to pick up a used MacBook. I found one locally on Facebook Marketplace. It's a mid 2012 MBP 13" (Non-retina). (Not sure what other details would help) Anyway, on to the messup: --------------- TLDR --------------- The only problem my used MBP had when I bought it (YESTERDAY! UGH) was the hinge was quite loose. I googled, and found that it's a pretty straight forward, simple fix. Using this guide, and the iFixit guide I got it apart, got the hinge tightened, and reassembled. Upon power up, I immediately smelled something burning. The screen powered on, and went off. I powered it down immediately. Flipped it over, and took the bottom cover back off. The display cable on the logic board is what fried. No idea what I did wrong, or how that even happened, but it looks like it melted some of the black foam to itself. What is my recourse here? A new logic board, or a new monitor costs more than this thing is worth. What do I do? :( ------- Edit; I disconnected the display cable, wiped off as much of the melted foam as I could, and plugged it back in. I have triple checked that it's plugged in correctly, and the little metal retainer is in the correct position. The laptop will boot, and it makes the startup "chime" sound, but the display (And apple logo on the back) are not lighting up at all. [link] [comments]  |

| Window position not remembered after turning on FileVault Posted: 23 Jul 2018 12:44 PM PDT A couple of months ago I turned on FileVault on my late 2015 5K iMac. Ever since macOS forgets most but not all window positions after reboot. Specifically Chrome, Sublime Text 3 and Spotify as well as my Spaces get messed up. I'm using two additional Displays besides the iMac's internal display. I'm using the iMac's 5K display in its native resolution of 5120*2880 without scaling using RDM and usually have three windows side by side. I generally manage windows using BetterTouchTool's actions. I am usually working on a couple projects at a time and have one space for each project on my main screen. Each space has a Terminal window, one or more Sublime Text windows and one or more Chrome windows. Spotify, Slack and another Terminal are all in full screen mode on one of my external displays while Mail and Calendar and yet another Terminal window are in full screen mode on the other external display. Whenever I reboot the computer (usually every day) Spotify is not in full screen mode anymore and on the main display, all Chrome and Sublime Text windows are on the main space and only half height, Slack is in full screen mode but "to the right" of the secondary display's desktop. I am fairly certain that prior to turning on FileVault all window positions were remembered properly. I am not sure if I remember correctly; it's been a while and it's only now starting to get really annoying to have to re-layout my screen every day. I also noticed that waiting a few seconds before entering my FileVault password on startup changes behaviour somewhat although I can't reliably reproduce this behaviour. Finally my question(s): What may cause window positions to not be remembered properly? I've read on some forum that programs themselves are responsible for remembering their position which explains why only third-party non-apple programs get messed up. If that's the case, is there a way to automatically, programatically layout all windows properly on startup? Possibly using "Assign To" in the Dock? But I only want to assign some windows of a program to a specific space, not all to the same space. Another small question: Is there a way to rename spaces? "Desktop {1..n}" is not exactly helpful. According to apple, I would have to delete every app from that vendor, but what does that mean? What's a vendor and how could I determine which app belongs to a vender? However, if you could just tell me a simple (non jailbroken) way to change the IDFV I would be much obliged. Also can apps see your IMEI? | Additional monitor for MacBook Pro. Posted: 23 Jul 2018 05:34 PM PDT I recently purchased a used MacBook Pro. It's from around 2011 I believe. It doesn't have an HDMI port so I bought a USB to HDMI adapter. My hope was to hook it up to a little tv to use it as a bigger monitor. I've connected both devices and have put the tv on the HDMI input but I still can't figure out why it's not working. The tv says it's not getting a signal. In the past, when I had a newer MacBook Pro with an HDMI port, it worked just fine. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get this working properly? [link] [comments]  |

I live in Switzerland and my family and I are going to vacation in fall to California. It would be right around when the next iPhone will be coming out (end of September). Right now I'm using an old iPhone 6 Plus which really isn't great anymore and I need to upgrade desperately. So now I though, why not just buy the iPhone in America where its's cheaper in the first place and I could get a tax return at the airport for extra savings. Now my question is; Can i buy the iPhone in the US and use it in Switzerland afterwards without any problems. I'm not sure but maybe the antenna frequency's are different and I don't now if I will get into trouble when signing up for a Data contract here with a SIM card. Also an insurance such like Apple care i World have to buy at home. Does anyone of you have experiences or knowledge with that? It would be quite helpful, thanks. | MacBook Pro dead. I need your help understanding what happened. Posted: 23 Jul 2018 02:39 AM PDT So, I have this mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13" which has given me troubles a couple of times. Maybe I got an unfortunate-born unit. Two summers ago I had, for example, to change the cable going from the logic board to the HDD, due to its failure that fried my previous HDD. A couple of times happened that the computer turned off suddenly without reason too. So, a month ago my computer started running slowly, freezing and heating more than normal. I guessed it could be because of the summer hotness, but since I was going easy on him it looked strange. It is a 4gb i5, and I work constantly with a couple excel documents open and less than 10 tabs running in Safari. Nothing too challenging. So, as I was saying, one saturday morning I start my computer and, after some browsing the rainbow death wheel appeared, as I was get used to, but this time the screen turned black and the computer stopped. From that moment is has became impossible to use my computer. When I try to turn it on it displays a different set of results: a "prohibition sign" appears, or nothing appears at all but a blank white screen, or it starts loading the the bar never reaches the ending. Entering recovery or hardware test mode is impossible. It just doesn't take the commands. The computer starts only if I extract my HDD and connect it through an USB port. This makes the computer running but in a super-slow mode. Due to all of this I fear it's something about the logic board. I found a guy with some specialized tools that could try to check and repair it for a maximum of € 160. But nothing is guaranteed. A 3-rd part logic board goes for € 400 which is more than the computer value. I get it's quite old, but everything was running quite good before and I'd like not have to buy another computer. It is safe to disable local snapshots and still make my weekly (sometimes every other day) backups to my external backup hard drive? When I search for a document, say a logic project, it will appear in the spotlight and I can open it but when I click show all in finder it promptly disappears, which is utterly infuriating. Posted: 23 Jul 2018 08:40 AM PDT I have now cropped a group of about 50 photographs two separate times and iPhone photos app keeps reversing the edits after a bit of time. I am about to lose my mind, please help me figure out what's going wrong. For the record these are old hard copy photographs I am laying on a table and taking a picture of and then cropping. Yes I know scanning apps exists like google photo scan but all of those apps seem to lose to much quality in the photos for my liking. [link] [comments]  |
