New to iPhone (8 Plus), why won't the crescent moon go away? + other volume questions

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 09:12 AM PDT

I'm completely new to iPhone. I've been Android since Android was a thing, but I got fed up with their last update and made the switch. I'm pleased with everything except the sound, which is highly confusing to me. Last night I turned the volume down as I normally do with my old phone, and noticed it was still making some sounds. So then I flipped the silent mode switch. That still didn't seem to do much of anything except put a crescent moon in the top corner. This morning, I flipped it back and restarted, and the moon is still in the top right corner of my phone - and yet, I'm not getting any text message notification sounds at all. When I have it open, it makes noise, but when I turn the face off and set it down it doesn't. Volume is all the way up. Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Face ID seems to have become faster after installing iOS 12

    Posted: 25 Jun 2018 08:36 PM PDT

Just installed the Public beta, hope it's not too buggy.

    Highlight: "Measure" app

Grouped notifications are so huge a relief from all the annoying notification floods, phew.

I also like upgrades because they come with new wallpapers, which make the phone look brand new and fresh and I personally usually go through a lot of trouble finding a new wallpaper on the Internet.

Ram Management in iOS 12 Public beta drastically improved!

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 06:50 AM PDT

Apple mentioned about focus of iOS 12 is on performance improvement of old devices. I upgraded my iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 12 public beta and to my surprise, the RAM management of Apps is drastically improved compared to iOS 11.4. App reloading is considerably reduced, almost gone and suddenly my old iPhone has become usable again.

iMessage sending from email instead of phone number after installing iOS 12 Public Beta.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:37 AM PDT

Is this a bug or a setting that I could change? I would like it to send from my phone number instead because it is creating a separate conversation for my contacts when I text them now.

    iOS 12 update?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 07:13 AM PDT

I've updated to iOS 12 last night from the public beta & this morning I was required to change my Apple ID password & sign out on all my devices for 'security reasons' did anyone else encounter this? Should I be concerned at all?

Does iOS’ suggested words update with current events?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 09:18 AM PDT

I'm wondering because I just typed "Xxx" in a message and the keyboard's suggested words displayed "XXXTentacion" which is the rapper that was killed recently.

Before his death I'd never heard of him, and even after I've never written his name. So I wonder if the suggested words are constantly updated with current events?

Should I buy an iPhone 5s?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 09:11 AM PDT

I recently lost my iPhone SE, it was the most powerful iPhone I ever owned. And because I blew all my money on it I really don't want to spend that much right now. I don't have a lot anyway. I was looking at iOS 12 though on the 5s and it looks promising though, I could get one for about 80 dollars on ebay. So I wanted to ask you guys, how is iOS 12 on the 5s? Is it worth using as a daily driver? At least until I have the money to get something better like a 6s or SE.

    Iphone 8 Plus 64Gb or Iphone 7 Plus 128Gb?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 06:08 AM PDT

I have decided to make the switch from Android to Iphone, but I am struggling to see which option is worth it in 2018.

I'm not interested in the Iphone X or A 256Gb Iphone 8 Plus.

It's only an extra 30$ to get 64GB Iphone 8 plus compared to the 128GB Iphone 7 Plus but will the storage last me?

I plan to ride out this phone for at least 3 years

The two phones also seem very similar aside from the updated processor, wireless charging and slight camera differences which isn't a huge deal for me.

I also realize the Iphone 7 plus will continue to get IOS updates for at least another 3-4 years.

I like that the Iphone 7 Plus is lighter and Aluminum.

    Any advice?

Looking for a movie/series tracker app

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 08:20 AM PDT

Hi everyone I recently switch from android to iOS and I am looking for a good movie/series tracker app. I really love the series guide app on Android and I am looking for something similar. Here is a list of the feature I would love to have.

    • mark seen, collected, check in
    • sync with Track.tv
    • browse to see what's coming and add to my watch list to watch later

I don't need an app to actually watch them in the phone I just want to keep track of what I see in the movies and TV.

6S+, no battery health report after battery replacement

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 05:20 AM PDT

Had my battery replaced today at local phone repair shop. At the moment I'am charging the phone, however at battery health it shows ''--''. Is this a sign that the battery is not original or I need to perform something? Im fine with it being not original and I believe the quality is okay aswell as long as it will last longer.

At the same time I also purchased a new charging cable because old one stopped working but now the phone is almost unusable when it is charging. Im pretty sure this was discussed already but what Im experiencing are ghost touches. My concern is whether this cable can damage my new battery or it is fine

Automatic app updates haven’t worked in a while for me

    Posted: 25 Jun 2018 10:11 AM PDT

I remember a while back when my iPhone was plugged in and on wi-fi, it'd automatically update apps but it hasn't done that in quite a while. I always need to go into the App Store and manually refresh (pull down) to see and then download the app updates.

In Settings, I do have Automatic Downloads enabled for Updates.

Does this work for anyone else?

[Help] Are there any limitations in place regarding 3rd party screen replacement?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2018 09:51 AM PDT

Sadly my phone screen just broke, I'm thinking about repairing it myself but have heard in the past that apple has disabled the home button, stop phones turning on and more if you repair it yourself or through a 3rd party.
Is this still the case or am I "safe" to replace my own screen?
