I need to be in the loop during office hours, but don't want to be disturbed once I'm home. | Posted: 18 Jun 2018 09:26 AM PDT I'll start this off by saying I, myself, am not an iOS user, so I am coming to you guys. This is regarding my wife's iPhone, I want to be sure I get it right before I do anything. Here's a bit of the background: So my wife has a 16GB iPhone 6, and loves this thing dearly. It's having some problems, both hardware and software, but she will not entertain the idea of getting a new iPhone, no matter how hard I try to convince her. She seems content to run this thing into the ground. Since I am worried about it dying on her, I set her up with iCloud so should that happen, all her pictures would be safe. Before iCloud, she would just transfer pictures to her external hard drive and delete them from the phone when it would get low on space (another thing I had to explain to her that could die and all could be lost). Well, now she's low on space again and is annoyed with me that she can't "remove pictures from it like she used to" with out it also removing them from iCloud. After looking at the storage breakdown, photos is only using ~800MB since I have "Optimize iPhone Storage" selected, so I knew it wasn't the photos taking all the space. The biggest space hogger is "System" which is using ~11GB, and from what I have read this happens over the life of the phone due to logs and such growing huge, but doesn't actually need to be that big for the phone to function. I have also read that really the only good way to clear this out and get it smaller is to system reset the device - is this true? Since she already is wary of me doing anything to her phone since she - whether rightly or wrongly - blames me putting iCloud on it for her space issue, I need to know what to expect if this is the route I have to go to clear up space for her properly. If I do a full backup to iTunes, reset the phone, and then restore the backup, what can I expect to be the same as before, and what will be different? Is it an exact backup, like all messages, call logs, settings apps, files, notes, and even the wallpaper will be restored the same as before? Or are there things that do not go back the same? If I work on it, I need to hand it back to her seemingly exactly as it was before, so I need to know what I'll need to do after I restore the backup to get it as close as I can to that state as possible. I have read conflicting things on forums about how exact this restore is so I figured it'd be best to ask directly. Thank you! | Posted: 18 Jun 2018 09:07 AM PDT I've had a 5 and SE since 2014 and even then I thought the 5 was too big compared to my 4s. My SE became unusable (not charging, no Touch ID, draining fast, etc). I got an 8 since it was really hampering my work to have an unreliable phone. I completely regret it now because this phone is just too big for me. I can't type with one hand comfortably, can't browse alien blue comfortably, can't be quick at multitasking comfortably, etc. I feel like I need to pause and only focus on using my phone with both hands instead of being able to use it on the go with one hand. This is a major flaw for me. Maybe I'm gripping the phone wrong or using it wrong, but I'm really having a hard time using it or liking it. I would love an SE 2 but really can't wait for one using this 8 or my old SE 1. Any advice on how to make this phone more useable for my situation? [link] [comments]  | ||

I'm new to this sort of thing so I apologize if these are stupid questions but at the moment I'm using at&t prepaid and could I theoretically put my sim card into the iPhone and have it work or is there a block of some kind? if it's not possible can anyone give me some advice or suggestions what to do? | Posted: 17 Jun 2018 04:44 PM PDT So i was at work last night in anaheim hills, a guy my age im 26 he was 18 he had to use my phone, i watched over him while doing carts, nxt thing my phone is gone. So when i was on lunch break, i sped home, got on my ipad, and immediatly put my phone in lost mode. It was tracked all the way to los angeles 40 miles from my house. So my dad went this morning to the guys house, Got my phone back, no damage. The bad news, my texts and contacts are gone. Im on 11.4.1 my imessage cloud sync was on. i signed out of icloud signed back in. And it changed from 6,0 Gb to 50KB. Is there any way i can get my messages back? I do have third party software that allows me to look at deleted messages. And yes i sync everything with icloud. [link] [comments]  | ||

| iCloud icon in App Name after Restore. Posted: 18 Jun 2018 09:16 AM PDT I was having an issue where my auto screen lock would frequently never trigger and put my phone to sleep (thus killing my battery). I did a full backup to iTunes, then wiped my phone and restored the backup (others had mentioned this as a fix, which it did), but after the restore (many hours later) I noticed I had dozens of apps with an iCloud/Down arrow icon in the name. https://i.redd.it/ufiaoanjas411.jpg If you tapped on the app icon, it would then report that the app is not available in the App Store (even though it is). https://i.redd.it/ph0q0nwnas411.jpg I've never seen this happen before and was curious if others had. I tapped KEEP so I wouldn't lose track of the app. The solution was to one by one go to the App Store for each affected app, and redownload it manually. After that the icon in the name went away, and the app opened normally. All my data and accounts were intact after this. Was just a pain to have to do this one by one for 25+ apps. I'll be visiting my parents in a few weeks, and they want me to help upgrade all their devices. I'm always happy to do this as I'm only ever in the country to see them ever 2-3 years. I'm going to get them 8+'s, but trying to decide on storage space. After 3-4 years on their old phones, they've only hit around 30GB of storage. And around 5-10GB of that is messaged and attachments. I'm pretty sure I have them setup with Dropbox for photo offloading, but they don't seem to happy with this option. I know iCloud photos have come a long way, so I'm wondering if switching them both over to that would be the best overall experience? And if that's the case, then it seems the 64GB 8+'s would be plenty? My mom loves to look back through photos she's taken and download, but currently hates how Dropbox lets her do that. I don't use iCloud for photos, so I'm not sure how much better it would be? Thanks! [link] [comments]  |
