    Back and Forth on Sizes

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 08:52 AM PDT

    Hi All:

Today I am buying an iPad Pro, either the 10.5 or the 12.9. One minute I am 12.9, the next I am 10.5, just back and forth the entire time. To complement my iPad Pro, I have a 2017 15" MBP for heavy lifting like video editing, photo editing, development, etc. The iPad Pro will be my main "notebook" in college if you will, as well as acting like my TV, email machine, etc etc.

For students who are like me, notes with Apple Pencil, word documents, pdf math homework, etc. what size did you go with and why? Do you travel a lot, in and out of places, is the 12.9 too big for traveling, basically anything you can think of!

Question on using iPads for elementary school

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 12:32 PM PDT

My gfs school uses chromebooks in the classroom for some things but she's been interested in getting 2-3 iPads to take over some of the stuff they do that she finds tedious with the Chromebooks. I was going to surprise her and get them for her for next school year but had a question. Is there anything she can do or download in order to essentially lock the iPads so that the 3rd graders aren't able to go through and download things or mess with anything outside of what she wants them using? Not sure the IT department at her school would be of help so was looking to see if there's anything she can do herself. Also interested in hearing from any teachers who might be supporting themselves on their iPads in the classroom. Thanks.

I can’t believe how thin the iPad Air 2 is

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 05:28 PM PDT

Yeah, I know it is close to 4 years old, my Air is around 3 years having bought it in June 2015. At that time, I bought a thick honking case for it and it has been sitting in it throughout these last 3 years. Over that time, everyone in our family had got used to how it felt and how heavy it was. The case was falling apart and finally last week, we couldn't use it any more as it wouldn't hold the ipad properly. So, the ipad was naked for the first time since 2015. I was literally dumbfounded, it was so thin and light, it was almost like I got a new device.

I have got a new case though. This one is a flip and helps me keep the ipad propped up for watching videos. It's not as thick as the previous one but that magical feeling of having an object of beauty is gone.

App Suggestions: Writing notes with Mathematics

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 09:35 AM PDT

    Hi All

I'm currently using Notability for my college notes and my handwriting is the best and prefer typing notes rather than handwriting notes. I was just wondering if there was a notes app that is better for taking notes with math equations in. The text writing in that app is very limited and at the moment I'm better off with Microsoft word.

    app like myscript stylus?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 09:33 AM PDT

I noticed that the stylus input option is broken, only the emoji keyboard comes up now. I checked to find that the stylus app is now broken and discontinued. Is there a native way or another app that lets you input text with apple pencil? Sorry if theres something obvious right in front of my face but I spent a lot of time looking for a way to input text with apple pencil and can't make it happen.

    Tempered glass screen protectors

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 01:27 PM PDT

I am considering putting one on my wife's 2017 iPad. It's used for our son during travel, so he does bump it with things from time to time. It's a non-laminated screen, so the screen doesn't have a super amazing feel or anything. That's not an issue for us, but I know it tends to be for some.

I've been very pleased with the glass protectors on our phones, but I've never used one on an iPad. Thoughts? Suggestions?

    Looking for playlist video app.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 07:09 AM PDT

I bought MVP video player but what this app does it copy the video and makes it even bigger and take way to much space.

Is there an app that just loads videos from your camera roll and creates playlist so the autoplay? Without it needed extra space for the video like MVP ?

I think I have the worst iPad Pro luck!

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 12:48 PM PDT

started during April of this year.

First iPad Pro 12.9 inch 2016 screen separated because of a swollen battery.

Second iPad Pro was ghosting doing things on its own glitching out.

Third iPad Pro was discharging and not charging back up until I restarted discharging even further.

Now the 4th iPad that i just drove 2 hours today that was replaced is disconnecting from WiFi and reconnecting over and over again. Tried probably most troubleshooting steps over the phone and myself.

I even joked with the guy at the Apple store I hope this doesn't happen again with this replacement, and he laughed saying "No you should be fine." Lol! Should have checked this in store setting it up. Going back tomorrow! I feel like I'm iPad Pro cursed!!! :/

    LiquidText backup?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 05:11 AM PDT

I am exploring using LiquidText for reading and annotating PDF files but I can't find that it uses iCloud or any other cloud storage provider for backups. I would hate to create a lot of notes for different files and lose them should something happen.

Is my only option to periodically export each file to the cloud or am I missing something?

can someone with a 2015 ipad pro base-storage 12.9 do me a favor?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 06:27 AM PDT

Basically i want someone with a 12.9 first gen ipad pro to see what apple offers as trade in at https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in

I am currently at a crossroads. I wanted a 12.9 for work in january. I teach music and use my ipad all day to read and display sheet music and bigger screen would make it more enjoyable. told myself, ok ill just stick with my Air 2 until WWDC because everyone is saying new ipad in june. i dont want to get a ipad in january and then a new inticing one will be out in june. so i waited.

low and behold no new ipad in june. So now people are saying one with face id (thinner bezels?) is coming in september or october. So now i am in the same rut all over again. I could just keep using my air 2 all summmer and then maybe if a new one comes out in september ill get that. OR get the 2017 12.9 Pro and use it, but then if a new one comes this year and its super sick and i want to upgrade, i will lose a few hundred $ selling/trading in to apple the 12.9 i get NOW, towards the hypothetical new one in sept/october.

So i am curious what someone with 12.9 FIRST GEN will get from apple at that link, so to better help me understand how much i will get for my 2017 12.9 when the gen 3 comes out, IF i decide to go this way. thanks!!

Getting Google contacts onto the Ipad address book?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 09:24 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

My mom has an older Ipad (2012) version, but it is up to date. I'm not really computer saavy so I figured I'd ask on here if that's okay. My mom wants to put her Google email contacts into the regular ipad desktop address book, how would she do that? Do you need to manually add them all, or switch them over?

    Thanks!

    iPad 6th gen storage

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 05:27 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying the new iPad mostly for taking notes and reading. The thing is that I'm a broke af student and can barely afford the cheapest version. From a tech standpoint buying the 32gb version is the most ridiculous desition I could ever make. But bc I'd love to save £100 I want you to convince me that it is possible to use an iPad comfortably with a mere 32gb taking in to account that I'll just be reading books and streaming video. Is there something I'm missing here? Do apple products accumulate crap and run out of storage quickly?

Good Idea to buy a used iPad pro 12.5 with only 3 months of warranty left?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 08:16 AM PDT

I saw a good deal on an iPad Pro 12.9 (2nd Generation) and it is in perfect condition from the outside and internally I think too. But it only has 3 months of the 1 year warranty left. It was originally not purchased in an Apple Store but in a certified store if that is important. Can I like get a check to see if there are any problems I can't see in order to repair before warranty is gone?

ipad pro 10.5 or pixelbook for 2nd device upgrade

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 04:49 PM PDT

I currently have a docked laptop for work as the main device, and a second chromebook plus for note taking/meetings/travel/gaming.

I'm looking to upgrade the CB+ to be faster/more capable and am trying to decide between the ipad pro and pixelbook. My biggest limitations on the CB+ currently is speed in opening/editing/switching between spreadsheets, stability when having multiple apps (excel, outlook, onenote) open, and OneNote functions on the android app.

I think the ipad pro gets the advantage in terms of note taking/mobility for travel. But the pixelbook may be a better all-around device with a desktop browser and better keyboard. I'm also interested in the upcoming expanded linux functionalities (steam?).

Thoughts? Any Real-world experience with the ipad pro smart keyboard/touch combo for manipulating spreadsheets - is it okay or totally limited to dire situations only?

I'm also more invested into the android app system (pixel xl as my phone), and understand posting in the ipad sub may lead to some biased responses as well.

    File Provider Storage?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 03:58 PM PDT

I just tried to drag a Scrivener file from the Files app to the Documents app, and it wouldn't let me. It came up with the message that I don't have permission to access file provider storage.

    What does this mean?

Is there any kind of workaround that would allow me to get my Scrivener project into Documents?

Looking for advice regarding a transition from android

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 03:46 PM PDT

Hello, I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and I wanted a faster experience. Google's abandon of android tablets and the severe lack of any reasonable options made me unwillingly consider the "forbidden fruut". I got these questions if you could help me: How bad is the memory management on the 2GB iPad 2018? I am used to leaving an app open and then coming back to still find it there in the same state I left it. How do those "tweaked apps" work? Is it possible they'll stop working after a system update? I use a modded youtube application on Android for the background playback function, and I'd dislike losing that. The other thing I couldn't find much info on is the file manager. Does one actually have access to their file locations on their devices? Can apps (like ebook/comic/manga readers) access files from the internal storage? Can I just view the darned pdf uni courses without doing some sort of irrational procedure (like sharing between apps). Is it still possible to load files on the internal storage without having to synchronise everything through iTunes? I actually have a lot more questions, but this post is getting pretty long, and these are my main dealbreakers. Thanks for the understanding.
