Apple Macbook Buy the 2017 model or wait?

Buy the 2017 model or wait?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 11:25 PM PDT

I am going to university now in about 2 months. I was wondering if the MacBook Pro from 2017 will be almost as good as the one Apple will release in a couple of months? Or will it be so many new features that it is with the wait?

How Do I Get My Calendar on Mac to Look Like Craig's?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 02:48 PM PDT

I was watching WWDDC18 and saw the calendar layout the Craig had up on. How do I get this? Is it only a Mojave feature? Because it looks super cool! Thanks!

Ever see this before?! Colorful static randomly occurs every now and then when i open up my 2017 MB, and then just goes away after about 20 seconds showing the log in screen as if nothing happened.

15 inch 2017 Macbook Pro A1707 LCD damage with no physical damage

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 11:19 AM PDT

I have half year old MacBook, today after closing the lid for daily walk, after coming back, the left side of the LCD panel has stopped working, and is distorded, I don't know what this kind of damage is called, but its the kind what happens when you warp the screen or push it hard enough.

    https://i.redd.it/rjwc0uvu9f211.jpg

I have never dropped my macbook, nor did I today, nor have there been any chance that it has been physically hit by anything nor anything like that, as it has been kept in such place that I could not have accidentally touched it without noting, and there was nobody else, who could have done anything to it.

Can this kind of damage be a manufacturing fault and why would it surface this late?

I was doing heavy work I.E. working on blender before I shut the lid, so the only guess I have is that the lid has been warped by heat or something. What could this be? I can't reach the store where I bought this from, until tomorrow, and would like some support or stress relief.

High Sierra taking 56 gb of space on a 128 gb MacBook Pro 2017 - advice?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 08:59 AM PDT

I honestly regret purchasing this laptop so much, I wish I had gone for the 256 or 512 GB instead. I have 38 GB of free space remaining, I don't even have a lot of apps or documents. High Sierra is taking 56 GB of storage and I have no idea why, I also do not have any backups or previous snapshots saved.

I bought this laptop from the US, and in 2 months' time I'm moving to the US for college this fall. Would it be a good idea to sell this model and go for a refurbished/used one (either through Swappa or Amazon) with more storage? I'm worried it will lose it's value in 2 months - and I do not have any other replacement. Any advice?

    Choosing laptop for college

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 08:31 AM PDT

Hello! I am starting college this August and have the opportunity to choose a laptop from a few options. I am currently debating between the macbook pro with 128 gb ssd and the macbook air with 256 gb ssd. The storage amount cannot be changed. From what I've read 128gb is not enough storage but the pro is a better laptop.

I will be a heath science major and will be usibg the laptop for writing papers, netflix, etc, nothing too extreme. Would I be ok with 128 gb and the macbook pro for college or would the air and 256 gb be better?

Using MagSafe 85W on Mid-2011 11'' MacBook Air

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 12:13 PM PDT

I've been told and read everywhere online that its fine and that the Macbook only takes the energy it needs from the charger but that's not my question

my question is do 85W MagSafes use more electricity than the 45W? Will my electricity bill go up? Or is it again just using whatever power the Macbook needs.

    Thanks

Macbook air - water spill advice

    Posted: 06 Jun 2018 05:30 AM PDT

I spilled about a tablespoon of water on my Macbook air keyboard on Monday, it was while I was watching Netflix and the Macbook didn't freak out or anything with the spill. Anyway I wiped away the water, turned it off, ran home to flip it upside down, bought a load and rice and chucked it in a box. Left it to dry and am on it now (almost 48h later), it's working perfectly fine - all keys working, sound fine etc.

I feel like I'm in the safe zone, but 'm just a little concerned because my friend said when she did the same, her Macbook worked for a few hours and then crashed. Hers is an ancient Macbook pro though, from 2011 I think, not sure if that makes a difference. Should I be taking further measures to protect it, or carry on using it and see how it goes? I kinda need to use it because I have an exam on Friday and need it to study, but I can get around that if I need to.
