In MacOS Mojave You Can Now Mess Up Your Desktop!

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 05:18 AM PDT

On MacOS, if you go to your desktop and secondary-click, you can see the option to "Clean Up", which neatens up the placement of your icons. What's new in MacOS Mojave is the ability to mess up your icons!

Simply secondary-click and hold option down to reveal the new functionality!

    Here's a demonstration:

Apple: PLEASE restore the original functionality of the media player buttons in macOS Mojave. I'm so sick of unintentionally unpausing some media in Safari when I'm clearly interested in listening to iTunes only.

Why did Apple get out of the monitor business?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 09:02 AM PDT

I've been a Windows user all my life, but am now for the first time thinking whether my next computer will be a Mac. Whether or not that will be the case will depend largely on what the next MacBook Pro and Mac Pro will look like.

However, I remembered looking at Apple Cinema Displays and how nice they looked in the past - and had to find that Apple now only offers the LG UltraFine 4K/5K displays anymore, but seems to have entirely left the standalone desktop monitor market.

Can anybody explain why that is?

This, and the sore neglect of the Mac Pro line doesn't exactly inspire confidence in Apple's dedication to the Mac Pro target user base.

Holy sh*t, the HomePod is amazing!

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 12:03 PM PDT

I just got myself an HomePod today and I am already in love with it. The sound quality is even superior than my 2.1 Teufel audio speakers that I hooked up to my computer. The volume is astonishing at half the volume my desk starts to vibrate lol. I couldn't get it to full volume as that would be too loud. I am quite impressed by it's abilities too, even I just started using it, but I'm sure I will discover more and more features over the time. I love the tight integration with all my Apple devices, like every iOS device is a remote too, not matter if it's an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch I can control the volume and tracks with them, now that's what I call magic or ecosystem. I am also quite impressed with 'Hey Siri' she always hears me. My iPhone and iPad had quite the problem with hearing me and I always needed to repeat Hey Siri on them, but with the HomePod it's alright. Siris bilingually also improved. In the past German Siri was really bad with English title songs, but no more she understands a lot of English words and that makes the experience so much better, without constantly switching languages.

The sound quality just blew me away and I am looking to get a second HomePod as soon as possible to get that stereo HomePod setup. I have one negative point though, what Apple took so long to get HomePod to Germany, but better late than never I guess. Anyone whose undecided to get the HomePod I just can say go for it, I'm sure you will be enjoying them too. They are well worth the cost.

    Questions about iMac 4K 2017

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 11:51 PM PDT

I want to buy the iMac 4K (3.4GHz, Radeon 560). My country does not have an Apple store and I cannot upgrade the processor or SSD through Apple, only the i5, 8GB, 1TB Fusion drive is available for me. How easy is it to upgrade these components myself? Also if I choose not to upgrade, is the base model 3.4GHz i5 suitable for editing 4K video and light gaming?

I love swiping up and to the right on my iPhone X to reveal my open apps. It would be so cool if swiping up and to the LEFT revealed control centre

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 11:23 AM PDT

We already kind of know what this feels like on iPad, where swiping up not only reveals your open apps but also the control centre simultaneously. It seems like such a natural progression to have this on iPhone. In my opinion it would make accessing control centre so much more enjoyable, as it would remove the need to stretch one's thumb to the top of the screen.

Had flashback to this pre-installed game (c. 2003). Thought you nostalgia fiends might appreciate.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 10:47 AM PDT

The game is Deimos Rising. Here's a play-through.

If my memory serves correctly, it came pre-installed on the iMac G4. I LOVED this game. I remember finding the aesthetics of it so tasty... like... I would literally get hungry playing this game.

If anyone has any ideas on how to run it on 10.11.6 or later, I'd love to hear.

How would ARM chips in Macs work in terms of architecture?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 06:49 PM PDT

Reading a news article about the possibility of Apple A-series chips powering Macs in the future got me wondering: would this be another PowerPC-to-Intel-like switch?

I imagine something like Rosetta wouldn't be feasible to implement to emulate an x64 environment. I wonder how this would work out. Thoughts?

What is the difference in buying HomePod at BestBuy or Apple Store?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2018 11:27 PM PDT

The HomePod at the Apple Store is 350 while the one at BestBuy is 300, is there anything I receive at the Apple Store that I wouldn't at BestBuy? Or is there zero difference and it's just on sale?
