I wrote a native SoundCloud App for macOS because I hate that Electron crap and wanted to know why everyone hates AppKit.

    Can't update to 10.13.3

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 12:18 PM PDT

Mac Mini 2010 with SSD and 4GB RAM

    Currently running 10.13.1

I keep getting the prompt to update to 10.13.3 - I click to install, it downloads the file, reboots, then after it appears to apply to update it restarts, and I get the message 'some updates could not be installed automatically' - and it remains on 10.13.1

    Same issues as here

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8264739

i've even tried to download the combo update from here https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1953?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

    Exact same result.

    any ideas?

Any Safari extension similar to "Don't F**k With Paste"?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 02:57 AM PDT

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dont-fuck-with-paste/nkgllhigpcljnhoakjkgaieabnkmgdkb?hl=en I find out about this by accident after searching why websites disable paste for password fields, but I really, really want this functionality because I'd rather use a password manager. Anything similar on Safari? My Google-fu has failed to find anything.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know where I can get an ISO for installing an old version of Mac OS X or even something like System 7 or Mac OS 8/9, or if it is even possible to find an official copy

Can I keep all my music on iCloud only and use iTunes?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 01:16 PM PDT

So, last year I made a move from PC to MacBook. That resulted with going from 2TB of storage to 256GB. Most of the things I had on my HD are fine on external HD anyway, I dont need any of that every day. However, I have about 1TB of music, or even more. So far, I was just copying over few albums at the time and loading them to my iPhone (128GB). That is quite annoying, cause very often I wanted an album xyz and I had to go over to grab my external HD, connect it, copy it to my Mac and then load it into iTunes.

Now, obviously I dont have enough space for all my music on my Mac. But is there a possibility that I would keep it all in the iCloud storage? I'm happy to pay for 2TB as long as I could just have all my music showing up in iTunes but not taking any space of my Macs internal HD.

Hope I explained it clear enough! Thanks.

Looking for an app to sleep / wake external drives

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 12:31 PM PDT

I have a Mac Mini with 120GB SSD installed and a 500GB External HDD connected by USB. Problem is the external HD spins constantly (or is it a fan?) whenever its connected so the sound is annoying as the mini is otherwise silent.

Is there an app or command I can use to sleep the usb drive on demand? At the moment I have to eject it, then plug it back in again when I need it. I was hoping for a util that could do this without having to eject and plug in. Or maybe another way to stop the constant whirring?

Gonna switch from Linux/Windows to MacOs/MBP: Some questions

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 05:27 AM PDT

Hey, I am thinking about getting a MBP but have some question:

    • Does MacOs support window tiling?

    • How much does the encryption of the FS slow down your system.

    • Can I customize the appearance of MacOS? (Im a fan of darker themes)

    • Concerning to other MBP 2016/2017 battery life varies between 4h and 9h. I also found reports of users who exchanged their MBP and got a significant better battery life which looks to me like Apple has Monday products as well. Can you confirm this?

    • Touchbar "looks" nice, but I miss the haptic feedback: If I touched the bar, I might accidentally pressed a touchbar-icon. Being developer and consultant I use my F-keys many times... I am concerned the Touchbar is not made vor efficient usage more as a nice gimmick. (Actually I rly wonder why they replaced it with the F-keys-row instead putting it on top of it.) How do you use it?

    • The ridiculous large touchpad: To be honest, I cant see any advantage here. I am more concerned about the palm detection: How many times did you accidentally moved/clicked while typing?

Context matters: Please tell me how you are using your Mac (device & role, e.g. "MBP 2016 & Developer for iOS", "iMac 2017 & Webdesigner")
