I got to play with the iPhone X for 1 hour, perspective from a visually impaired user.

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 08:44 PM PDT

I got to play with the iPhone X, some thoughts:

speed: incredibly fast, just like my SE. switching apps was far more responsive on the X, tho…

Haptic feedback, wow. What apple has done here is impressive. The phone gives you a tap instead of a vibration. The vibrations don't feel overwhelming, unlike my SE, which feels like its going to vibrate my hands off, or make my desk feel like its going to come apart at any moment. Can't believe other phone companys haven't stolen this yet.

3d touch, my phone feels old and outdated now. Its so amazing to me that I can start a new document on pages from my home screen. And open the app by putting more pressure on it.

sound: full, loud, and no distortion. Good as always.

other comments: siri was faster here than on my iPhone SE. wifi also worked better, and the side button just feels natural to use, unlike some others have reported. Not a big fan of the gestures for accessibility users like myself.

Why isn't the app swiping feature consistent between iPhone X and iPads?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 04:06 PM PDT

And by app swiping I mean how we can change to the previously used app on an iPhone X by swiping the homebar. The same can be done on an iPad by using 4 finger swipe gesture.

But on an iPhone X as soon as we interact with an app or a few seconds pass, the app order changes to make the current app the right most. However, on the iPad no such thing happens.

Does this annoy anyone else? Kinda weird that the same(ish) feature on both the devices with the same iOS version doesn't work the same way.

If iOS dropped the version number moniker, what would the new version be called?

Apple News feature request— allow me to subscribe to individual topics in a magazine, instead of the whole thing

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 04:56 PM PDT

Specifically I've been trying to subscribe to Time Health, because I love the articles. I'm Aussie, so I don't give a flying fuck about most of the stuff on Time Magazine— it's geared towards Americans.

Already my media is oversaturated with American news, which I don't mind a little of- but I try and reduce it where possible. Most of Time Health's articles are universally applicable.

This is really what's been stopping me from adopting the News app.

And no, don't say subscribing to the "Health" topic is enough. There's only so many health articles from ninemsn I can possibly take before my brain turns to mush.

Did this company cheat the App Store charts?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 03:02 PM PDT

I went to check out some new games and found this foreign app was #3? I've never heard of the app or the company before, and I guess neither have the rest of the world (see the "no ratings" screenshot). Does any one know if they cheated their way to the top or is it just a glitch? https://imgur.com/a/1t5Bh/

    vertical stripe on macbook

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 11:13 PM PDT

hello. i have a macbook pro 13 inch retina display w/o the touch bar. a month ago i found a faint vertical stripe one day when i opened my macbook. i thought it would just go away after a couple days, but it's still here. i've noticed that the intensity of the bar differs from day to day, and that whenever i kinda twist the screen of my laptop the vertical bar flickers with a bunch of random colors. anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

    here's a picture of it https://imgur.com/a/KEkLW

Is there any way to extract data that I need from a backup instead of extracting everything?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:40 AM PDT

Basically, I want to restore all my photos, apps (along with their data), notes etc. Just as it is now, but I want my phone's system files to be clean like a new phone. Is this possible?

What do you guys think of the 2014 MacBook Air?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 03:18 PM PDT

Specifically for light school work and Netflix. The 4gb's of ram and the i5 I would think would hold up. Just wanted to stay away from getting A cheap windows laptop for 50 bucks less than a refurbished air.

Mac app to track bandwidth (up/down)?

    Posted: 24 Mar 2018 06:45 PM PDT

Is there an app out there that allows me to track bandwidth up/down from my Mac?

I want to avoid overage charges on my internet plan so having an app to actually track incoming/outgoing bandwidth would be incredibly helpful.

I use Little Snitch and it does have a network monitor but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to track for a specific timeframe (ie: monthly)

Changes to embed YouTube video on iPad

Has anyone noticed that embed YouTube videos on iPad no longer use the native iOS player. Did they change this to prevent picture in picture viewing without YouTube red?
