Putting the “DND” button and the “iPhone locator” button next to each other, in my opinion, is a bad idea. Whenever I’m in a quiet setting, trying to enable DND, I’m always worried I will mistakenly cause my iPhone to ring out loud.

Just learned that you can add ‘Smart Playlists’ to the Apple Watch and they will update on their own.

    S1 vs S3 Battery life

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 07:23 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

Just purchased a 42mm S1 a couple weeks ago for a little over $200 new.

My battery life has been pretty good, I usually take it off the charger around 530 am and when I go to bed around 10 pm, I'm still at 75%. This is with pretty basic usage, some texts, email, no workouts or streaming music.

Ive seen a lot of posts touting the battery life on the S3 and I was curious if the battery on those does much better than my S1? It seems that a lot of people jumped from the S0 to the S3, so maybe that's why it seems like such a significant difference?

Since I'm still in my return period I'm thinking about upgrading, but wonder if there will be a significant difference in my battery life. I would obviously gain waterproof and GPS as well.

Would love to hear some insight.

    Steps tracking during cycling workout

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 06:46 AM PST

Hi all, quick question: are we supposed to track steps during a cycling workout? If so: I went for a 1-hour intense ride and my iPhone (in my pocket) accumulated 7,600+ steps; do the iPhone and AW know not to take the steps into account when calculating calories burned? Thanks.

4 Rollerskiing & Heart Rate (HRM) Lock [X-Post with /r/xcountryskiing, sort of]

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 04:13 AM PST

By means of background - I am/was a competitive distance runner. Not professional level, but I ran collegiately, low 2:30s in the marathon, 30 min 10k, etc. For some reason, running has just sort of lost its appeal for me (or, perhaps, skiing has regained an appeal), and I'm still antsy without activity, so I'm started roller skiing again (haven't since high school, when I skied competitively). Trying to get out 4-5 times/week, with running supplementing. This just to say - I at least understand the merits of heart rate training and have a generally good feel for what a good workout is, and what isn't!

One thing I notice is that my HR, when skiing, tends to be really low - at least, as recorded on my Apple Watch. On an easy 45 min jog, it generally reads around 160-165, but yesterday I went out and skied 75 minutes (~14 miles) and averaged 108. Now, I am in Illinois, so there are basically no hills, but I still worked on some V2 form and threw in a few (short) repeats. It certainly felt like a decent effort.

Is it possible that I'm really not getting the workout I think I am? We never used HRM in high school training (or collegiate running) but with all the data accessible to me on Apple Watch, I've just started noticing it!

Added since that post: The friendly skiers over in that sub seem to think it's optical heart rate lock. That seems reasonable to me. So my question to more Apple Watch specific users are - is there a way around it? If not, can I interface in a chest strap? Here's one reading for a weekend ski: https://i.imgur.com/Zz98rLL.png. Thanks!

Well, just found out the hard way that my Apple Watch can accidentally dial 911.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 09:37 PM PST

Laying on the couch and it made some siren noise. I looked down and doesn't say anything. A second later it acted like it was on a call. Fucking dialed out to 911. Commence shitting my pants moment until they immediately called back and I had to tell them that my Apple Watch is a dumbass narc. WTF? Immediately googled how to turn that shit off.

About to get S0 replaced...need advice.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2018 04:56 AM PST

I have an appt at the Genius Bar today at 12:30 to get my S0 replaces under the battery swell warranty. As I presume the S0 is no longer being manufactured, will they give me a S1 or a refurbished S0? If the refirb, how do I tell them no, I don't want a watch that was needing to be fixed in the past?

Also, mine is silver aluminum, am I able to get the black aluminum instead because it's the same price?

How do I customize a screen to get more complications

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:04 PM PST

I would like to use all four corners for links to: mail, messages, calendar, music and if I can fit them bottom or top center, activity and Overcast. The faces that I can choose from on my phone typically have only three customizable icons.

[Question] Newbie on Apple Watch, thinking on getting one mainly for swimming. Need some help!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:20 PM PST

Hey guys, first time posting here. After some long months of intense (somewhat obsessed, not proud of it) research about what smartwatch/fitness tracker should I buy, I finally decided to go with the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS only)

Summing up my plan of usage would be: Go for a swim at least 3 times a week for 1 hour. The rest of the week I plan to wear it as a normal watch. I don't plan to have notifications or any messaging interaction on my watch.. as I'm trying to cut down wasted time on social network stuff. I wanted to know my overall activity, heart rate and so on. Sure if any cool app shows up I might give it a try, like a productivity app, for instance.

I have so many questions, but I'll try to narrow it down in some topics:

    • I have a narrow wrist, (170 mm), I'm 1.88 tall and 70kg. What you guys think would be a good fit? I tried at the store briefly and the 38 seems pretty nice.. but the 42 doesn't also look so bad. I didn't had much time because the store was super crowded and the apple assistants wouldn't get off my feet. I don't like bulky watches and I work the whole day at the computer.

    • Continuing about the size.. is there much a difference regarding battery life on the 38 compared to 42? From your experience and taking a look of what I would be using the watch for.. would you guess how much it would last? a day tops?

    • I'm confused on how should I used it for swim. Does my phone needs to be close to the pool? Do I need to manually "start a swim workout" on the watch? I'm not a big swimmer so I have to stop to rest.. how does the watch handle that? Couldn't find much.. all posts are from people that can swim a lot non-stop.

    • If any of you use the watch for swimming, can you maybe tell the difference between wearing the 38 vs 42 mm in the pool? I don't want to have a massive thing on my arm while swimming.. but I also don't want to struggle trying to set up stuff in the pool in a small screen.

So, as you can see I'm pretty lost and confused, lol. Sorry for the big post.. any help will be much appreciated. If it would be cheaper I would just not worry and give it a try.. but it's freaking 399 € for the 42 mm. Just don't want to buy it and become disappointed later.

Lost a perfect 2018 day streak... because of travelling west over the dateline.

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:19 PM PST

I was given a 38 mm series one as a gift yesterday. I can’t seem to find any large, tactical looking rugged bands. Anyone have a suggestion?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 11:27 AM PST

I'm a guy. I have 42mm watch. I tried on a 38mm today at BestBuy. I didn't dislike it. Anyone think the 38mm might prevent accidental button presses?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 05:11 PM PST

First off, I have no idea how it happens. I've looked and I don't understand it, but when I do a pushup, or if I'm sitting on the ground and create a 90 degree angle with my hand/wrist and forearm, it somehow presses in the crown button and activates Siri, and it's really annoying. It only happens occasionally, but I was thinking the 38mm might prevent this. Who knows. I don't think I can disable Siri by holding down the crown button

Help! Audio won't play on headphones

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 03:55 PM PST

Overcast or Pandora won't play audio on the headphones connected to the watch... They both start playing on the iPhone. Is this what is supposed to happen? How do I listen to podcasts without having my phone with me?

Apple Watch adoption climbs 56% year over year to become global favorite, Fitbit takes sharp dive

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 02:48 AM PST

IDC's report shows Apple as the global leader in wearables for Q4 2017 with 8 million units shipped. Fitbit came in a relatively distant second place with 5.4 million sales.

Apple also took the number one spot for 2017 sales overall with 17.7 million units. Xiaomi took the number two spot with 15.7 million for the year.

The most impressive part about Apple Watch sales is the estimated 57.5% YoY growth for the holiday quarter and 55.9% YoY growth for 2017. This data lines up with a Canalys report we saw last month and tracks with the vague details Apple shared during its last earnings call.

Decisions...Upgrading from Original Apple Watch to Series 3 (selling bands, models, etc.)

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 02:38 PM PST

TL:DR Looking to upgrade from space black original apple watch series 3. Should I get space black again or just go for the space grey? Recommended screen protectors? Any luck selling space black link bracelet?

I currently have the 42 mm space black original apple watch with the space black link bracelet. Ordered it the day the watches were released and have used it almost every day since. Lately I have noticed many of the functions of the watch have begun to be unusable. The watch can't even handle the siri animation without lagging (also stutters and fails when asking questions), workout app takes up to 2-3 minutes to load (if it crashes, which it does a decent amount, you'll be waiting close to 10 minutes to reboot), and the battery fails to last the entire day more and more often.

I've been looking into getting the series 3, and wondering what people's experience switching from the original watch to the S3 has been like? I know apple doesn't advertise it, but has anyone noticed an improvement in heart rate reliability/accuracy? I use it a lot for working out. I also don't care about the LTE. Almost always have my phone.

Also wondering if I should go for the space grey sport or go for the space black watch again. If I go with the space grey sport, have any of you had any luck selling the space black stainless steel strap? I find I prefer wearing the sport band and rarely end up using the SB SS band. I also hate screen scratches, anyone know of good screen protectors?

Or should I wait for series 4?

Looking forward to hearing your opinions :)
