AirPods’ batteries have degraded a lot in just a year. 50% battery drains in just 10mins of talk time

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:02 AM PST

These tiny batteries degrade particularly fast. Originally it could last close to 2hrs of phone call, and now mine dies in literally under 30mins.. music playback lasts less than 2.5 hours

    How are yours holding up?

Apple confirms HomePod leaves white rings on wood surfaces

Suggestion: After taking a screenshot in iOS 11, there should be an option to swipe right on the pop-up icon to delete.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 05:50 PM PST

I have found myself constantly taking accidental screenshots (iPhone X), whether it be while putting on/taking off a case, or just trying to press the power button. At the moment there is an option to swipe left, which just dismisses the window and saves the photo, while swiping right does nothing. I think swiping right should delete the photo, saving a lot of wasted storage and time.

Apple's shipping is insane. My order arrived 16 hours after I placed it.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 09:49 AM PST

I ordered a refurb Macbook around 4:30 pm and it was on my doorstep before 11am for just an $8 expedited fee.

Edit: lots of people commenting about fedex/ups doing most of the legwork. That's totally true, but how many companies will actually hand off the package the same day after 4pm?

PSA: The HomePod Will Not Unlock Your Doors

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 08:44 AM PST

Just a little heads up to any HomePod owners or people interested in the HomePod. Maybe you are aware and if so, ignore this. However, if not...the HomePod will not unlock your smart locks. This is due to security reasons. AKA, someone yelling "SIRI, UNLOCK THE FRONT DOOR" from outside your home.

TIL tapping the date at the top of an open note shows when it was created, as well as last edited.

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 11:02 AM PST

Found this out by accident! I use notes pretty heavily and always wished there was a way to see when a note was created. Works on macOS too.

Just tried this, works perfectly. Stereo linked HomePods (or any other airplay speakers). Tested with Pink Floyd's Money, the ultimate stereo test.

Has anyone tried streaming to a HomePod from an android device?

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 06:27 PM PST

I know you can't set the HomePod up from a 'droid but you can get apps which allow airplay streaming.
I'm just thinking it would be nice for friends to be able to play their music when visiting.

Apple Music can be Playing Simultaneously on Multiple Devices

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 09:05 PM PST

I bought HomePod tonight to celebrate my lonely Valentine's Day. And a question popped up in my mind:

AirPlay 2 promises we can play two different songs on two devices. But Apple Music used to limit you to play music only on one device, with warning like "Apple Music is playing on another device".

It seems the limitation is gone: https://i.imgur.com/5miSIZH.png

When did it change? Any idea?

Is it possible to be banned from the Apple online store? Weird story...

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 02:27 PM PST

I have been really wanting a 2017 MacBook Pro. I can't justify the price. I have ordered a refurb machine 3 times for in-store pickup but have cancelled it every time after feeling guilty a day or two later for spending too much money on something I don't need. I've never picked it up or even gone to the store.

Now, whenever I click the Apple certified refurbished store's MacBook section it says "Sorry there are no products available, please check back later.". If I click the blue "Buy" button on Apple's main page it says "The page you're looking for can't be found."

Here's the kicker: in a different browser or in incognito mode? Absolutely no problem. Loads instantly as normal.

So, have they decided to ban me from impulse buying MacBooks? I don't even blame them, just curious.

Transfer music from iPhone to HomePod

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 04:58 PM PST

Why can't I currently listen to music on my iPhone using my Apple Music subscription and have it transfer to my HomePod as soon as I come home? I feel like this is a much needed feature for the HomePod...Thoughts?

Anybody here use LaTeX? Considering an iPad pro, but the ability to edit and compile LaTeX documents will be a make or break for me

    Posted: 14 Feb 2018 06:57 AM PST

For background, I'm in acedemia. The iPad pro looks like a great on the go solution for me (mainly reading and writing papers), but I'm just curious about the current state of LaTeX editors and compilers
