Went to Apple Park, and photographed it – with an iPhone X, of course.

I had a chance to visit the new mothership, so I thoroughly snapped it with the iPhone X. It's absolutely awe-inspiring. Hard to convey through images.

It's not entirely open, and there's parts that you obviously can't photograph, but these shots should give you a good look at the inside and outside of the new spot!

    Here's the album!

The best new feature in iOS 11.3

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 09:48 PM PST

    This.

When you tap the red text in the Now Playing screen (Artist - Album), it now lets you select whether you want to go to the artist, to the album, or to the playlist.

This seemingly small feature is so helpful.

I'm hoping that Apple's next step is to clean up artist pages (better album organization plus consolidation of the Apple Music artist page with your library page for that artist). That plus this iOS 11.3 change will make the general flow and usability of the Music app so much better.

An absolutely fascinating take on the current situation at Apple as reported by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. Well worth a read.

EDIT: Steven originally shared it on Twitter via a series of tweets but you can also read it on Medium if you prefer at the link below. Thanks to /u/tamag901 for the link:

So are we just supposed to deal with out-of-order iMessages for another month?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 07:52 PM PST

I'm assuming at this point we won't get iOS 11.3 until March sometime. This iMessage bug is driving me insane. Both 1-on-1 chats and group chats are randomly appearing out of order. Does Tim Cook or Jony Ive have any fucking idea how maddening it is to be in a group chat with 10 people and everyone's replies are showing up jumbled? Like how long do we have to deal with this? Messages is literally the most used app on iOS. Does nobody at Apple give a flying fuck anymore?

Also, RAM management has been fucked up for months with no sign of a fix in sight. My iPad Pro fucking reloads apps like it has 512 MB of RAM. If this shit isn't fixed by the final release of iOS 11 I'm strongly considering selling all my Apple products and going back to Android. At least I can have a conversation without wanting to blow my brains out.

It's a waste we can't adjust HomePod volume by scrubbing the circular edges, a la the click wheel iPods.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 05:35 AM PST

edit: I imagine the -/+ buttons are still available; you have the option to tap or scrub. Since you can interact anywhere along the edges, adjusting volume is orientation-free and you don't need to look for buttons.

To help users discover this gesture, this could appear the first few times the volume buttons are tapped: https://i.redd.it/qg60v1q1j4g01.jpg

Just found out the shortcut to open the emoji keyboard on Mac: control + command + space! Maybe it's common knowledge, sorry in that case!

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 02:08 AM PST

I used to open that keyboard the long way. This method is way faster! 🙂

Preferably runs on a Mac. Inspired by this post which didn't have as much Mac software, what free software is so good you can't believe it's available for free?

TIL you can tap with 2 fingers on iOS 11’s video player and it will fast forward. Tap with 3 fingers and it will rewind.

As bad as Siri is on iPhone, she is utterly useless on the Mac.

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 04:01 PM PST

The only thing I can reliably ask her to do is set a timer in the kitchen. Can't quite manage that on the mac.

We need “Hey iPhone” in addition to “Hey Siri”

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 08:34 AM PST

With the HomePod's uncanny ability to hear me from even my bedroom, I can't talk to my iPhone because the HomePod just overrides it.

Device specificity is becoming more needed the more devices we add.

    HomePod software update Wishlist

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 10:15 PM PST

The HomePod has been out for almost a week now. Really curious to hear from other users what they'd love to see in future software updates.

As a speaker, it's definitely amazing in its sound quality, but some of the things I'd wish to see are the following:

    • Siri recognising multiple users
    • Not having to say "hey Siri" when you are asking a follow up question, e.g. what's the weather today? "It's 20 degrees this afternoon", hey Siri what about this morning?
    • when asking for the news just reading the bylines not using the podcast app
    • Easily connect with Apple TV -deeper integration of stock apps

I'm sure there are more things that bothers me about Siri, and I'm hopefully will see a major update for her at WWDC.

    Why would they do this?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2018 11:00 AM PST

It's really annoying when you're used to typing one way to then switch, go for the digit key, only to end up with a bunch of emojis in your face. Every damn time!
