iCloud Safari tabs not syncing to iPhone from Mac?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2018 12:37 AM PST

Running el Cap and iOS 11.2.5. I've tried trashing caches, restarting, pram reset and I've searched a bit. Tabs/History show on my iPhone from my MBP, but not the other way around. Any ideas?

    Firefox, Safari, Chrome?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 01:09 PM PST

I am in law school and spend ALOT of time on my computer. I have the fancy new MacBook Pro (which I almost wish I didn't have I miss my old one with the less clicky keyboard!) but that one kept crashing so I bit the bullet and got a new one before school started. I've always been a firefox user. Not exactly sure why, it was on my undergrad computers a lot and just seemed to like their brand and system. This recent update though I'm not sure how I feel anymore. I do what everyone does on the internet, watch a lot of streaming, word processing, legal research, and the like. I notice a streaming lag when using watch DirectTV, but it doesnt happen when i use things like Hulu or Netflix. Also not sure if it is significantly slower or faster than the other browsers. Just curious on everyone's opinions. I know a lot of people just have personal preference but I'm terrible at decisions and just wanted to throw it out there! I'm also not good with change so changing browsers seems like a life changing decision! First world problems am I right? I'm running on macOS High Sierra if that makes any difference.

    Pros? Cons? Your personal winner?

    Google Photos TO Mac

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 10:29 AM PST

Anyone have a good way to sync Google Photos to a Mac? I know Backup and Sync from Google handles transfers the other way. I would like to have a local copy, a la the old Picasa.

Why is it so hard to watch video now?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 03:36 PM PST

All I want to do is watch the live stream of my local news. I cant do that. I have turned off everything I can find, all content blockers, turned on flash, java, you name it. Nothing. The only site I can watch videos on reliably is youtube.

    Need Help in Upgrading Mac

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 04:02 AM PST

    I have a '13 Macbook Pro (13") 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB 750 GB SATA Disk

I was wondering if I shall update my OS (currently on Mavericks 10.9.5) to any newer OS. I've always been skeptical about the performance if I upgrade my Device. I just want to know peoples suggestions and if they have felt that their devices have improved its performance.

DAE have OneDrive @ 100% CPU all the time w/10.13?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:24 AM PST

Since upgrading to 10.13, I've been seeing OneDrive constantly @ 100% CPU? I use Office365, so it's nice to have, but I end up having to turn it off when not doing Office stuff where I want to use OneDrive.

I get it's not the greatest cloud storage, but it's convenient when switching back and forth from Mac<->iPad for docs.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this and been able to fix it? Once it's synced up, it really shouldn't be doing much, if anything.

    tia.

What's the general consensus in upgrading to the latest update (10.13.2, High Sierra)?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:14 AM PST

Using a Macbook Pro (retina, 13 in, mid 2014) and was thinking about upgrading. I don't really care about Photos or new Notes features or whatever, I'm more concerned about possible security problems and the issues with Finder/wifi crashing. I'm currently on 10.12.6 and have been having wifi issues where I'm connected to wifi but don't get internet, even though all my other devices connected to the same network work fine. Problem only "fixes" itself when I restart my laptop, and happens almost once every couple of days. (If anyone happens to have a fix for this, please let me know. Would be much appreciated!)

Are there any major problems associated with the latest update (10.13.2) where you wouldn't want to upgrade? My main reason for wanting to upgrade would be security and wifi fix.

    Thanks guys

Error installing json-server, msg: "try again as root/Administrator."

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 06:02 AM PST

I'm trying to install json-server from here: https://github.com/typicode/json-server

The install command is here: $ npm install -g json-server

it starts running and gives a bunch of errors and says to "try again as root/Administrator."

So I find this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204012 How to enable the root user on your Mac or change your root password

Follow the steps and it says to "Click Open Directory Utility."

I do that and it nothing happens. It has an empty space asking for the name of a server and says: "You can enter the address of an Open Directory Server or Active Directory Domain."

What is the name of the server? This is on my computer, so I have no clue what the name of the server is. When I click "Open Directory Utility..." it does nothing.

This is a programers utility to simulate a server on your desktop.

Where do I find the name or address of my server?

Here's the screen I'm talking about:

How much information is shared between user accounts?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 02:10 AM PST

I apologize if these kind of questions aren't allowed. The sidebar does not specify any rules against them, so I figured it'd be okay.

To expand on the title, assuming one administrator account (short: aa) and one non-administrator account (short naa):

    • Is the Apple ID of the 'aa' in any way connected with the 'naa' (assuming that the 'naa' is set up without any Apple ID)?

    • Can the 'naa'/'aa' see any of the files that the 'aa'/'naa' has downloaded, viewed, or otherwise used in any way?

    • Do programs installed by the 'aa' carry over to the 'naa'? If yes, do these programs remember what files where used by either the 'naa' or 'aa' (as in, if it has a "recent" tab will it show the same files for both the 'naa' and 'aa')?

    • When updating programs, I assume it has to be done through the 'aa'. Will it also update the program for the 'naa'?

    • If I connect an external drive while using the 'naa'/'aa', does the 'aa'/'naa' have any knowledge of that drive?

    • How is the amount of space each user has managed? Can I specify that the 'aa' should only have 20GB of space and leave the rest of the SSD for the 'naa'?

These might seem like stupid questions but I'm completely unfamiliar with the macOS eco-system. I do own an iPhone but I've only ever used it for calls, texting, and Facebook/Messenger.

While googling has given me a few results, they tended to be more vague than useful.

DVD drive noise exiting from stop, every time

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 02:59 AM PST

Hi guys, my 2012 MBP (pre-retina, with DVD drive) every time that exits from stop makes the "DVD drive noise", the same noise which happens on a cold boot. If i reset the PRAM the problem is fixed...for a while. Why? How i fix this problem for good? The drive is always empty. Thanks
