Buying a used Pro to replace my air

    Posted: 22 Jan 2018 12:37 AM PST

Hello everyone, I had a few questions because I am buying a used 2012 pro with the I5 tomorrow for $400 and am planning to sell my air after. I use my laptop for simple browsing and studying for school nothing crazy but I've found my air to be a little slow even after I've replaced the battery. I wanted to know peoples experience with the 2012 pros and also whats the performance jump if I were to upgrade the ram and the HDD to a SSD. Thanks!

    Major problems in macbook pro

What are the problems that you faced in your macbook pro 2017 (non touchbar). As sometimes I browse here and see some people faced problems in the keyboard. Is there any other problems?

    Strange battery issue on Macbook

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 06:20 AM PST

I got this Macbook air 2013 model in 2014, I can't complain, I'm done with apple phones but my next computer will be a mac.

Anyways, I had this weird issue. My cord broke so I bought a sketchy $30 charger on ebay, battery was already in shit condition but not too unbearable, could still watch porn without having to plug my macbook in. So a couple months later, I come home, see my cord sitting on the floor surrounded by salt from the ground and melting snow from leaving my shit lay around. The LED where it plugs in is flickering. I try to plug the mac in and it says "battery is not charging" and I have to leave it plugged in. It slowly decreases to about 4% over the next 2 weeks. Now, today, same cord, same computer, I see it spike up to 100% battery and I unplug it, over the course of 6 hours of youtube and soundcloud playing and using fb every now and then its only at 31%. I plug it back in and it says its not charging but plugged in.

So, whats going on with my macbook? Do I need a new charger? I know i need a new battery soon anyways, this is some crap tho.

Will 2013 Macbook Pro still be enough?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 02:42 AM PST

So I have an offer from a friend to buy his old late 2013 13" MacBook Pro with 2,4 GHz i5 processor, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. Even battery is in quite a good shape with "only" 500 cycles. And he's selling it for just 800 euros (a new MacBook Pro costs around 1600 euros in my country).

I'm a graphic designer so the question is: will it be enough for me and how long will it last? I use mostly Adobe Illustrator, sometimes Photoshop, less often InDesign and After Effects.

Small screen is no big deal for me as I have a 24" display anyway and mobility is also important to me.

I'm looking for something for the next 2 years, just so I can have a home office more often.

Right now I have an old Lenovo from 2014 and it's a pain in the ass. In the work I use 2011 iMac with pretty much the same specs as that Macbook Pro, just with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB flashdrive. And it sure is enough.

EDIT: Also I have iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, so I'm going to use it as drawing tablet and second screen for Macbook.

Currently Running 10.11.6, and going to upgrade my SSD. Worth it to upgrade to 10.12 or 10.13?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 02:38 AM PST

My 120SSD routinely gets full nowadays (I have a second HDD in the superdrive slot) and I'd like to get a 240gb drive, which i'll be cloning from time machine.

Now is as good a time as any to upgrade if, it's worth it. I mostly run adobe lightroom and terminal tools (brew, atom and other basic webdev stuff) on this machine. Am I going to have issues? Is it worth it? Will my life change? Should I not mess with what isn't broken?

I never use any of the cutesy notification system integrations since this is mostly a workstation for image editing.
