Why don't more people buy refurbished?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 12:57 PM PST

Seriously, not only do you get around $300~400 discounts, the entire outer shell of the product is replaced, plus the battery will be brand new.

If anything defects, there is a one year warranty to replace it for free. Not to mention you can get Apple Care for it too.

So basically it's a brand new device?

(Typing on a refurbrished 2013 15" rMBP that is still an absolute powerhouse)

Please help! Is this possible? My marriage depends on it re iwatch

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 03:45 PM PST

Please tell me if this is even remotely possible before i end my marriage. Found pretty damning messages on his Iwatch. It's obvious what they are and it was clear from the messages that he slept with someone a few days after new year. I'm heart broken. I confronted him immediately and he was very upset. I made him call the number in front of me but it said it was disconnected. He has almost convinced me that this is a glitch on his iwatch, that these are messages from way back before we were together and he has no idea why they would suddenly show up on his watch but not his phone. Is there even a tiny chance this could be true? Please help me, I'm heart broken. This is also my first time on reddit so please be gentle

    macOS is incredible

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:29 PM PST

Feel like this doesn't get said often enough on this sub with all of the issues we encounter.

I come from Windows 10 and then a custom linux distro, and macOS is so easy to use and so powerful. I just had this thought as it took me about three days to get printing working on Linux, and Windows just has a clumsy UI for it. On Mac it wasn't even a setup process, it was just there, it installed without having to tell me and it just printed. Amazing.

You guys have any "macOS is awesome" stories?

    A mindblowing Apple Support experience

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 03:34 AM PST

I've just had the greatest Apple Support experience that I wanted to share with you guys. I know a lot of people always say that Apple is not worth it's value but hot damn if this support experience doesn't show the opposite.

My loyal Apple Watch Series 0 (stainless) popped off its display last week after almost three years of every day usage (btw: feeling your phone vibrate again is a really strange experience).

Anyway I booked an appointment at my nearest Apple Store (Amsterdam) for my watch but I also brought some other Apple products that were behaving a bit iffy.

At the end of my hour at the genius bar, Apple not only replaced my Watch free of charge (battery was bloated). They also replaced my old iPhone 6 (that I use as a work phone) for the lowly price of 30 bucks. On top of that they even replaced my Airpods for free due to a strange connection issue.

So for the price of just 30 euros, I walked out of the Apple Store with a brand new Watch, a new iPhone 6 & new Airpods. And I don't even have Apple Care on any of those products.

Apple support is awesome. Just wanted to share.

What are your favorite optimized iPhone X Apps?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 07:53 PM PST

I just reviewed over 600 past purchases from the last 10 years and downloaded all I needed. To my surprise most of them are not optimized for my notch which I have come to love. Please recommend the best iPhone X apps regardless of the category or genre , thanks in advance team Apple.

    Apple maps

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST

Lately in an effort to use less google related stuff I've been using Apple maps all the time. And I must say aside from it getting a lot better over the years I do like the simplicity of it. I feel like it only really shows you anything extra when it's relevant. Otherwise it usually just shows the road your on making it much easier to use while driving at quick glances.

Which Apple App do you use daily?

I personally love the NOTES apps. I wish they would update the notes app and add more features like those found in Notability.

What Apple apps do you use and what changes would you like to see in them?

    Fusion Drive is absolutely embarrassing

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 06:59 PM PST

Got a new iMac and thought that I could roll with the Fusion Drive. Used one in store and everything was pretty responsive, needed to get a desktop sooner than later and went with the standard config of 4K 21.5" i5 3.4GHz 8GB RAM and the 1TB drive.

But damn is this thing slow compared to the SSD of my MacBook. Returning it tomorrow to get an iMac with an SSD... but I can't believe Apple still offers a spinning disk, let alone 5400RPM.

Bit the bullet. Getting the iPhone 8

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 07:58 AM PST

I have had my 128gb iPhone 6 for about 3 years now and it's best days are behind it. I had the battery replaced once about a year and a half ago, and recently bought the kit from ifixit to swap the battery myself. I did so and it worked well for about 4 days until the phone battery drained all the way when I was without my charger. When I plugged it in to charge, it got stuck in a boot cycle and only after attempting to reset the phone 5-ish Times it finally went on and stayed on.

I thought this was simply a fluke so I let it die again a few days later and it did the same thing. I've read mixed reports that this happens because something fried out in the digitizer, the front facing camera needs to be replaced, or the battery itself incorrect.

Apart from that, I did notice a speed increase when I put the new battery in, but I'm a week into having this new battery and it's already slowing down. So I decided to end the madness, and get the most modern iPhone so I can experience this "3D touch" nonsense, "raise to view," and experience having a phone that's water resistant.

What case is on your iPhone X?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:49 AM PST

I currently have a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Crystal Clear case on my phone. I'm not particularly fond of it because I don't like the clear case and seeing smudges. Looking to get a new case that is slim and has protection. Please put a link with your reply. Thanks!

    Downgrading Iphone 2g

Does anyone actually prefer the iPhone 8plus over the X?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:53 PM PST

I feel like I'm alone here, but I like the home button design iPhone.

Yes the x is nice but if apple was to make the iPhone 8 Plus with oled and reduce the forehead and chin bezel a bit, I would gladly pay a premium for it.

Does anyone here still like having a home button, or is the plus size iPhone X 2018 the way to go?

What is an easy way to ease into HomeKit?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 08:43 AM PST

I rent my home, so I don't want to invest too much money in permanent solutions to turn it into a "SmartHome". But I plan on getting a HomePod and I am curious about smart devices.

I am VERY ignorant in this area, sadly. I have heard something about Phillips Hue lightbulbs and that they may be "HomeKit" compatible. I assume this means I can say something to Siri like "change the lighting in the living room to warm" or something to that effect?

Are lightbulbs a good intro into the SmartHome world? What else should I look into as far as things that I could easily take with me one day instead of permanently installing in this home?

    AirPods while biking?

    Posted: 21 Jan 2018 03:06 PM PST

I bought AirPods about a week ago, and i love them. They fit perfectly in my ears, and haven't fallen out once yet.

I was wondering if any of you have been using AirPods while biking, or if they fall out because of the wind if you reach high speed.
