    Weekly Support Thread

Hello! Welcome to this weeks Weekly Support Thread

This thread is to help answer all of your simple questions, and keep /r/AppleWatch's front page clean! Got a simple question? Get a simple answer. It's as simple as that. The thread's been set to sort posts randomly to push all sorts of questions to the top.

Before you ask, please make sure you've checked out our wiki's troubleshooting guide, searched it on Google, or used our subreddit search feature (wow, who knew that was a thing)! If you can't find an answer, you want some further insight, or you're just lazy, feel free to post your question here.

    What can I ask?

If you've been asked to post your question here, then go ahead! Otherwise, if your question is one or two sentences long, and is pretty simple (such as asking for recommendations, apps, troubleshooting, app issues, etc), go ahead. If you need a lot more investigation, or you're asking for many opinions, go ahead and post it elsewhere (it may be removed if it's too simple, or it's deemed to be more suitable for here).

Does anyone use their Apple Watch as a Sleep Tracker?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:43 PM PST

One thing I miss from my Fitbit is the sleep data. One of the main issues with the Apple Watch for me is that the battery doesn't last about 3-4 days like my Fitbit Charge HR. What I am wondering is how are people able to charge their Apple Watches while wearing them throughout the day for daily activities and night for sleep tracking? When is there a time to charge the Apple Watch?

Currently, I have a series 0 watch. Do the later series have faster charging? I know there was another thread that if you leave your watch on theatre mode/turn off raise to wake, it significantly increases your battery life. I will try this out and see if it has any impact on my series 0 watch.

But to those who are using a sleep tracking app, when do you get to charge your apple watch?

SOLVED: Heart Rate not Recording Properly During Workouts

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:01 AM PST

    Original Post:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/comments/7m7nb0/why_do_my_workouts_never_have_enough_heart_rate/?st=JBWBXF7Y&sh=41dcd883

Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me a few days ago in the previous post.

The advice given worked so I'd suggest it to anyone else who has this problem! I had my watch basically on my wrist bone, and it wasn't recording it properly. I've since moved my watch about 2cm up my wrist so it's not on the bone anymore. It's way more comfortable here, and it solved the problem! I now get consistent, accurate heart rate readings both during workouts and while resting.

    Thanks!

Stand goal sadness — can’t wear watch to work. Any workarounds?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:57 AM PST

I can't wear my watch to work — corporate policy about microphone devices. The unfortunate result is I can never get my Stand goal. I'm going to try wearing the watch overnight in case I toss and turn enough to trigger it, but is there any other solution? All these Perfect Year posts and I've never gotten a perfect Week...

Does anyone else’s Series 3 have light visible from where the screen joins the frame?

Apple Watch didn’t give perfect week or month?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:15 AM PST

I have been working so hard to keep my streak going and close all my circles. This streak provides a lot of motivation for me. My last perfect week was awarded on the 24th. But all of last week I closed every circle again. However, no badge for month or week.

    Picture of my December

I thought maybe I thought all the circles were closed, but they definitely are.

I DID have to manually add a workout to get my stand circle closed, as my watch battery died early one day when I was nowhere near a charger. I didn't want to lose my streak so I added it in the activity app to count. But all circles were still closed by midnight.

Any advice? I know it isn't a massive deal but it's really annoying!!

Edit: to add to this mystery. My last move streak badge says "117 days earned on 29 December" but then also says current streak is 119 days. ????

    Best apps for the watch?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:02 AM PST

I am seeking apps that balance streamlined simplicity, and functionality. I have unfortunately run into a ton of apps that are bulky, and I just don't see myself using them for longer than a month. For an app to be long-term, it has to integrate with the watch extremely well.

My two favorite watch apps so far are AutoSleep, and Sleep Watch. I am currently using both. I do have to say that AutoSleep has WAY too much bulk, whereas Sleep Watch is almost perfect in its user interface. The only problem is that Sleep Watch is slightly less accurate than AutoSleep once I got tweaking the app.

Next up is HeartWatch. I have kept the app because I see promise... but it's super bulky, and I actually am not sure what its core function as an app really is. It rehashes the Activity bars again, so unnecessarily, and just has so much unnecessary bulk in every page. It seems to try to tell me all this info about my heart rate on 32 different page variants. But I think similar info could be cut down and presented much better (much like how Sleep Watch manages to do most of what AutoSleep does, but in a more intuitive way).

Are there any apps out there that you'd recommend, that really meet the grueling test of usefulness, streamlined design, and unquestionable functionality? Apps that you could see yourself using for a year+, that make a lot of sense, and don't labor the user unnecessarily? I'm still looking for a calorie/diet app to track food consumption, a workout app that uses timers and tracks sets/reps/etc for workouts, and generally other apps that are useful. Unfortunately I've uninstalled a lot of free stuff, and gotten refunds for 3 apps so far that I paid for (and the apps I paid for, I researched prior to purchasing, yet still my experience was so far from the reviews).

Two of the Apps that I had to be refunded for:

    • Super ToDo's : Location reminders didn't work, completely making the app worthless. "Simple" user interface was pointless, because it was simple but not for the sake of ease-of-use. Some vision-less app creator just took the "less is more" mantra, but forgot to make more out of less.

    • SmartGym : Froze on the watch 2 times in a row. Features were overly simplistic, and not useful on the user-end. Couldn't end rest times early in the app, so if I decided to begin a new workout set early, the app wouldn't count that set because I didn't rest for the preset length. Whoever made this app seems to have never actually worked out in their lives, or never uses the app in the gym in real life...

Different kind of countdown for me today. Second month with the watch but first month to close all rings. Feels great, can’t wait to do it again, and again, and again...
