Announcing my free and ad-free metronome app. Feedback welcome!

    Posted: 22 Jan 2018 11:57 PM PST

A while ago I saw the announcement of a metronome for Apple Watch and saw great feedback the subreddit members had left. So I thought I also ask for advice and feedback if you would like try my new watchOS metronome that solves the main problem the other metronomes have that they turn off after some seconds. The name of the app is Tapping Tempo and it can be found here on iTunes. I intend to keep it free and ad-free, and keep adding new features to both the watch app and the iPhone app. I've also made a simple website for the app here.

    Carrot Weather is a pain

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:59 AM PST

I bought Carrot Weather for my Apple Watch and then decided to buy the premium membership to get more compilation options and then to change other things you have to buy an ULTRAPREMIUM membership. What kind of bullshit is this?

    Workout App Very Laggy

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:23 AM PST

Anyone's workout app very laggy? When I open mine and try to swipe to a workout, it is often several seconds before the movement occurs. Same goes with making a workout selection. Not a dealbreaker, but it's obnoxious when I want to hop onto the elliptical and start tracking immediately.

If anyone else has experienced, any solutions? Thanks.

Good / best app for snowboarding?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:06 AM PST

I'll be heading to the Dolomites (Italian Alps) for a week of snowboarding. Are there any great apps for AppleWatch to track what slopes I rode and to track it as activities? There is the slopes app, which is $20/year though. Are there any good alternatives? Anyone know if slopes supports ski resorts in the Alps?

Hi Does anyone know of any good apps that will superimpose the watch template (date time and activity) over a photo so that I can line it up and crop perfectly?

    Thanks

Got a new job and now my S3 LTE battery is draining crazy fast

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 04:42 AM PST

I recently switched to a new job with an office about 3 miles away from my old office. I leave my phone in my car during the day and just wear my S3 LTE.

At my old job, I could do this all day and listen to a couple hours of music from the watch, and when I took it off at bedtime it would have about 20% battery life left.

At my new office, the battery is at 0% by 1pm even if I don't stream anything.

In both instances the watch has been using LTE, not wifi.

    Any ideas?

Official /r/AppleWatch February Fill The Rings Challenge!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 05:07 AM PST

    Hey everybody,

After taking to some members of the community, we decided to do a fitness challenge for February to get people motivated to fill their rings! Most New Year's Resolutions tend to fall off in February, so what better way to keep us motivated than to have a little friendly challenge?

For this challenge we will be using the Challenges app (made by the folks over at LoseIt). For those of you who are unfamiliar with the app, it's an app that allows you to join teams and get points for filling your rings. Based on the weight that you enter in when you set up your account, it will suggest a move goal for the challenge. At the end of the challenge, you will be awarded Bronze, Silver, or Gold depending on your performance.

    Instructions on how to join:

    • First, download Challenges
    • Once you have the app, enter invite code: 'upw8'
    • Find a team and join or create your own

Here's how the medals break down:

    • Bronze = 40 points/day average
    • Silver = 60 points/day average
    • Gold = 80 points/day average

    How do you earn points?

    • Move points are earned by closing your move ring. 12 points per ring closed (points awarded for partial closures) with a maximum of 36 points per day possible
    • Exercise points are awarded by closing the exercise ring. 12 points per ring closed (points awarded for partial closures) with a maximum of 36 points per day possible
    • Stand points are awarded for closing your stand ring. 1 point per each stand hour with a maximum of 14 points per day possible
    • If you close all three rings you get 12 bonus points
    • If a teammate closes all three rings, you get 4 bonus points, with 12 points possible if all three teammates close all their rings

I think this will be a fun and healthy way for us to continue to motivate each other, and give us something to do other than post pictures of watch bands (jk, keep those pictures coming).

Let's use this thread for organizing teams and motivating each other as the month goes on.

If you have any questions at all about how to set up the app, don't hesitate to message me, as I'm very familiar with the app and happy to help.

Thanks, and let's get this party started!

    -Eric

Any chance we could sticky this mods?

Workout Heart Rate Nike Series 2

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:16 AM PST

I've been using my Nike Series 2 watch for over a year now as my main fitness watch. In general I've been reasonably happy.

One thing I've always found pretty terrible on the apple watch is heart rate. I've had a few garmin watches and cycle computers in the past with chest straps, and then prior to the apple watch a fitbit charge HR. All of which were so much better than the Apple Watch at measuring heart rate.

I decided this week to buy a bluetooth heart rate monitor (Polar OH1) and here is a comparison of runs, the top two is the apple watch and the bottom two the Polar OH1.

HockeyTracker for Apple Watch now available for pre-order!

    Posted: 22 Jan 2018 10:27 PM PST

Hey guys I've been working on HockeyTracker for Apple Watch for about 5 months and I'm nearing a launch hopefully by the end of January, early February. The app is now available for pre-order https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hockeytracker/id1297971760?ls=1&mt=8

If any of you are hockey players and follow the Hockey subreddit, it began with a post of just an idea I had for an app and has evolved into fairly sophisticated app that tracks a number of metrics we hockey players are interested in. See more 👉 www.hockeytrackerapp.com

Also please feel free to join our Slack Community to discuss not only the app but anything else hockey related: https://join.slack.com/t/hockeytracker/shared_invite/enQtMjk0MjMwNTc2OTQ4LTM0NzZkZjQwOWEzMjY3ZWQyZDEwMzM1OGI5NDM1MzRmOGY5Yjg4Zjc2MjYzYTU4Mjg5N2IxMzU1YjRjOWRkYzk

Finally please share with anyone you know that might be interested. I'm just a solo indy dev so any help spreading the word is appreciated 🙏 Gary

Apple should make bigger activity challenges with better rewards

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:05 AM PST

Apple started a new internal activity challenge for Apple employees with a watchband as reward.

    This got me thinking:
I don't want Apple to send every Apple Watch user free physical stuff for being active, but I loved to see improved activity challenges.
Don't get me wrong, badges and iMessages stickers are nice for small challenges.
In addition Apple should/could start bigger and/or "harder" challenges (e.g. average 3x 30min workout per week for 3 month) with better rewards.
I think would it be awesome if you could unlock a watchface, watchface effects(such as an "active ring"-color theme for hands) or even order an exclusive watchband as a reward.

    Opinions?

    Activity monitor is VERY generous.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:33 AM PST

Series 3 LTE. I don't exercise, but I do walk around an office somewhat. Still, there's no way that I stand or move as much as the watch says. It seems to give me move credit when I'm in traffic. It's become a joke with my wife, who exercises a lot, when after a day of doing nothing, my watch starts with the pink fireworks. Me: (smugly)Guess I got my activity in... Her: eyeroll.

Anyone have any tips on how to make it more accurate? The calibration on apples site seems to be for series 1 and earlier. Thanks for your help.

    [Question] Looking at Apple Watch...

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:26 AM PST

I just bought my first iPhone this summer after about 6-7 years of being an Android user, and I have been interested in getting an Apple Watch.

The devices are still pretty expensive, and I don't want to regret my purchase. So as much as I would like a Series 3, I think the Series 1 or 2 fits my usage far more. I just need something that can take on sweat during workouts. I see that the S1 is splash resistant, is that good enough? Or is the waterproofing of the S2 more of a safe bet? And how is battery life in the S1? I heard that it is not the greatest, but I would most likely only be using it lightly; checking the time and switching music tracks mostly.

How durable is the stainless steel casing?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:22 AM PST

I just purchased an AW SSS2 and there's dent on one of the corners. Thing is, when I went to first inspect the watch, it looked fine, I then popped it in the box, carried it home, and then when I got home, noticed the dent. The seller mentioned that they never dented it.

My first AW SSS0 is scuffs and scratches, but no corner dents.

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/dD1bzSypcbjQFRwr1

I suppose there's not much I can do about this? The screen is good, the dented corner looks a bit less curvy due to the dented body.

    How is exercise ring determined?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 05:44 AM PST

Yesterday I did a 45 minute insanity workout and my ring said I only exercised for 13 minutes? How is it determined because one day I didn't workout and it completely filled up.

How to know if watch was stolen

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 05:32 AM PST

I'm looking to buy a series 2 off of craigslist that is said to be brand new asking for $200. Obviously a good deal if it's true. The only thing I'm worried about is how do I know if this is stolen? I've done some googling and haven't found a resource on this topic. Any help is appreciated.
