Got a Battery Replacement today... Interesting words from a Genius... Posted: 09 Jan 2018 10:43 AM PST So got my iPhone 6 Battery replacement today under the new program... Because my iP6 as sucking ass. Geekbench score before:
Geekbench score after:
My iPhone is noticeably snappier and feels not shit. Apps aren't dying so much and battery level seems to be much more stable (Doesn't jump around at random) But that's not the interesting part. That was kinda all expected. And I'm happy with my new battery. Me: Hey man, just in to get the battery changed in my iPhone 6 under the new program. Genius: That great! What issues are you having with your phone? Me: Well battery life ain't great, and performance is dire, I can barely type at times. Genius: This battery replacement will not improve performance. That's a software issue, the only way you're going to get better performance is getting a new device. Do you still want to get the repair? Me: I mean it's also doing the shut down thing so I want it replaced regardless, not looking for a new phone at the moment. Genius: Okay well it'll take 1-2 hours, it'll be £25 when you get back. And I know it seems like a small thing, a small mention. But I think it's quite important and it annoyed me. Not only is it wrong, my iPhone has seen a noticeable speed increase due to the new battery as has it benchmarks. But the genius was fully prepared to show off new phones as a replacement. Do I blame the genius? No I don't. But it shows a clear lack of understanding among staff about the issue... Which is possibly resulting in what Apple are denying they are doing. Throttling leading to up sell new iPhones. Battery fix sorted my issue, which is the main thing. But given news is "Apple slowing down iPhones" when you go into to get your phone fixed you don't expect to be told "Yea just buy a new Phone if you want better performance, not the battery replacement" it doesn't look good... What are the first things you do when you first get a new MacBook? Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:14 PM PST Just bought mine, I pretty much just installed my basic programs like chrome (but I'm basic and new to MacOS) [link] [comments] |

Apple NEEDS to allow the Touch Bar to work with Night Shift Posted: 09 Jan 2018 08:33 AM PST I don't have many complaints about my MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar, except how BLUE it is when using Night Shift. I'll admit, I'm more partial to f.lux than I am to Night Shift. However, I would switch to Night Shift immediately if Apple optimized the Touch Bar to work with it. I know it's probably a pipe dream to hope that Apple will work with f.lux on this problem, so I hope that Apple will implement Night Shift functionality ASAP. Although, seeing how busy they are with the fires they've started over the last year or so, I doubt they'll get around to it ... [link] [comments] |

Did the App Store wish list disappear with iOS 11? Posted: 09 Jan 2018 06:57 PM PST Or am I just dense / blind / misremembering? Today I came across an app that caught my interest. It's $2.99, and I don't want to pay for it right now but I'd like to keep an eye on it/do some research and come back to it later. No biggie, figure I'll just add it to my wishlist and move along. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it. The share option allows me to send as a message, save to a note or set a reminder. But no wishlist. I swear I used to have a wishlist of "saved" apps that I'd use in situations like this. Am I misremembering? Or was the feature removed with the App Store redesign? [link] [comments] |

This webpage was reloaded because it was using significant energy. Posted: 09 Jan 2018 07:30 PM PST This is a new "feature" since updating OSX yesterday. Safari reloads background tabs whether you want to or not. Its really annoying if Google docs or slack stays open in a tab. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2018 05:25 PM PST Say for example I connect my MacBook Pro to an external GPU enclosure with an AMD GPU, which is in turn connected to a FreeSync monitor, will FreeSync be enabled? And the same with an Nvidia card and G-sync monitor? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2018 09:08 PM PST I've gotta say, the chat-based tech support on Apple's website is head and shoulders above any other chat-based tech support I've ever used. I've had a couple iPhone issues that I needed help with, and it's kind of amazing how helpful the Apple reps I've chatted with have been. The length they go to listen to you and ensure you've had a satisfactory experience is way beyond anything I've encountered elsewhere. It almost feels like being in a therapy session because you can just keep talking (typing) and they'll just keep listening and keep trying their best to help. I kind of feel bad for them, because the sheer openness means they probably put up with a lot of nonsense. I can almost picture lonely people using that chat service just to have someone to talk to. That's how attentive the reps seem. By contrast, I just tried contacting my ISP/carrier about a technical problem I was having with my service, and after an hour of waiting to connect (compared to 2 minutes for Apple), I had a short conversation in which they sorta/kinda/partially fixed the issue, and then were eager to close the chat and get the hell out of there. The second I said "Thanks", the window was closed and they were auto-sending me the transcript. That's how most tech support usually is, from my experience. But Apple's reps are trained to sound more like counselors than tech support agents. Just a weird observation I had. [link] [comments] |
