Fried SSD Drive - Should I still be able to power unit on/hardware Diag? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:23 PM PST My Late 2013 Macbook Pro got some water on it and stopped working after that. I opened it up and looking at the logic board I can see that the SSD seems to have been fried. I have some questions: 1) Should I still be able to power it up even with a fried SSD to run Apple Diagnostics? As it currently doesn't power up so I am not sure if there is more damage to the logic board that is not visible. 2) If I take out the SSD - Should I be able to power it on and run diags? If so I could determine it was just the SSD that was fried. This is the guide I was looking at to replace the SSD - https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Retina+Display+Late+2013+SSD+Replacement/23431 Here are some pictures of the logic board and fried SSD. The top of image 2 and image 3 show the SSD and you can see some blackening on the silver. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Does MacOS throttle performances on Old Batteries? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:33 PM PST First post. Sorry if there's formatting issues Since the iPhone BatteryGate fiasco, I've been wondering if the same thing explains the degrading of my 2012 MBPR performances over the years as well. MacOS did warn me to get my battery serviced, but of course it'll be better for me to understand whether I should consider changing my battery or getting a new Macbook Pro instead for the native performance. The former would definitely be appreciated since I'm low on budget at the moment. MacOS High Sierra (10.13.2) MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1 GB, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB Battery Health: https://i.imgur.com/0b3ZIN8.jpg Benchmark Performance: https://i.imgur.com/sCU2vmk.jpg Single Core performance comparisons (of the same processor) https://i.imgur.com/SZzqBF3.jpg Multi-Core Comparisons (of the same processor) https://i.imgur.com/DC8oxbQ.jpg [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:27 PM PST Been running my 2012 Macbook Pro for school work and it's been running fine. Yesterday my Macbook stopped charging and it's due to a bad wire on the Magsafe charger. I have attached a picture. Is this damage repairable or am I going to need to spend $100 on a new charger? Any guides or tutorial links would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Ideas for a MBP 2011 with a bad GPU. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:19 PM PST Back in September I upgraded to High Sierra and either by coincidence or cause and effect my gpu died immediately after the installation reboot. I received a new 2017 MPB and I'm open to ideas on what to do with my old faulty MacBook. I'd hate for the usable parts to go to waste but there isn't much I can do with it in its current state. Should I sell it, part it out, repurpose it, or are there any other suggestions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:23 AM PST Do you think there will be any big updates to the MBP in 2018? I've heard rumors about secondary processors for the touch bar and other stuff. Obviously nothing is confirmed. I'm in the market for a 15" MBP, but it's not high priority if there's a good reason to wait it out a few months. [link] [comments]
