Apple Macbook Keyboard + Water Shenanigans

    Keyboard + Water Shenanigans

It was raining terribly outside and part of my job's roof was leaking. I, barely registered this, and of course, opened up my MacBook to work on an important document under the leak and got a raindrop or two on my keyboard. Didn't think, I just ran into the dining area like a concerned emotional parent.

I immediately grabbed napkins and cleaned them off. Now it's been tilted over, turned off twice, flipped over with napkins sandwiched in the center of it with it. There's no towels or rice here.

This MacBook is my baby. Gave it a name and everything (EDI after the character in Mass Effect.) . My friends say it'll be fine since it's a super small amount of water, but I'm still antsy. It was a gift and I'm basically the dad that bans dancing in Footloose when it comes to it.

Upgrade 2011MBP OR Purchase Mid 2012MBP

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 05:19 PM PST

Hi all. Lifetime PC user, looking to switch to Mac. I was considering buying a refurb 2012 MBP, but was recently told I can have a friends "old" MBP:

    •Late 2011 •2.4 GHz Core i5 •8 GB RAM •500 GB HDD

Would it make sense to spend the money ($357.88) to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB ($158) and to a 500 GB SSD ($199.88), OR buy a refurb Mid 2012 with similar specs for about $1,100?

I guess the question is essentially is the mid 2012 THAT much better than a late 2011?

A follow up question would be, assuming I take the 2011, will I see better performance gains from the SSD or the additional 8 GB RAM?

    Thanks in advance!

    Checklist for refurbished products?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 04:08 PM PST

Planning on buying a refurbished MBP but was wondering if there was a list of things I should check when I pick up the refurb? Things like checking battery life, keyboard/touchpad sensitivity, etc., just to double check.

I just bought my first MacBook. Any tips or advice? Things I should do first?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 01:40 AM PST

I've been on Windows for my entire life, but I just bought a MacBook (MacBook Pro 13" with TouchBar) to join the iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple TV that I already have. I've spent the last few hours playing around, figuring-out things from gestures, to what Siri is capable of, to how to navigate around.

Does anyone have any tips/advice for a Mac beginner though? Any gestures that I'll never have come across on Windows? Any necessary security features/apps I should enable or download? Any other recommended apps, or tips in general?

At this stage, my knowledge of Mac is basically a blank page, so any tips anyone can offer, however obvious they seem, would be great.

    Best Keyboard for 2017 MBP?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 10:24 AM PST

I'm looking for a good keyboard that I can use for light gaming (league of legends) and xcode. I prefer wireless as I'm not a professional gamer so it wouldn't matter too much for league and i dont want to get extra dongles to be able to connect to the new mbp. However it doesnt have to be. I plan on making my MBP like a desktop, so if wires are needed it would be fine.

What would you guys suggest? I'm leaning towards steelmaster m800, magic keyboard and das keyboard 4 but see mixed reviews for all.
