Maybe it's just me but I have never seen the iPhone as a "status symbol" yet I always hear people mentioning this.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 11:01 AM PST

There was perhaps some great novelty back in the first couple generations of iPhones, but who the hell ever looks at someone using an iPhone and goes "Wow, that person seems important."?

Maybe in a third world country I suppose owning ANY smartphone could be seen as status, but I live in Idaho and nobody gives a shit.

People are saying Apple should buy Netflix. Forget it. It's too late

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 03:54 PM PST

iOS updates should go through the App Store like macOS updates go through the Mac App Store.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:22 AM PST

iOS really needs to be more simplified. I have to constantly remind friends and family how to update their iPhones and iPads because they didn't know how. It may be obvious to those of us that are familiar with this stuff, but I definitely see people struggling frequently.

On a side note, I think iOS settings as a whole need to be simplified. Too many taps to get to what I'm looking for and the locations of some settings are questionable. Don't get me wrong, I love iOS, but there is always room for improvement.

Why do v.redd.it videos suck so much in mobile safari?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 12:13 PM PST

I use iOS safari in desktop mode. The Reddit hosted videos are horrible. They rarely play completely. They choke loading and stop playing, and sometimes even randomly switch to a completely fucked up stretched aspect ratio like if you stretched a vertical video in landscape to full the screen. If your stuff fails to work in iOS safari, you have failed. Not to mention they get a dick bar that doesn't go away if you scroll to look at some comments.

And worst of all if you try and view in mobile safari it tells you to get the app! Don't even let you view the video or comments (edit: it is letting me now, got a denial message before though.) Not cool to cripple the mobile safari and try and force the garbage app down our throats for no reason. Thank god "request desktop site" works for now, it is great for everything but these videos. I fear the day "request desktop site" stops working.

Am I the only one who wishes for a MacOS News App?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:59 AM PST

I love the News app on iOS and wish it would come to MacOS. I know it's generally easier to browse news sites on Mac, but I just love being able to customize my news sources and prioritize them, having them all in one place like on the iOS map. I wish there was a Mac equivalent.

Getting new iPhone 6s, my first ios device.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 08:01 PM PST

I am android phone user right from my first phone which was 8 years ago. Due to policy at my work, I will be getting a iPhone 6s next week.

What are the things(system settings, apps etc) I should keep in mind to make ios experience enjoyable?

As it would be a work phone, I will be mainly using it for calling and email. So which apps will be helpful to improve my productivity? Which is the latest ios version which is stable for iPhone 6s?

Scratches and Wear-N-Tear on Apple Products... Everything Is Going to Be Okay

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 09:16 PM PST

Just thought I would share this here, because I know many owners of Apple products (including myself) have stressed over this at some point. And I want others to know, we all go through it eventually. Awhile back, I became really obsessed with keeping my Apple products and pretty much everything I own in an OCD-like perfect state. Meaning, no scratches and no wear what so ever. And when something would happen and strike out of nowhere, I would spend days thinking about it. Like a mystery scratch, that I had never seen before. It ruined my day.

I no longer stress over whether my things are perfect or not. Because over time, I began to look closely at what was around me. To my surprise, many things are damaged. Yet they still function and look good doing it. So, don't sweat it. This type of behavior, I feel, was a result of me wanting to be perfect and wanting others to see that. When in reality, nothing is perfect and same goes for people. To be honest, I do get a little bummed when I see some damage. When the rest of the "thing" is mint. But, like I said prior, "don't sweat it".

Talking about all of this has reminded me of the "Designed in California" reveal video, with Jony Ive (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEW4D_CERkE). In the book, a really beat up iPod is shown. That thing must of, had some love!

Today, I still cover my things in cases and give them the protection they deserve. However, my MacBook has a few scratches and dings, my brand new iPhone has a scratch near the mute toggle (Even though it's been in a case from day one), and even my Apple TV has some wear. All awhile, having a force shield around them. The moral of this is, stuff wears. Even the second you open it from the box.

I thought it would be nice to throw this out there. Maybe it will put someone at ease. Gosh, even writing about this, made me feel good. I would love to hear from others on this subject. How did you overcome this? Much love Apple community!

Side note: If this isn't the right place to post this, please let me know. And I will be more than happy, to relocate it.

What's your long-term experience with the 2016 Macbook Pro w/ TB?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 03:46 PM PST

Been reading through this subreddit and /r/macbookpro, and 99% of what comes up with the '16 MBP seems to be keyboard horror stories, touchbars failing expectations, and battery problems. There aren't too many posts anymore about these now that the '17 Kaby Lake MBP is out, but I wanted to know how my '16 users were feeling.

Now that the computer has been out for nearly 1.5 years, how do you feel about the machine and have your opinions changed since you first purchased? Has it been as underwhelming of an experience as reddit makes it out to be?

    iPhone X Photo Backup

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 07:48 PM PST

The iPhone X takes amazing photos. I want to do it justice by saving my photos to the cloud in the best way possible. Since iPhones use the new HEIF format for saving images, does having an exclusive google photos backup degrade quality in any way? I prefer google photos because of the unlimited photo storage capacity.

Would it be preferable to save it via iCloud (in what I assume would be HEIF format) for optimal quality?

    Save deceased Father’s iPad photos

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 11:27 AM PST

My father passed in August and I now own his 12" iPad Pro. I'd like to wipe it and use it as my own but before I do, I'd like to save all the photos that are on it. But the PC he used to sync a bunch of photo albums to it isn't accessible to me (it was a work PC).

When I plug it into my PC and look at the saved stuff, none of the photos show so I'm not sure what to do.

    Kernel panic during sleep mode

    Posted: 13 Jan 2018 12:40 AM PST

Hi Everyone, 4 days ago my 2017 MacBook Pro started exhibiting a strange behaviour. Basically when it's in sleep mode, it crashes and when I open it I have to boot it again and the report shows a kernel panic, that is almost always identical, and it says something like:

    Fatal error occurred. CSTS=0xffffffff . FW Revision=CXS4JA0Q\n"@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/IONVMeFamily/IONVMeFamily-356.30.6/IONVMeController.cpp:5275

I haven't installed anything new in these days, I resetted the NVRAM, the RMC, I did diagnostic and first aid on the SSD, the problem is still there. Maybe it is also worth noting that the very first time that it happened there was also a flashing box with a question mark, but this happened only the first time.

Right now I have installed an app, Insomnia X, that prevents the laptop to go in sleep mode when I close the lid, but I would like to solve this problem. Do you have any idea of what can I do, apart from going to the Apple Store to check the hardware? Unfortunately I cannot go until the end of the month, so I would like in the meantime to find out if it's a software related problem.

    Thanks in advance!

A way to finely tune the audio balance?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 06:51 PM PST

My right ear is slightly deafer then my left ear, but moving the slider to the position where the sound is "centered" on my head doesn't work. The slider just bounces back to the center, or moves to a further position. Is there a way I can move the slider more finely or is that not possible?

Dark areas (ghosting?) appeared on MacBook Pro screen

    Posted: 12 Jan 2018 01:42 PM PST

    Hello everyone

I've had my MacBook Pro 2016 model (with Touch Bar) since May 2017. A series of faulty keyboards has made this the 3rd model I'm on.

A few weeks back I started noticing some dark shadowy areas on the middle of the screen. Since I use this machine for editing photos and picture precision is important, this renders the computer almost broken for me in my line of work.

I opened up an about blank page for you to take a look – picture example here.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? What is likely the cause? And finally, is it enough a reason for a screen/unit swap?
