Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:33 PM PST Hello, This isn't a thread where I need help or anything, but some of the issues I mention have almost no information online so I thought I would post it.
Whew. Ok no help needed but maybe this will help somebody else running through the same issues I ran through. [link] [comments]

Refreshing a MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) with new SSD/Battery and upgrading to High Sierra Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:09 PM PST I know Apple has an official page claiming a MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) can be upgraded to High Sierra I was just looking for feedback from anyone who has done it. This is a Mac I sold to a friend a few years ago I do support for on occasion. I upgraded it to 4GB of RAM and it has the original 250GB HDD in it. The battery says "Service Soon" or "Service Now", I found a guide on iFixIt.com for how to do this and it doesn't look too bad to do with the correct tools. Would it be worth it to upgrade the HDD to an inexpensive SSD and swap the battery? The MacBook is in impeccable shape otherwise. Refurbished Macbook 2017 or Customize Old 2012 Macbook Pro Posted: 31 Jan 2018 07:14 PM PST My current macbook pro is killing me: it takes ages to open Chrome and internet surfing becomes an issue if i open more than 3 tabs. When I was using Xcode I had to legit wait half an hour for it to compile. So now I'm interested in ios app development and knowing that my current configuration will not support it I was wondering if it is worth to customize it (new SSD and RAM, I only have 4gb lol) or should I just buy a refurbished 2017 macbook. Thanks! P.S. I'm in Canada btw and options are kinda limited here [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 11:37 AM PST I recently have been presented with the opportunity to trade my base model 2015 mbp for a base model i5 2015 mb. Im not too sure what to do. I prefer the form factor of the MacBook, and am by no means a power user. I am currently at university for English and commonly use an extra monitor for my writing. I am just looking for some advice on what to do. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 12:51 PM PST What are some of the best cases for a 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch without touch bar? I am looking for a case that will protect the laptop, but at the same time not being too bulky. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 03:22 AM PST I have a 2017 MBP 13" - recently bought two LG 27UD88 USB-C LCD Monitors for use with the laptop. They are great monitors and the USB-C Feature is super awesome, no need for dongles or power cable etc. however, I have noticed if they are both plugged in with USB-C they tend to crash the machine quite often, it just randomly reboots. I have connected one with USB-C to HDMI Dongle for the interim. Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with USB-C Monitors and similar behaviour? I have a hunch its the Mac not knowing how to handle two 60w USB-C Inputs, but can't see anyway to disable the power output on the monitors :( [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro - 2017 8GB Ram vs 2015 16GB Ram Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:24 AM PST Hey all, I'm new here. I'm a photographer and I'd like 16GB of ram to keep Lightroom and Photoshop humming along perfectly fine. I'm running an early or mid 2012 i5 machine with 8GB ram, for reference. I can only just barely keep Lightroom and Photoshop open at the same time, and even then it's pretty slow, if not crashing. I had a hard crash while trying to process an HDR image last night, very frustrating. I'm wondering if the two year gap and faster clock speeds have made the difference between a 2015 machine with 16GB and a 2017 machine with 8GB smaller. I'm seeing some decent deals (via Craigslist) on newer machines with only 8GB of ram and I'm wondering if that will cut it. I mainly want stability and freedom to keep PS, LR, and Safari open at the same time, and feel like my computer won't crash. Speed is less important, I can wait for things to process. Thoughts? I'm seeing intermittent deals on 2015 16GB (1600 MHz) machines from 1100-1300, but I'm also running across 2017 8GB (2133 MHz) machines for 900 on occasion. [link] [comments]
