Finally got a 12” MacBook and it’s mostly new! Posted: 20 Jan 2018 09:51 PM PST I'd been lusting after the MacBook since it was released in 2015. I mean, it's probably one of the most visually appealing devices since the iPhone 4. I've been using the iPads Pro since their inception and I was well integrated into the limitations of using an iOS workflow (for reference I've used the 2015 12.9" LTE 128, 2017 12.9" LTE 256, and now a 2017 10.5" LTE 64. I also have a 2011 Mac Mini with 1Tb SSHD with 16gb RAM). I'm also not opposed to using adapters (for what I do, I don't use more than just a charging cable 99% of the time although I do have a few for my iPads). I'd been watching Swappa and EBay and Craigslist for a while had been debating between roughly $650 USD for a 2015 or $800 for a 2016 but $700 was really the limit on what I could spend. Found a 2015 m3 with 256 for $575 with some USB accessories and I jumped on it. I really wanted the added speed of the faster 2016 SSDs but I had to obey my budget. It had 94 cycles on it at the time of purchase. So I met up with this young girl and the everything on the machine works but it's filthy. The screen looks like it's been used in a cafeteria. But I figured I could clean it up at home. When I got it home and started wiping off the screen some of the spots were caked on debris and took a little careful scrubbing. One of the spots however would not come off despite putting some pretty good elbow grease on it. It turned out it wasn't a splotch of crap but a tiny little etching of the outer coating of the screen. You couldn't see it when the screen was off because there was no pixel damage, but when it was off and black it's one of those things that would drive me nuts. I was bummed that I hadn't looked closer, but at this point I had the PC I'd wanted for two years and I couldn't see the blemish when the screen was on anyway. I ended up going to the Apple store for an unrelated errand and I popped in to find out how much it might cost to get the screen repaired. Turns out that A) there was a salsa spill on the keyboard and the keyboard, top case, and speaker were already replaced not too long ago because B) the mac was under Apple Care! The girl hadn't told me this when I bought it. They shipped it out and I got it back today and I love it. Total cost on the repair was exactly what I had paid for it $575. The girl at Apple who helped me said that only the motherboard, bottom case and battery are the original. TL:DR I bought a used MacBook and it had a broken screen but surprisingly found out it had Apple Care and the screen was replaced for free. Edit: Sorry if this violates rule #3 I'm not sure. 2016 or 2017? or even wait for the 2018? Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:39 PM PST so I'm contemplating on which 13" Macbook Pro (Non Touch-Bar) to purchase.. should I get the 2016 model with less Processor and GPU with 256GB SSD for less price or should I get the 2017 model with better Processor and GPU with 256GB SSD for a little bit more pricey than the 2016 model or perhaps wait for the 2018 model which was rumored to have a quad-core upgrade? Posted: 20 Jan 2018 06:56 PM PST Hello, Recently upgraded my mom to a macbook air for the holidays. Are there any tutorials specifically in Chinese for her to use/follow? Google and Youtube haven't been too helpful thus far. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Running Logic Pro on the 2017 12" Macbook (newest) Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:42 AM PST Hey everyone - I want a new Macbook (the little 12" one) to finish up medical school (really don't want a Pro, I've had one and I hate the size/look of it -- I wish I didn't care so much about how things look and feel, but I do), and I'd ideally like to do some Logic Pro on it as well. I can get the basic model (8GB, 1.1GHz m3 processor) for ~$1100, mid-level (16GB, 1.2GHz i5) for ~$1470 or a pretty nice one (16GB, 1.4GHz i7 processor) for ~$1550 (all refurbished prices). I currently have the 16GB i5 in my possession but I just got it and would be willing to return it if another one is a better option for me. If the nicer one would make a significant difference in being able to use Logic Pro on it, then it'll be worth it to me. I really want a machine with 16GB RAM because I don't want to be worried about some new iOS requiring so much RAM that my 8GB machine slows down. So honestly, getting the nicer model would be better for my "please don't slow down and make me need another upgrade" anxiety. I also have the option to just get a standalone desktop computer for doing Logic Pro in the near future, so if the best Macbook still wouldn't be good enough, I can see myself getting the most basic Macbook and then a second, much more powerful desktop. Anyone think there's an appreciable difference between the two in terms of using Logic? [link] [comments] |
Is it the battery or the charger? Posted: 20 Jan 2018 11:28 AM PST I have an early-2011 MacBook Pro. A few months ago I had the battery replaced (at a Genius Bar). Recently, though, I've noticed that it's not charging very well. In fact, in some cases the battery level actually goes down while the charger is connected, if I am doing something even marginally intensive. Is there a way to tell if the problem is the charger itself? It's the same charger that came with the MBP in 2011, so I won't be at all surprised if it is the culprit. But since I recently replaced the battery, I have to consider that, as well. I'd like to be more certain before I go and shell out money for a new charger. Thanks in advance! -Randy [link] [comments] |
Posted: 20 Jan 2018 03:18 AM PST Hey guys, so im going on holiday to Canada in a week and macs are much cheaper there than here (UK) so I'm going to order one to the house I'm staying at. This is the mac: https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/FNQF2LL/A/Refurbished-133-inch-Macbook-Pro-29GHz-Dual-core-Intel-Core-i5-with-Retina-Display-Space-Grey Just wandering if a canadian keyboard will be any different from a UK/US one? Cant find the info on the page regarding the keyabord Thanks [link] [comments] |
