    Apple Watch New Years Fireworks

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:05 PM PST

I looked at my Apple Watch at midnight, right when the new year started, and fireworks went off on my watch face. Did anyone else see this? I was using the astronomy face.

Edit: If you check your notifications it will say, "Happy New Year, 'name'". If you tap it it plays the fireworks animation.

How is this allowed on the App Store?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:35 PM PST

How is Twisty Road, a complete copy of IMPOSSIBLE ROAD, an Editor's Choice game, allowed on the App Store? Aren't there checks in place to prevent something like this? The game itself is riddled with ads and it's obvious this game was made for money.

The Apple Watch and Activity app have to be of the most satisfying fitness recorders

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:35 PM PST

    image 1

First of all, Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all are having a lovely evening so far.

I've had the Apple Watch for just over a year now ('twas a gift). At first, I didn't believe it would be that remarkable of a device, but over the course of the year I have gotten used to it and now I can't picture myself without it.

One of my favorite features has been the fitness tracking. The fact that it seamlessly integrates to my phone and I can easily see all my statistics of that day are wonderful. The daily goals and monthly challenges are also lovely to have and work toward.

This is something I found was missing with the Fitbit I used to own. I like the feeling of earning achievements, but there wasn't really much to work toward besides my step goal and a few other things (that may have changed since). Not to mention constant syncing with the app just to see my data.

This and the workouts app have really helped me to be more active overall and I can't thank Apple enough for assisting my lazy ass.

Just thought I'd share a few of my thoughts on it. The picture I posted is just my last push of effort before the new year kicks in (it's from today) and I raise my move goal.

Anyway, I would really like to know how some of you guys have used the watch to for activity and/or other areas, and maybe learn a few new aspects of it.

    Thanks!

I left Apple Music for Spotify!

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:07 PM PST

I've been on the fence between Apple Music and Spotify. I've been using Spotify way before Apple Music became a thing, and recently I've decided to try out Apple Music...The only Pro I have for AM is being able to use Siri to change music and etc. but other than that, I am so use to Spotify's interface..I feel more comfortable with Spotify... which is why I switched back. Spotify has so much more to offer than AM...all the personalized playlist and end of the year"Wrapped" playlists... it's all so nice to have.

Apple Music has a lot of improve on, but until then, I'm sticking with Spotify! 👍🏻😊

Save text message chain and turn into book?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:17 PM PST

I have an entire chain of text messages/photos saved from iPhone to iPhone of someone close that passed away. Is there a way for me to save into a file to turn into a book? I can view back the messages pretty far and would love to read through all of them and keep them as memory.

Went to bed with 34%, woke up to iPhone X dead. Anyone else noticing battery life issues?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:25 AM PST

Battery life has been great but the last few days, my phone has not been able to keep a charge. No settings have been changed.

    **UPDATE....

First, thanks for the responses and feedback.

The first thing i did this morning was verify exactly what was using the battery. Nothing jumped out to me. I dont have Facebook installed and have background app refresh turned off. I havent changed my usage or settings in the past month hence my concern with my phone dying overnight. That has not happened since I received the phone. It appears the battery is back to normal as it's currently at >95% with normal usage today. Hopefully the battery fully draining helped.

    Happy New Year everyone!

Can't get question mark on iPad keyboard.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:40 AM PST

Hey guys, I updated my iPad to 11.2 and I can't find the question mark anymore. There's a button towards the bottom right corner with the full stop and question mark on it but nothing I do can get the question mark to work. I double tap, hold it to bring up the little pop up. Am I doing something wrong or is it a legitimate problem and what can I do to fix it?

Have any AirPlay 2 speakers (besides Sonos) been announced yet?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:15 AM PST

I'm looking to get a speaker for my living room - one that I can stream music through as well as connect to my turntable.

I know both Sonos and the HomePod will support AirPlay 2 but neither have an aux connection - and to be honest they're both probably a touch more expensive than I'd like.

Have any other companies announced compatible devices yet?

What is the iPhone X WiFi speed?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 02:53 PM PST

The most definitive answer I can find is 802.11ac MIMO. Is there an actual Mbps number for this?

Looking at routers that advertise themselves as 802.11ac MIMO, the number varies between 750 - 1750Mbps.

What sensors and proactive health capabilities might be added to future Apple Watches?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:30 AM PST

Tim Cook said in an interview that he sees it as a car dashboard but for the body, bringing attention to important health information that people wouldn't have sought out and caught themselves. Besides non-invasive glucose monitoring, what other hardware and software advancements do you imagine could come to Apple Watch related to health? Perhaps more uses of ResearchKit like Apple Heart Study?

    2015 MacBook Pro vs. 2016/2017

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:57 AM PST

I've been trying to hang on to my 2012 MacBook pro retina for as long as I can but recently the my MBP has been experiencing display issues and I've tried everything short of reinstalling the OS. I'm also needing something with a larger SSD than what I currently have which is 256GB since I like to do some photo and video editing while on family vacations.

I've been eyeing the late 2016 MBP with 1TB SSD from a few authorized sites that have them for around $2500. I've tried the newer ones in the store and like the form factor but I don't really like the keyboard. I use mechanical keyboards when I'm on my desktop at home or while at work because I enjoy the tactile feel of them. Of all laptop keyboards I've used I prefer the older MBP chiclet style on my 2012 and up to 2015. I also do some coding (python) on my MBP but it's not my primary machine for it so I'm wondering if I could live with the new style and just get used to it. Also, I'm not sure if I'd want the touch bar or not. It seems gimmicky.

The other things I like about the older MBP's are the magsafe adapter (I have kids that run around the house), the normal sized trackpad so I don't accidentally select something while typing, and the SD slot since my camera uses SD cards and transferring data is straightforward.

What I do like about the new MBP is the form factor being slimmer and lighter (better for travelling), newer screen, and faster processor.

Currently some sites still sell the older mid 2015 MBP with 1TB for about the same price as the late 2016 MBP with 1TB. But the 2015 comes with a slower/older processor and a few other older tech. As someone who is usually into the latest and greatest tech, it strikes me as crazy that I'm actually considering the mid 2015 MBP over a newer late 2016 MBP especially since they are about the same price.

    Any thoughts or personal experience?
