One problem I've encountered is with the spell check feature - when I choose "Learn" for a word not yet in the spell checker dictionary, the red underline remains there for a long period of time (or until I close and reopen the document). Is this something Apple's done by design? In Word the red underline is removed almost immediately when a word is added to the dictionary. [link] [comments]  |
| iPhone is uploading entire photo library for no reason? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 10:02 PM PST My iPhone keeps trying to reupload all my iCloud photos, even though they already exist on iCloud. I was going to let it do whatever it thinks it needs to do, but with over 10000 photos and a slow ADSL line it is going to take a very long time. I'm thinking I need to wipe the photos from the phone and let them all download again. Still slow, but my download speed is much faster than my upload, so it will be faster than what it is currently doing. But how do I go about doing this? I figured I'd just disable iCloud Photo Library, delete the photos, then turn the photo library back on again. I disabled iCloud Photo Library on the phone, but where is the big "Delete all photos from this phone" button? Does one exist? Is there an easier way to fix this? [link] [comments]  |

I know it needs the magnets in the device to connect to the magnetic strip on the keyboard for it to turn on, but is there any way to cheat the magnetic strip on the keyboard into thinking there's an iPad connected so I can use it with other Bluetooth enabled tablets? | Boot Camp Assistant can't unlock preferences Posted: 10 Jan 2018 09:05 PM PST Hi, I'm trying to install a bootcamp partition on my 10.13.1 Late 2014 27-inch iMac. I run bootcamp assistant, which formats the selected USB drive, starts to copy the files, and then hangs halfway. It will hang indefinitely until I click stop, at which point a window pops up prompting me for my password, saying "Boot Camp Assistant is trying to unlock Startup Disk preferences." But I can't see the window until I click stop. It's not under the BCA window or minimized or anything else. Any idea how I can allow the preferences? I'd configure the disk myself, but I think it needs to be FAT32, which has a 4GB file limit and the Windows 10 iso is 4.7GB, so I'm stuck there too. Help appreciated! [link] [comments]  |

Unfortunately, the keyboard I purchased did not come with these screws . How important are the rivets / replacement screws to securing the keyboard, will the device still be functional? | Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:02 PM PST So recently my phones been acting up, I use the battery life app to check the wear level and sometimes it says 8% then 14 then 26 then back to 20 and 14 and it's constantly changing, last week on Jan 3rd I used it for 4 hours and still had 40% left over but now it seems to be going down a lot faster. I keep having the issue where I am writing a message, then paste in something from another doc, so then the font changes to the new one and won't change back, and I can't find a way to select all and just make the whole text the same! Posted: 10 Jan 2018 06:38 PM PST So i purchased a new iphone SE (cdma) from straight talk and i have not been able to get 4g LTE to work at all. i have manually tried to download the APN profile and every time i go to do so it tells me "only one apn can be installed at once". i don't understand because there isn't any profile on my phone and cannot use LTE. I can use 3g just fine. i've called both apple support and straight talk customer service. i read a few threads where someone said that the APN could be in installation limbo and will not finish. i haven't found a solution yet. when i went to set it up i used a gsm sim and used itunes to set it up if that has anything to do with it. but i'm able to use everything just fine except 4G LTE. does anyone have an idea how i could go about getting LTE to work? I recently upgraded my iMac from a late 2012 27" to a late '15 Retina 5K. I previously had Windows 7 on boot camp. I am trying to reinstall Windows on my new Mac and obviously it won't work. My question is this- is there a way to upgrade to Win 10 with my Win 7 key? The program for assistive technologies is still available, but that only offers an .exe file to initiate the upgrade. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 05:26 PM PST This is a really frustrating "feature" of iOS Mail (fully updated but unchanged for the past few versions). When I have an email or email thread open and go out of the app to another app and then come back, the text all disappears and stays gone for a while while the spinning data transfer icon displays in the status bar for a little while, and occasionally, especially if I'm in an area with weak signal, the message never does come back up. This is really frustrating. I would really prefer if email messages actually downloaded or at least cached to the phone's storage rather than trying to reload the message from the server every time I try to look at it. I use my phone and email for work and screenshotting emails before going to court shouldn't be a necessary workaround. But I understand there isn't a setting switch to flip to fix this. So, is anyone aware of an alternative mail client that actually downloads messages to the phone's internal storage? The gmail app, if it happens to do this, is not an option because I use other email services, nor is Outlook for the same reason. [link] [comments]  |

Everywhere I read online indicates that this is either fixed by replacing the screen or tightening some screws. | iPhone 6 backlight issue - options? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:53 PM PST My wife's iPhone 6 64GB (fully updated) just died on her - or so we thought. She was reading a local news website and then just said "my phone had gone off". It seemed non responsive so we tried hard resets a couple of times. It's in the Apple Silicon case (the product red one) and she charges it using its own power plug it came with, and the original cable. She barely uses it except to check the news, take photos, and send text messages, and as satnav in her car via CarPlay. The phone looks as good as new - seriously, other than fingerprints on the screen externally it's in showroom condition. Anyway, the phone was really hot, so we took it out of the case. The phone was incredibly hot just behind the power button, and the button itself was almost painful to touch. We tried doing a hard reset a few times but it never came back on. It then started to cool so we thought the phone had switched off, maybe through thermal shutdown or the battery had died. So we plugged it in and we heard a binging sound. We realised the phone was still on, and I called it from my iPhone to confirm - the phone actually rang. I pressed and held the power button, and using the flashlight on my phone I could see the X in a white circle used to cancel the power off screen. Swiping my finger left to right in the correct position at the top of the screen did shut it down (calling it no longer got a response). So to summarise - the phone works, and is displaying an image on the screen, but the backlight seems to have gone as we can't see the image without a flashlight, and only then where it is a bright white circle. I should add, we can't see the PIN code entry screen and don't want to lock out the phone with multiple attempts to get in. On top of that, my wife never set up Touch ID as it didn't seem to recognise her fingerprints, so we can't get in that way, or use Siri. It's 11:47pm here (UK) so we haven't tried plugging it in to her car yet (she'd be able to phone and text via Siri if she desperately needed to). Any ideas/advice? I'm guessing Apple will charge a lot for a backlight repair - screen repairs are £156.44 but I don't know if a backlight repair would come under "other repairs" at an eye watering £306.44 (almost two thirds of the cost of a new 6S 32GB). I'm not confident about using a third party repairer - I've had friends with badly screwed up phones after using those places. [link] [comments]  |
