Regrets and Return for 2016 13' MBP Posted: 10 Jan 2018 11:34 PM PST I've had this laptop for almost a year now and my manufacturer's warranty is about to expire. I am about to send in my laptop for it's 4th repair due to the keyboard. Is there any way I can get my money back? I just want to return this unreliable $3k machine and get something that won't give me a headache. [link] [comments]
Purchase a new MBP or repair current one? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 05:22 PM PST I've got a late 2012 retina MBP. It had no signs of slowing down until my 'I' and 'O' keys stopped working. Currently using a Bluetooth keyboard as a workaround but not a long term solution. Unfortunately, the repair requires the whole top case to be replaced. A Mac repair store quoted me $250 in comparison to Apple's quote of $475. Do I pay $250 for something I was planning to replace in the next 2 years? Or should I use that money towards a new rMBP? My current late 2012 13" rMBP has 8gb RAM, 128gb SSD with 1,700 cycle count on the battery. I have my eye on a refurb 2017 13" rMBP non Touchbar with 16gb RAM and 256gb SSD. I'm not blown away by the new MBP's and was hoping to wait another year or two. But I'm stuck with indecision. Reddit, please help! [link] [comments]

Need info/help with my MacBook’s SMC Posted: 10 Jan 2018 06:34 PM PST Hi this is my first time using reddit lol but here goes nothing! I recently bought a MacBook over the summer. (It's a 13.3 Inch MacBook Pro 2.7GHz Duel-core Intel i5 with Retina Display) and I spilt water on it over the weekend... the computer worked completely find and I went to set up my stream like I do all the time (I run Elgato Game Capture, OBS, and of course safari) and my computer started lagging and not being able to handle the pressure of these programs being ran. I disconnected from the internet and it started working again and then it started lagging again. So I called apple they ran diagnostics and came to the conclusion that it was my Battery Supply and he SMC so they set me up an appointment at the apple store to go get it fixed. Waited 3 hours at the apple store and all they said it was was the Developers beta update from January 4th... they factory reset my computer, got home, set it up and boom still not working. I took it to a 3rd party repair shop that is affiliated with Apple and he was resetting the SMC when he noticed a droplet of water damage that must have slipped through the keyboard. He checked for more water damage and didn't see any but he suggest sending it up to apple for repairs bc he's not allowed to work further on it as he can't under Apple's rules. It's a $899 fee... now I'm currently going to another 3rd party repair shop that is not affiliated with Apple and they said they'll clean it for $75 and that should do the trick but if not they can repair it for under 899. Now that that long story is out of the way, my question is, is this a loss cause? With damage to the SMC, does that mean it will never run as fast as it use too? I mean it still works it just gets super slow at times and starts to lag when too much is being used at once.. like will the cleaning do the trick? And if not would replacing the parts be worth the price? Any advice/help would be very appreciated [link] [comments]
New 2016 rMBP 15" vs refurb 2017 rMBP 17" - Help me make a decision! Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:36 PM PST Sup guys. Unfortunately I just had my 2012 MBA crap itself before my last semester of college. Coming from a 13" MBA with 4gb ram and 128gb ssd, my biggest bottleneck was having such weak ram. Definitely looking to get 16gb of ram to future-proof myself to run VM or parallels. I think should be alright with 256gb of SSD along with an external hard drive. Since I'm graduating this upcoming semester, I'm looking for a new laptop to help me finish school and last me years beyond! Currently looking at 2 models:
-16gb ram, 256gb ssd, i5, no touch bar (2 ports)
-16gb ram, 256gb ssd, i7, touch bar (4 ports) I use my laptop between 5-8 hours a day and have it docked to dual monitors while I'm at home. I primarily use my laptop VM/parallels for excel (finance guy), heavy chrome, and moderate gaming. Personally I don't care for the TB at all, but the extra 2 ports are extremely attractive. But tbh I'd prefer the physical function keys. By no means am I a power user, but I definitely could use a fresh update coming from my old MBA. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance! My biggest questions were: -Is the 13" vs 15" older model worth the $250 difference (extra 2 ports, i7, 2 inches of screen, TB)? -i7 vs i5, does it make much of a difference? -Is the touch bar that bad? -2016 vs. 2017 keyboard- is there really a change? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:27 AM PST Hey, I got a problem with my macbook pro 2016, the 'B' key is not working properly. I have to press it multiple times before it responds, sensitivity problem. What is the problem? Dust? Material problem? Genius bar can help me? Thanks, [link] [comments]
