Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:06 AM PST My system drive currently has the High Sierra installer on it with a folder 'Recovered Items', inside that folder are 'Library', 'Users' and 'System'. I don't have the discs to reload my software back on to the Mac, is there any way to restore the software from this 'Recovered Items' folder into a new installation of MacOS? [link] [comments]
Copy & Paste (Clipboard) BROKEN since the Root Security Update. Posted: 01 Dec 2017 12:00 AM PST Anyone else having this issue? My MBPr won't let me copy and paste images into Discord or Microsoft Word. Rebooted a few times, same issue. (MacBook Pro Retina, 2015, 13-inch, High Sierra 10.13 + Patch) [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:30 AM PST I often experience that the Cmd+Zoom breaks in HighSierra. Im on a MacAir + External Screen. When things get tiny I often zoom in on the entire GUI. This has worked perfectly ever since I discovered the option many years ago. Now, with HIgh Sierra, I find myself stuck in Zoomed-in mode. The mouse which usually has the ability to move the zoom-area, no longer does this, and since im zoomed in often at ~200%, I loose all access to System Preferences or the top menu bar. If I disconnect my external screen, the screen on my macbook air goes black - once reconnected, its back again, but still in zoomed in mode. Has anyone found a solution for this -incredible- annoying bug ? [link] [comments]
Constant file conflicts and "changes by another application" Posted: 30 Nov 2017 02:53 PM PST Hello, I've been having an annoying error for the last few months. Almost every document I edit (I'm using Byword and Pages mostly) will pop up with a file conflict error within a few minutes of editing. This happens with new documents and editing old ones. The error says, "The document [TITLE] could not be saved. The file has been changed by another application. Click Save Anyway to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click Revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes as a version. You can also click Save As to save your changes to a different file." I then can choose Save As, Revert, or Save Anyway. I always choose save anyway since that has always been the correct version of the file. I can't figure out why all of my documents are constantly raising this error. With Byword, I am accessing a Dropbox folder that is also being used by NValt, but I haven't had a problem for a few years with that combo. Most of the Pages docs I am editing are also on Dropbox, but I don't think many people are having the same problem with Dropbox. Does anyone have any ideas on this? The error will pop up constantly while I am editing and is quite frustrating. If I choose "revert", I lose all the changes I just made. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Why is my Guest User Account Still Turned On? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:09 AM PST After installing the newest High Sierra patch my "Guest User" account still appears on my log in screen, despite remaining turned off in Settings. I don't understand. [link] [comments]
Some More Problems With Safari 11 Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:28 AM PST So adding onto the Youtube (which seemed to resolve itself) and Twitch issues, I found a few other things. When downloading PDFs, even with "ask for each download" for the download location enabled, it still automatically saves to the downloads folder. This is not an issue however with .dmg files and such. I'm also noticing that PDFs and pictures downloaded do not automatically open when I have open "safe" files after downloading enabled (it used to for my pdfs at least). I have tried wiping the drive clean and reinstalling MacOS so I don't believe this is specifically to do with my system. Can anyone else test for these bugs? [link] [comments]
Utility to determine which app has defined a keyboard shortcut? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:34 AM PST Hi, I would swear I saw a small free utility to do this but copious searching is coming up dry. I am looking for an app that can tell me what app or process has installed a particular keyboard shortcut. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Connect phone number to iMessages on Mac Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:43 AM PST I don't know what I've done or when it occurred but my phone number isn't showing up where the check-boxes under You can be reached for messages at" is. Only my email address. I've signed out of iMessages, deleted, icloud, added icloud back, and then enabled again for iMessages. Weird thing is the number. [link] [comments]
Root security bug fixed in beta? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:35 AM PST Does anyone know if the root password bug is fixed in macOS public beta 5? When I attempt to update through the App Store, no update is available. Version 10.13.2 Beta (17C83a) [link] [comments]
[Question] How do I get off of the 10.13 developer beta onto a stable release? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:14 AM PST I'm currently on a 10.13.1 beta. It's horrible, so I want to upgrade to the stable 10.13.1 release. The problem is, I can't see any updates for High Sierra to 10.13.1 – I only see an update to another 10.13.2 beta. Edit: Actually I can't see a 10.13.2 beta either, which is funny because I'm pretty sure 10.13.2 is on its fifth beta release. [link] [comments]
Best version of Adobe Acrobat for iMac Sierra? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 12:14 PM PST I don't have High Sierra yet, but eventually will. I need to combine a bunch of docs into one, and Adobe is what I use to do that at work. What's the best version for my 2015 iMac? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Does anyone know a good scanning desktop app? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:24 AM PST I use ScannerPro on my iPhone and I love it! The problem is, I am increasingly needing to "scan" photos not taken on an iOS device and I cannot easily just use the apps on an iOS device on these files. Has anyone come across a good scanning app for the desktop that can do similar transformations? I have been playing with the python code noteshrink and it is ok but not as good as ScannerPro. Any ideas. I require that it not send the images to any third-party server for processing. It must be done locally. Other than that, I would prefer open source but I wouldn't mind paying for it either. Cross platform is a bonus, but macOS is really all I need. Thanks! [link] [comments]
