Issue with macos filling up all the space on my hard drive

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:09 PM PST

This is an issue I've been having for a few years but I'm just so sick of it now. My mbp 2017 13in will basically fill up any empty space with who knows what. How do I check what disk activity has been happening on my mac and where the big files or folders are ? Maybe some way to check most recently written files ?

Problem in detail: I had this issue on my previous mbp with just 128 gb drive and now having same with new MacBook (fresh install) with 512gb drive. Basically my Mac will keep writing data to my drive. I had about 80gb left after I was done transferring all my music photos etc. I don't know where this space is gone now but I keep getting warnings my drive space is ful. Literally I will have 3 MB (yes mb not gb) and have to delete random stuff. Then after a day or two it runs out of space again (10-15gb). It's basically a continuous loop. I think it happens while my MacBook is sleeping because I've noticed I'll go to sleep at 100% battery and unplug and wake up to 75%. I know the macs don't consume that much battery while sleeping for a few hours.

I thought it was parallels downloading windows updates, but for the past few days I've been on a super slow connection, I'm talking about 100kb/s if possible. It wouldn't be possible to keep filling up 5-10 go every few days with updates downloads.

This is getting really frustrating. Anyone have any clues ? And I don't think it's a virus or anything, I'm computer savvy, don't open random files or visit shady websites, and like I said I had the issue on my old Mac an now the new one even thought I didn't do any file transfers other than carrying over photos library and my mp3's.

Upgraded to Sierra and now printer doesn't work.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 11:51 PM PST

I have a Panasonic KX-MB2000 and I used it before, I upgraded to Sierra and now it sees the printer, I setup the printer, I print from TextEdit and it shows the job "sending data to printer", the printer shows "PC Printing", but nothing is printing out.

It's a simple 2 page text and hooked up thru USB.

Any ideas. I'm thinking there some kind of flushing or spooling or something.

    macOS 10.13.2 - Messages using excessive battery/energy?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:11 PM PST

    Hello all-

I jumped on the 10.13.2 train this evening and since updating, Messages has been using a LOT of battery. It is listed as the highest energy usage program in Activity Monitor (anywhere between 5-15 on the "Energy Impact" scale), and is always appearing under the battery menu in the top-right corner as using "Significant Energy". Has anyone seen similar? It has been charged to full on battery (in case it was indexing or something), and it has been restarted a few times, but nothing seems to clear it up. This definitely never happened on 10.13.1... Messages has always been a very, very low user of battery.

Is There A Way to Access Other Users' Folders?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 04:02 PM PST

Basically the title. My Wife and I are admins on our iMac and would like to drop files between each other's user folders. Is there a way to do this? Or to at least setup a Shared Folder?

    macOS 10.13.2 on 2015 rMBP 15"

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 01:41 PM PST

I know this update was just released so it may take a few days for this question to be answered in full faith, but has anyone on the 2015 rMBP 15" noticed fixes for the multitude of problems that have persisted for this model (1) (2)? I am very hesitant to update until I am certain these issues are fixed.

    Wrong language after 10.13.2 update

Booting from external HD - split screen occurs - horizontal lines - blue screen.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 10:40 AM PST

I'm using a MacBook Pro 15'' late 2011 and running 10.13 on an external drive.

My internal drive has gone to crap. (SMART Drive errors) won't allow me to install any OS. Took it to apple for an second opinion - they said it was the hard drive. We also did a stress test on my logic board, seems to be okay.

A few years ago, this happen before and apple was able to replace the logic board (they had some MacBook Pro program to replace the video card, which by the way is discontinued for my MacBook Pro. They consider it a vintage.

Anyways, I was using my 16G thumb drive to boot in recovery mode with MacOS 10.13. I only was using terminal, utility, and Safari. All was working well, didn't see any problems.

Now that I install MacOS onto my external HD, it started off well but now I get these problems:

Random logging out Screen splits A few horizontal lines u Blue screen then restart

Mind you, I haven't restore my old data using time machine yet.

What's Happening here? Is there another hardware issue I could be dealing with? Is MacOS 10.13 pushing my external hard drive to its limits?

Just looking for a temp fix until i replace my internal hard drive. Before doing so, I would like to know if it's even worth it if I'm having issues with my OS on an external drive as this would only lead me to believe that I have another hardware issue within my MacBook Pro. Please help.

Mouse Barely Working After High Sierra Update

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 09:51 AM PST

Last night I installed the HS update and afterwards it did not recognize my keyboard. I had a spare keyboard that had an USB connector inside and once I connected my keyboard through the USB connector it worked just fine. My mouse however, worked ok for about an hour, then it's very slow and barely responsive. I tried 3 different mouses, same story. Do I just need to go out and get another one of those connector things or is there another/proper solution?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Acestream and MacOS

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 02:57 AM PST

Has there been any updates on Acestream working on Mac? I know that couple of years ago there was an option to do that through some sort of emulator thing. Never tried it as I'm not a big fan of those. Wondering if anyone found a better solution?

Don't fully understand why Acestream link don't work with VLC since AS is basically tweaked VLC?
