Just found this guy, he’s even running iOS 6!

So this is why the iPhone 5s has aged better than previous models. It was really close to the A8 chip on the 6.

You can say I’m enjoying the new Apple Pay cash feature quite nicely

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:46 AM PST

TIL it’s about the same cost to buy new AirPods than have the battery replaced.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 08:34 AM PST

    Apple cost: https://imgur.com/a/soYQh

Got off the phone with Apple support today about my AirPods battery. So apparently it costs $49 per AirPod if you need the battery replaced as well as $49 for the charging case.

So that's $147 once your battery goes out (which after a year mine is starting to not hold as good of a charge, only get about 2.5-3 hrs) Add the shipping charge of $6.95 and I might as well buy new ones instead.

Facebook: possible to disable the ‘Welcome to new Camera’ when swiping right on the main tab??

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:07 AM PST

Hello, sorry if this has been covered before. I would be surprised if it hasn't. I tried to search Google but seem like I'm not inputting the right key words.

Anyways, on the Facebook iOS app on the main home tab if you swipe right you have this 'welcome to new camera' thing where you can take pictures, have your face transform into something else, blah blah.

Issue is I don't use it and keep invoking it when I swipe back. I can't seem a settings to disable it. It was possible via a tweak when I had my phone jailbreak, so I assume there's no default option to turn it off.

My ~daily family data use report. Excel file in OneDrive. I request a daily data use report & receive a text. Copy the text to Excel on iPhone. Spreadsheet converts text to simple chart. Paste chart into family iMessage. Three teenagers that manage their data much better when I do this.

iBooks is constantly removing unfinished books from the phone

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 03:57 AM PST

My iBooks app keeps erasing books I am currently reading, almost each time I close the app. Whenever I want to go back and continue reading a book, I have to download it from the cloud, over and over again. It's a fairly recent issue, maybe a month or two now that it does that. Never noticed it happening before. I tried to google, but only find people having same issue and no solution. Any ideas?
    edit: I am on 11.1.2

How much is a fair price to swap out the batteries between two iPhone 6S units?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 07:24 AM PST

I have two iPhone 6S units. One has a battery going bad, the other has a much better battery. I'd like to just do a swap between the two. So that'd be labor only. How much is a fair rate to charge if I were to go to a phone repair shop? The folks at UBreakIFix said that it would cost $50, is that high or about right?

    Best Bluetooth Controller for Iphone

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 08:36 AM PST

Fam... My little brother recently acquired an Iphone 8. He's been a long term droid user and is only going to use it because a family member gave him the phone and would be heartbroken if he did not. He's really into running emulators and gaming on his phone with a Bluetooth PlayStation style controller (apparently Iphones don't pick up the type he uses are a Bluetooth device). I want to buy him something for Christmas that he'll enjoy. Anybody in the vast sea of Reddit knowledge know what I can buy or how I can make this happen?

Can’t believe Apple and we’re already on iOS 11.2

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 11:10 AM PST

One of the first things included on every online store is the ability to add an item to a wish list so you can return to it later when you're ready to buy.

In iOS 11, Apple made an extremely daft decision to completely remove this feature that was in iOS 10. So far, Apple hasn't come out to explain why the wish list function was removed from the AppStore as it makes no sense.

This trend of Apple removing features with the release of iOS 11 is unacceptable.

Moving back to iOS: 7 plus or 8 plus

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:48 AM PST

Hey ladies and gents, current Android user here on an S7 edge, looking to make a come back to the Apple ecosystem. Really excited to get immersed in it again. Now for the tough decision though... Go with the 7 plus or the 8 plus!

Are the upgrades in the 8 plus worth it? Keep in mind I plan on buying pre-owned so from what I'm seeing in my area the 8 plus would be 850/900$ CAD for the 64 gb model (again used) or 700$ CAD for the 7 plus (again used).

Or will I be disappointed and just get the X? Almost everyone thats selling an 8 plus that I've asked why they are selling it say they're getting the X. 1319$ CAD plus tax, so 1500$ CAD just seems ridiculous for a phone! At least with a used 7 or 8 plus I could get an apple watch and still be under 1500$ CAD.

    What our your folks thoughts?!

    Thanks!

    [FYI] About Large Titles

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 07:06 PM PST

Here are some things about iOS 11's "Large Titles" you may not of known.

    Large Titles are dynamic

They are not "wasting" space; They automatically reduce in size to the standard title height whenever scrolling content into view. This means the same amount of space is still used,

    Large Titles are accessible

Reachability is not a replacement for accessible design. Large titles push top most content down the screen, making content easier to access with one hand. And thanks to their dynamic presence, they still allow "lower" scrolling content to be as accessible as usual. No more frustratingly double tapping or siding down on a bar.

    Large Titles are expressive

They're hard to miss; This allows them to easily indicate which section of an application you are in, and give the interface a visibly different appearance from other systems. This makes identifying sections easier with a quick glance, and improves the overall usability of the UI. Good UX for the win!

    Why am i posting this?

Every few weeks I see a post here, at r/apple, or other iOS related subreddits about how the new headers are "wasting space" and useless. However, many seem to be unaware of the design benefits they bring, nor of their ingenuitive design. As such, this post is designed to helpfully explain these design aspects! You don't have to like the new headers; they're big, they're bold, they're different. It's ok to be offput! But it may help to know how they work before you pass any judgement! 🙂

Is there an app that provides rock solid calendar notifications?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:33 AM PST

All the calendar apps i've used have terrible notifications. They all rely on the calendar events themselves to have notifications setup. I want to be able to have notifications that apply to the entire calendar. So for example, I want to get notifications 10 minutes, 5 minutes, and at the time of the event, across an entire calendar. When people send me meetings at work, they set the reminder to either nothing or just 15 minutes before. Anyone know of apps that have this feature?

Browser/App cache clears almost every time I lock myphone

    Posted: 08 Dec 2017 06:45 AM PST

I use quite a bit of apps which take a bit of navigation to see the info I need, along with websites for which I need to log in to see/edit my data. My problem is that if I lock my phone for 5 mins, everything gets cleared and I need to open log into the websites again, the apps need to load all over again, etc.

Is there a way to prevent the apps/websites from loading everything from scratch every time I lock my phone? I'm using iOS 11.2

Google Assistant - I'm test driving an iPhone 8 and there are lots of things to love but I'm finding the truncated version of the Assistant bothersome. I've tried using Siri but she's just about as useful as a wool blanket in hell. Anybody have a good workaround?

Switchers from Android to iPhone X, what is your experience like?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2017 04:38 PM PST

I've been using a Galaxy S7 edge for a year now. Been on Android since 2010, with the exception of an iPhone 6 plus for six months when it came out. I switched back because I honestly missed the extra features of Android and it seemed like the 6 plus wasn't fully utilizing it's big screen. A few weeks ago I sent in my Edge for a repair on carrier insurance, and they returned it in significantly worse condition than I sent it. I'm talking pry marks on the sides of the screen Glass with the display exposed, and a shattered back. As a result, the carrier is letting me upgrade to any phone at a significantly reduced cost. The iPhone has been jumping out at me, I've recently gotten into iOS development and only have an iPad to test my apps on, and I use a 2016 MacBook Pro, so it seems like the iPhone could be a worthy purchase. So, those of you who switched from a modern, great Android phone, what is iOS like? Do you miss it?
