Apple TV remote recently stopped working, but only in a very specific situation. Any tips? Posted: 01 Nov 2017 08:48 PM PDT I used to be able to Airplay to my soundbar (through my Apple TV) without having to turn on my screen (it's a projector).. now I have to turn on my projector to adjust the volume with the Apple TV remote. I can turn the screen off right after I hit volume up or down for the first time and it stays connected. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to fix? Thanks in advance! iPhone 6 dropped in the toilet Posted: 01 Nov 2017 08:48 PM PDT Stats:
Yep. It happened to me. I pulled it out after 15 seconds or so, but the damage was done. I stupidly started drying off my case first, but I got to the phone within a minute. I didn't even think of getting the water out of the inside - but there didn't seem to be much. I tried to use it, it was slow and a bit glitchy, but I kept it on and went back to class. Once my class was done, I pulled it out. Worked, slowly, and glitchily, but it still worked. I restarted it, and it began to endlessly loop of Apple logo, off, Apple logo, off, for half an hour or so. I tried to intervene but nothing worked. Water was possibly still in phone. After the logo cycle ended, it landed me on a water damage screen that I had never seen before. Skipped it, since the school wifi needed a login password and it wasn't letting me put it in. Phone turned on and worked for another 5 hours or so, like before, but VERY glitchy. The volume kept fluctuating without me touching it (either went to max or min), apps were terribly glitchy every other 2 minutes, and volume control stayed on screen, blocking half the screen. No physical controls worked correctly at all besides shutting down (couldn't even lock screen, until I used assistive touch). I tried restarting, did same things every time. I then let the battery die, since I didn't want to make things worse. Turns out I did. I let it sit, no SIM card, blown out with a keyboard air cleaner thingy for a couple hours, then plugged it in. Everything seems to work now, except the screen, which is now completely dead. I think touchscreen is working, and BT definitely is working. I'm using my Apple Watch v0 to control my phone at the moment. I belive my parents bought insurance through Verizon for the phone, but we are on a tight budget right now. What would be the best course of action for me right now? I could also purchase a repair kit, if that'll save money. I could make a couple bucks off of other teens that have iPhone problems as well if I go that route. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Since new router, can't connect to named LAN server. Posted: 01 Nov 2017 08:43 PM PDT OS: 10.11.6 Since I upgraded my home network's router to a Ubiquiti Edgerouter, I haven't been able to connect to a NAS via it's name I have setup. I can connect if I use it's new IP address and I can connect via it's name through my windows system, but not my desktop or laptop macs. When I ping the server name, I get 198.105.254.20 for the IP address. It should be 192.168.1.49. [link] [comments] |
Numerous Problems w/ iOS 11.0.3 (iPhone 6) Posted: 01 Nov 2017 08:10 PM PDT Hi Everyone, I can't seem to find any reliable answers on how to fix the number of problems I've been having with my iPhone 6 after and ONLY after updating to iOS 11.0.3 -- these have all been occurring consistently, not just here or there, since I downloaded iOS 11.0.3 about a week and a half ago. (Yes, I waited this long... because the LAST time a big upgrade came out, it bricked phones!)
--- This leads me to the question of perhaps me having missed a "feature" or something new that was added relating to motion detection or the volume buttons being able to hang up a call or something.
Is iOS 11.1 supposed to fix any of these? Does anyone know any way I can stop my phone from being so ultra-sensitive during calls when I'm using my headphones? I've never read about the iPhone actually spontaneously playing music either, but that's the least annoying thing on this list of issues. Your time and assistance is very much appreciated! Error connecting to the Apple ID server (fresh install) Posted: 01 Nov 2017 08:03 PM PDT Hello everyone. I've dug up an old 2006 Macbook. I remember wiping the HDD before stowing it away for a couple years. The last OS it had on it was El Capitan. When I go to "Install Mac OS X" at boot up, it asks me to enter my iCloud information. I enter it correctly but it always returns the following error: There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server. I checked the Wi-Fi connection and the laptop is connected to my AP. I tried restarting the machine. I've verified my iCloud information is correct by logging in on my desktop. Any ideas how I can get this thing back up and running? [link] [comments] |
Question about transferring from AT&T NEXT to Apple Upgrade Program Posted: 01 Nov 2017 07:16 PM PDT So I've gotten myself in a bit of a predicament. I currently have an iPhone 6S Plus that I still have a balance for on AT&T NEXT. On Friday morning I'm planning on lining up early to upgrade to an iPhone X and switch to paying for that phone with Apple's payment plan instead of AT&T, Now to my misfortune tonight I dropped my phone a mere foot and cracked my screen. I'm wondering if it's still worth it for me to try and trade in my current phone Friday morning with its cracks, because Apple's trade in policy does allow for that. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2017 07:12 PM PDT I've "ruinned" probably 3 pairs of EarPods. Pretty much over the course of around 6 months, the sound quality gradually gets quieter and quieter, poorer and poorer. I personally produce a lot of wax, but I'm sure to clean out the ear pieces in some way shape or form every so often, whether it's just digging it out with whatever's handy (Yeah, I know. I'm disgusting). Or getting a wet q-tip and gently removing wax. However they've gotten quiet to the point where I almost always have them on max volume, and just then it's a comfortable volume. If I angle them though so the smaller hole on the more flat part of the EarPods are aiming in my ears, it's super loud. Sounds like crap though due to no seal. I'm thinking that wax may have somehow been compacted beyond or within the metal mesh, because I went and thoroughly cleaned them a few days ago. Everything appeared to be brand-new... but it still sounded the same. Is there a way to clean this out or break it down somehow? I want to get AirPods but I'm worried this same "fade" will happen over time. [link] [comments] |
iMac and MBP, same video card, very different graphics performance? Posted: 01 Nov 2017 07:00 PM PDT I have a 2017 iMac 4K with a 3.6GHz processor, 32GB RAM, and a Radeon Pro 560 4GB video card. I just bought a 15" MacBook Pro with a 2.9GHz processor and 16GB RAM which also has a Radeon Pro 560 4GB video card. The game Total War Warhammer comes with a benchmarking test. Running the test with the same resolution and video settings on both computers gives wildly different results. The iMac runs about 40fps. The MBP runs about 10fps. While the two have the same video card, the iMac has twice as much RAM (though I thought 16GB should be more than enough) and a faster processor. Is this likely the reason why there's such a big difference, or could there be a fault with the MBP? I've confirmed that the MBP's discrete graphics card is running during this benchmark. Both are running High Sierra on APFS. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2017 04:44 PM PDT My iPhone 6s is responsive and my computer detected it required an update through iTunes. I followed all of the steps listed here. I tried updating it to 11.1, and the computer says the update is complete and the phone will restart. Once it restarts, it goes back to the screen saying "support.apple/iTunes/restore". There are no specific error codes. I made sure to sign into iTunes on both my computer and iPad Air 2 (which is synced to my phone). I also tried to restore (factory reset) the phone as a last ditch effort, but this produced the same result. Neither my phone or computer is defective as far as I can tell. My phone is NOT jail broken or used. I've had it for nearly two years (very suspicious considering my contact is also for two years). I cannot think of any possible reason why this has happened. NO VIRUS, ENCRYPTION, DATA ISSUE, PHYSICAL DEFECTS, or HACKS, as far as I know. The issue started with my home button and Touch ID not working. I used assistive touch. My battery has also been draining faster. Once it died, whenever I try to turn it on, the apple logo is shown, followed by an image accompanied by a message which says "support.apple/iTunes/restore." Any help is appreciated. Again, the phone was working fine up until a few hours ago. I followed all of the steps listed on apple's webpage. I can answer any questions pertaining to this issue if it would help you diagnose the problem. [link] [comments] |
iPhone 6s+ Battery Dies While Still Saying 8% Available Charge Posted: 01 Nov 2017 03:02 PM PDT My phone will die right around 7-8% battery. It's actually dead because if I try to turn it on, it will attempt to boot (believes it still has 5%+ battery so it will attempt) and die during the boot. If you try enough it will then finally quit attempting (assuming it now believes it is below the 5% mark so it won't try the boot). If I plug the phone into my laptop it will attempt to boot but fail due to the small amount of current a laptop provides an iPhone to charge off of which is more evidence that the battery is actually dead. If I plug the iPhone into a 2.1A charger for 30 or so seconds and then switch it over to the laptop, I can test the battery with Coconut Battery. That too has it listed the same as the phone (~8%) with the design capacity being 99.8%. This issue never occurred before I downloaded iOS11 onto my iPhone 6s and everything was fine before that. This obviously screamed software issue to me. I did a factory reset of my phone and set it up as new on iOS 11.0.3. After I did that I found out they released 11.1 and upgraded to that. Today was the first day since the restore that my phone was able to drain all the way and it still drained to 8% and died. I have tried to recalibrate the battery (let it die completely, charge with no use for 2 hours past full charge, let drain completely, recharge with no use) but that clearly hasn't worked. Any suggestions? Do you think it's the battery? I just got the battery replaced by a third party (I believe they said they used an LG battery) ~2 months ago. The life of the battery is great and can hold a charge very well. It still seems to me like a software issue, but I'm stuck on how to fix this. I also posted this in r/iphonehelp [link] [comments] |

My Macbook pro gets insane lag spikes (+2000 ms) Posted: 01 Nov 2017 06:30 PM PDT So I have been getting insane lag spikes while playing video games, this is only on my Macbook pro, I tried the ping test on multiple devices on the same network (Wifi and Lan) and only the Macbook pro gets the spikes (+2000 ms) every 30 seconds or so. This only started happening a week ago out of nowhere, I've had it for a year and never had such problems. What can I do to fix it? [link] [comments] |
FaceTime video calls drop when switching screens Posted: 01 Nov 2017 10:03 PM PDT Since macOS 10.13, I've been experiencing FaceTime video call drops when I three finger swipe to a different screen. I'm running an early 2015 13" MacBook Pro on macOS 10.13.1. I've read some posts on here and other Mac subs that the FaceTime video screen stays on top even when switching to other screens and that happens to me too. The only difference is that the call drops with the video screen on top. Am I experiencing an isolated case or has anyone else come across this issue? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Weird loading screen after updating mac. Posted: 01 Nov 2017 09:53 PM PDT After i updated my macbook pro 2016, I tried to boot it up and I got a weird screen with various lines (its hard to explain, i have a picture on my iphone but this sub doesn't allow picture posts) I have a picture for anyone willing to help me. After the loading screen it turns to a lit gray screen and stays there. It will not let me log in and I am getting very nervous. Please anyone with information help! Thanks [link] [comments] |
macbook pro force touchpad unresponsive Posted: 01 Nov 2017 02:07 PM PDT This morning i went to the university with my 2015 model of the 13" macbook pro retina. When i started up the machine from sleep it would not recognise my input via the touchpad. I restarted both the NVRAM and SMC but that did not work. I do not hear the "clicking" sound that is supposed to come from the touchpad. There has never been spilled water or any liquid on the computer. My theory is maybe heat i have Matlab and Autocad on the machine and it runs hot, but it should be able to. I went to my local Apple reseller and they wanted to take in for testing since they have not seen this before, i told them no since i have tests coming soon. [link] [comments] |
Girlfriend's MacBook Air constantly dying while closed or not turning back after going to "sleep" Posted: 01 Nov 2017 09:33 PM PDT Mid2011 MBA with 4gb Ram and i5 processor. Running macOS Sierra Battery has a higher cycle count but still listed as Normal condition. It sounds like a SMC issue, but I have tried SMC reboots multiple times. (Considering doing a battery pull next). The only other odd thing going on is Spotlight is constantly the only app "Using Significant Energy". She only has 40gb of data on it currently and I have tried to get it to reindex but I don't know if it has done so successfully yet. Any experience here? My next 2 planned options are a battery pull (to try and reset SMC) and a hard drive wipe and reinstall. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Nov 2017 03:30 PM PDT So i got the new iphone 8 but before that i made a backup of my iphone 6. when i get the new iphone i restore the backup and start redownloading everything. I make a new icloud because my other one was shared with my family for whatever reason. So i try to download game pigeon and it starts downloading but it stops randomly. Any help? [link] [comments] |
Permanently deleted iPhone photos show up when importing to Mac Posted: 01 Nov 2017 09:21 PM PDT When using Image Capture on Mac to import my iPhone photos, every photo I've taken on the phone since installing iOS 11 gets imported, INCLUDING photos I've permanently deleted (emptied "trash" album and waited days). Also, photos I've kept on the phone and edited get imported in the original, unedited form. All iCloud photo sync/backup options are off. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix it?! Thanks in advance! Specs:

MBP 12,1 running macOS 10.12.6 Freezing Posted: 01 Nov 2017 01:48 PM PDT I have a Retina Macbook Pro 12,1 running 10.12.6 which keeps freezing (full freeze where the trackpad stop moving but screen stays on). This happened on multiple user accounts as well as safe mode. AHT came back fine, disk utility was fine, but it froze while reinstalling (I erased the disk first). It is freezing now while trying to boot into recovery mode. Do I have any options other than bringing it in for service at this point? It was purchased June 2016, so it is disappointing that this is not too long after the warranty expired. [link] [comments] |
Splitting photos between Dropbox and iCloud Posted: 01 Nov 2017 05:00 PM PDT I've reached my iCloud limit (200GB) and don't want to move to paying $9.99/month since I also have a Dropbox account for work/personal use which is the 1TB account. That said, I have plenty of storage remaining on Dropbox. Ultimately, I want to be able to access all of my photos from all of my devices but again, without upgrading my iCloud account. I was hoping to be able to off-load a bunch of my older photos to Dropbox, then delete them from iCloud and then only have only my most recent several gigs of photos on iCloud/simultaneously synced to all devices. As my iCloud fills up, I'll continue to offload photos to Dropbox for continued access there on all devices. Here are my questions... Has anyone effectively done this? Is there anything I'm overlooking that makes this a bad idea? Other than simply copying x-number of photos to Dropbox and then deleting from iCloud.com, is there anything else I should be doing? Is deleting directly from iCloud.com the best method or should I be using the Photos app on Mac or something else to manage the process? Thanks for any guidance on this! [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 - Won't let me send a text message from a person's contact screen Posted: 01 Nov 2017 02:20 PM PDT When I find a contact in my phone's contact list, I click send message and it just takes me right to my imessage texts. It used to be where I hit "send message" and it took me to an already templated message screen with the contact I'm trying to text. Any help? It bothers me so fucking much. I will give gold to whoever finds a fix for me. [link] [comments] |

Escape key not working on High Sierra with Macbook 2016 TB Posted: 01 Nov 2017 03:20 PM PDT My escape key no longer works on my 2016 Macbook Pro TB on either the touchbar or my re-mapped caps lock key. I'll try on an external keyboard, but since the caps lock key works normally as a caps lock but not as a remapped escape key, I'm pretty sure it's a software problem. There's a suggestion on stackexchange to disable Siri and restart, but that didn't help me. Has anyone here seen this problem? I'm considering doing a factory wipe & restore from Time Machine. Edit - I have also tried resetting the SMC by holding Shift-Control-Option-Power for ten seconds at boot. Edit2 - I have also tried resetting NVRAM / PRAM by holding Command-Control-P-R for 15 seconds after boot [link] [comments] |
