Can you use an iTunes card to "reset" an iPad? Posted: 02 Nov 2017 09:14 PM PDT This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't owned an Apple product since the iPod nano came out. Anyways, I work in an electronics department, and a guy came in with an iPad that he says he just bought. He rambles about how he needs to reset it and Apple says that he needs an iTunes card to do it. I tell him that it sounds like a scam to me, and he explodes. Tells me that he's been talking to Apple directly and they know better than me, and am I calling him and liar? Then he calls "Apple" and immediately gets through, and I can hear a guy ask him if he got the iTunes card. The customer asked me to talk to "Apple," I refused. I tell the guy that I'll sell him the card even though I don't believe that he's talking to Apple, because he's an adult, and that the card is non-refundable. I forget about it until about an hour later when I'm helping someone else, the same guy comes back and interrupts us to tell me that the card didn't work but Apple refunded him, and I think he bought another card from my coworker. He looked so smug that it's been bothering me all day. Can anyone who's familiar with Apple support tell me if I could have been wrong? Maybe I shouldn't have assumed that it was a scam. Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this. Since I don't own anything Apple I don't frequent Apple subs lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 05:11 PM PDT Starting yesterday, any time I type "I," my phone attempts to auto-correct to A and a symbol. I started noticing that it is happening to others, too, because even though the auto-correct does not show in iMessage on the phone, it does appear on Instagram and in texts that come through on my computer. Does anyone know how to fix? I have already updated to 11.1 Thanks! [link] [comments] |
High Sierra (10.13.1) never-ending mdworker. Posted: 02 Nov 2017 08:23 PM PDT I've seen a "no bag" error when updating from 10.13 to 10.13.1 via the App Store, teal screen on restart, kernel panics (that appear to cite mdworker and AFS). But the real issue I'm seeing is that Spotlight/mdworker appears to never end. I've installed this as a clean install and manually moved over files but I would think that after 2 days mdworker should be done. And yet it's still going... Anyone else experiencing this? Posted: 02 Nov 2017 07:16 PM PDT How can I revert back to iOS3 on my apple watch? Its currently at 4, which is forcing me to buy bluetooth headphones in order to control my music.. the music app is completely useless now and it was like 70% of the reason I ever even used the watch [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 04:28 PM PDT Yo, before the update, no matter where the assistive touch button would autocenter to the middle of the screen after clicking it, no matter where it was located. Now, it'll just expand from wherever it is on the screen which is really annoying. Any way to fix/change this? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a good stylus for ipad pro Posted: 02 Nov 2017 06:37 PM PDT Ive been looking for a good stylus Ive definitly considered getting an apple pencil and i might just do this BUT im wondering if their are any other pencils that use the digitizer not the capacitive touch screen for the ipad pro. I lost my apple pencil and i dont want to spend another 75$. I need something with palm rejection and high acuracy. I am doing digital art. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
OS X 10.12.6 - logged into iCloud email, and pasting text into email results in double texts Posted: 02 Nov 2017 08:27 PM PDT When I'm logged into my iCloud account to send an email, I fill in the to and subject lines, then paste some text into the message. Whatever I've pasted in gets pasted in twice. I'm not coming up with anything on a google search. Has this happened to others on OS X? It's only when I'm pasting text into the message body of emails. How To Show All Songs in iTunes? Posted: 02 Nov 2017 08:10 PM PDT I noticed that iTunes is not showing all songs for my albums. I cannot find a setting to show them all. If I expand out the window to where it shows 2 columns of songs it will show all songs, but if it's only 1 column it misses quite a bit from most albums. The image album below should show what I'm talking about. Any way to fix this? Wreck It Ralph shows 14 songs in 1-column view, but it's actually 25 songs as you see in 2-column view. It's a MacBook, so when I'm not docked to my external monitor I don't have the screen real estate to expand to the 2 column view or I'd leave it that way. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 08:06 PM PDT Hi, I am currently having some issues with an old Macbook Pro. Every time I start it up the apple logo appears but it is shaded by a gray box. Below it is the loading line which is also glitched out. The line moves for about 30 seconds then the whole computer shuts down and starts the whole process again. Thanks for any help. Posted: 02 Nov 2017 02:34 PM PDT I have a iPhone 8 running 11.1 that suddenly has decided it wants to autocorrect me typing out 'I' to A and an invalid unicode character ('A [?]' is roughly how it looks.) which appears fine on my phone but does not on my iMessage running on my Mac (10.12.6). Here are some screenshots from my phone and from iMessage. https://imgur.com/a/sNJS8 The weird character started showing up in a message I initiated on my phone. I was messaging with a friend and looking at my history on my Mac it appears I sent the first instance of it and then after that I was getting them back from her as well. No one else I've talked to sends them but when looking at my history on my Mac they show up incorrect to a variety of people. iMessage on my Mac is unaffected other than displaying them. Any ideas? No one I message sees it though I think a friend said it showed up incorrectly on his watch. If I select 'I' instead of letting it autocorrect it appears fine. If I copy the weird character and paste it into TextEdit it appears as an 'I' just fine but Microsoft Word doesn't like it. [link] [comments] |

Mid 2012 Macbook Pro sudden slow down repeated pinwheel appearances. Posted: 02 Nov 2017 07:00 PM PDT Hello, Today my macbook pro started acting strange. It has suddenly slowed down after every action, freezing and displaying the pinwheel. I'm running High Sierra, with 8g of ram. I don't really know why this suddenly happened today. However I had three updates: iTunes 12.7.1, macOS 10.13.1, and Xcode 9.1. EDIT: A few weeks ago I replaced the flex cable. Could that be the problem again? Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
MBP Early-2011 SSD Upgrade Gone Wrong?? Posted: 02 Nov 2017 04:47 PM PDT Hi guys, At a bit of a loose end with my MBP SSD upgrade, might be a long post so skip to the end for bullet points!!! Earlier text is to show everything I have currently gone through for clarity. Starting my final year of Masters I thought I would upgrade to an SSD to increase my tired slow MBP as everyone else around me started getting newer, more flash MacBooks which ran rings around mine. I don't have the cash to buy one but £100-£150 on a 250GB SSD seemed reasonable after all these years. I bought a Samsung Evo 850 250GB as this seemed to offer high performance at a relatively low price. I followed a YouTube guide and proceeded to install the drive into the laptop, as I wished to perform a fresh install as a means of refreshing my storage, and plan to use my old HDD as external storage should I ever need older files. Upon boot I used the bootable USB drive to install macOS but this didn't run smoothly, short story is that I took it to the Genius Bar and was told that most likely my issues were that the SSD was dodgy and I should return it and try a new one. Slightly wary I did as told and returned the drive for a new one, while also after a bit of googling I bought a spare SATA cable should that be the issue, which is where my problems started up again. I took the new drive to Apple for them to install the software on, however at this point the SATA cable hadn't arrived, and the drive would not show internally, so the install was completed externally. Once the SATA cable arrived later that day I installed everything internally and booted her up. After a bit of wrestling initially with the question mark folder of despair the SSD booted up and I started setting up my MBP with macOS Sierra. After a short while with everything running smoothly, I closed the lid and got the bus up to University. Upon arrival I opened the lid expecting to use my new super fast MBP but was met with a frozen lock screen, which upon reboot was replaced with the question mark folder, internet recovery then displayed the disk in Disk Utility however would not show the disk in Startup Disk. I took her to Apple as the store is in town and with some brief diagnostics the Genius seemed to think I had shorted the Logic Board, however with the MBP previously running smoothly I wasn't too sure of this, and upon getting home and putting my old HDD in my Mac ran smoothly, if not now seeming extra slow compared to earlier when the SSD has been working! The next day I read a few posts saying sometimes the MBPs struggle when they have been installed externally and that they struggle to be recognised as a start-up drive, so in a last attempt I reinstalled the SSD internally, used internet recovery to install Mountain Lion, and updated to El Capitan. The MBP was running fine, I was able to take notes in a lecture, download Microsoft Office and use my MBP as I pleased. However, upon closing the lid to go to my next lecture and reopening 15 minutes later, my MBP had frozen and wouldn't reboot, instead displaying the question mark folder. This time when I used internet recovery the drive could not be seen in disk utility, so when I got home, I reinstalled the old HDD and it has worked fine, turning off and on fine, sleeping and locking fine without freezing etc. Does anyone have ANY idea what might be wrong with my MBP, I am getting desperate to have a working Mac again as lectures and coursework are starting to stack up and I'm starting to get behind. Any help would be hugely appreciated! In summary: - New Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - MacBook Pro Early-2011 - New SATA cable - Mac runs fine while open with SSD but upon sleep or shut down will only rarely boot back up properly, mainly only booting up to the question mark folder - Mac runs fine with old HDD, sleeping and shutting down fine Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer! Mail - Black box instead on actual email Posted: 02 Nov 2017 04:44 PM PDT Hi, Just did a fresh install of High Sierra on my MacBook Pro, and it's weird in mail sometimes instead of viewing the actual email content I just see the box filled with black. Posted: 02 Nov 2017 04:35 PM PDT I have a Macbook Pro from 2012, and a couple months ago it got damaged. Basically I got in a fight with someone and they punched the keyboard. Now, the laptop runs slower and sometimes it shuts down with no warning or apparent reason. It also says I need to service the battery. Will Apple fix this damage if I bring it in; is it even repairable? Here are some photos of the damage. [link] [comments] |
Can't uninstall piece of software Posted: 02 Nov 2017 06:45 PM PDT I recently installed a software called eqMac2 (an equalizer). As an applet, the app is constantly open, so I can't delete the .app file. Also, the volume control appears to be controlled by the app. I cannot find any uninstall guide...help? [link] [comments] |
[iPhone] Some contacts' numbers not autofilling in Messages Posted: 02 Nov 2017 06:17 PM PDT Hi all, iPhone 7, iOS 11.1. When I try to send a SMS/iMessage to some contacts, their phone number doesn't pop in when I type their name in the messages app. Instead, I get their email address. Sometimes this is fine, because their email address is associated with iMessage, and I can still message them. But some of these contacts are not even using iPhones. This only happens with certain contacts, not everyone, and I have verified that all the affected contacts have a phone number entered in the Contacts app, marked as Mobile. Anyone seen this before? Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 06:09 PM PDT This is a small but extremely annoying problem, it turns out I type the word "I" in a lot of situations. It shows up on my own phone only once I send a message/submit the comment I'm typing. I've had mixed reviews on which people on the receiving end get the intended "I" or the weird symbols. Here's what I've tried:
Any ideas?? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 05:30 PM PDT I am interested in buying an older Macbook to use for programming. I found out that the curent version of XCode is for macos 10.12.6 Sierra and up. Can I install a slightly older version of XCode for El Capitan with the native app store? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Nov 2017 01:16 PM PDT I had hundreds of notes on my iPhone 5s that were very important to me. I picked up my phone about an hour ago and all of a sudden every single one is gone, and there is not even a "recently deleted" folder. I checked my iCloud and there is nothing, and I also checked the Mails, Contacts and Calendar in my iPhone and turned the notes part to on. I have no idea what happened. I know I didn't just accidentally hit delete. But every single one of my notes is gone. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Can't figure out how to delete a program on my Macbook Posted: 02 Nov 2017 03:22 PM PDT I downloaded a program, Citrix Receiver, for an old job a while back but I no longer need it. The icon appears in my task bar every time I start my computer, but I have tried searching everywhere for the program's location and my search results always come up empty. I don't have a clue where it's living or how to get rid of it. Besides just searching in Finder for the word Citrix or Receiver, or looking in my Applications folder (it isn't there) is there any way I can find out where this thing lives so I can remove it? I'm using an early 2013 Macbook Pro with Sierra 10.12.4 Thanks! [link] [comments] |

[Bug] iOS 11, Podcasts app not always recognized by music widget on Control Center Posted: 02 Nov 2017 09:53 AM PDT I use the official apple podcasts app, yet sometimes, the Control Center does not recognize audio playing from the Podcast app. I have no control over play/pause, next/previous, etc. The only workaround I've found is to A) either go into the app and manually do what I need (rather than the convenience of what the Control Center is designed for) or B) Hard Reset the phone. This has happened about 3-4 times now since I've updated to iOS 11, and I'm not certain the cause. tl;dr Has anyone else been able to replicate this bug? edit: the widget does not appear on my lockscreen either. Mid-2013 MacBook Air Doesn't Turn On Posted: 02 Nov 2017 02:25 PM PDT I was gifted a Mid-2013 that allegedly stopped working out of the blue. When plugged in, the charging cord stays orange, and nothing else lights up, no fan, no anything. I've tried: Power button held for 10sec and repressed w/ charging cord disconnection and reconnection. Restarting in safemode (it won't boot). SMC reset - this results in the magsafe flashing green for an instant. Removing battery and pressing power button, then reconnecting. Just wondering if anyone can suggest anything else to try before selling it for parts? [link] [comments] |
