Can an Apple Watch Series 3 Cellular be blacklisted? Are the series 3 carrier unlocked?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 06:51 PM PDT

Someone on craigslist has a Series 3 cellular for sale, but it's on a payment plan.

If he unpairs the device from his iPhone, but fails to continue making payments, could the device's IMEI become blacklisted and unable to be used on a cell network again?

How to edit functions of cells on a table in pages

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 02:30 PM PDT

While using an iPhone, there is an invoice template that contains a table. This table has an addition function imbedded in the cells. In other words i can put 10 in one cell, 10 in the cell below that and end up with 20 for the subtotal. I want to know how to edit functions within tables that I create. How do I adjust the location of the tax cell, etc.

    Please halp!

160 GB Ipod Classic not force restarting.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 09:52 PM PDT

No updates for a long time, if any, as I use Winamp. Can't remember the last time it had any kind of problem. Not sure when it froze as it was working fine yesterday. Went to plug it into my computer to add some jive hits and noticed it was frozen. Followed this instruction guide. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204307 however my Ipod classic isn't restarting and remains frozen.

Plugging it into a charger or to my computer does nothing. No sounds. Buttons all feel fine. unlocked and the lock toggle seems to be fine. Not sure on next steps. Let it run out of juice? This thing goes for week playing music hours a day I can't imagine how long it will last with just a lit screen. Haha. Thanks for, your time.

Is there a way i could wipe it all and factory reset it? I'm not interested in the data it has, i just want to format or factory reset it to install an OS X. Thanks

Can somebody help me choosing a Macbook?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 03:39 PM PDT

I'm a programmer and I'm used to work in a windows environment since my job is web development. But soon I'll be working with iOS applications and well you need a Mac to apply the apps into the app store and sometimes having a UNIX based OS helps too.

My problem is well... the butterfly keyboard. Everytime I go into a store I try to type code on a Macbook but I just can't. Probably is not bad, it's just not my liking. What is the most recent series/macbooks that don't come with a butterfly keyboard?

As long as it has a decent CPU and an IPS panel I'm good.

    iPhone 7 Photos organizing/folder/duplicates

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 03:28 PM PDT

I have 100 pictures in my Photos app for my iPhone 7 - but I want to organize them into specific folders (Screengrabs, Friends, Work) - but when I move a picture into the newly made folder - the picture both exists in that new folder AND STILL in photos! (this would be like taking 100 files on a Mac and trying to move them into new organized folders - but the files don't move, just duplicate) My goal is to organize and not clog up my photostream by moving specific pictures into specific folders. And worse, when I delete the picture from the new folder - it also deletes the duplicate from photostream. Any advice? Please help! Thanks!

Macbook Pro not loading programs on dashboard or finding anything in spotlight.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 05:36 PM PDT

Hi, my macbook is acting strange. While I'm using the computer I usually use spotlight to quickly search and open up everything I want. Now when I try it brings up nothing except online searches. I opened up finder in order to open up what I wanted but when I click on the application, nothing happens. I tried opening other stuff but still they've stopped.

I restarted my computer and everything was normal for a moment but then after a minute or two my mac does the same thing. It's even stopped openning my web browser so I'm on my phone right now.

What's going on? (Macbook Pro 2009 OS X Yosemite, replaced HDD with an SSD 3 years ago)

MacBook Air Frozen After Getting Drops of Water on Keyboard

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 05:10 PM PDT

Hi all. I am a very new Mac owner so I have no idea what to do or what is going on.

I made the apparently foolish mistake of having my Air with my while taking a bath tonight. I was using it to watch videos and I set it on the toilet seat. After I got up to get out, a few drops of water got in the mouse pad, some keys, and then the black at the hinge. I wiped them away, but i found that I couldn't control my mouse. I shut the laptop off by pressing the power button, waited 30 seconds, then turned it back on. I was able to click on my icon and type in my password and hit enter. A window popped up saying I didn't shut my system down properly, but i couldn't move my mouse to get rid of the message. The laptop opens to my desktop and reopens Google Chrome automatically. I can't use my mouse still. Then, a window pops up about trying to connect a Bluetooth keyboard, which I do not own. I can't do anything to get rid of the window. I have shut the thing down 4 times now and nothing helps. I also set my Switch on top of the laptop, mostly on the free space near the mouse pad. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I do not have insurance on this laptop because I didn't think I'd need it. I am at a loss for what to do. Any advice would be much appreciated. It is a 2017 MacBook Air 13 inch I believe. It is updated to the newest OS.

    Macbook Retina 2015 Overheating Problems

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 08:46 PM PDT

Using the most recent OSX, everything's updated. Now just this week, my macbook started to overheat within 30 minutes of light usage. I tried to look up why and I realized that my ram is being used extremely high by Google Chrome and kernel task. I dont know why suddenly it's making my laptop heat up which drains my battery faster.

Brand new 15' Macbook Pro "Beeping" out loud

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 04:48 PM PDT

Two different Macbook Pro's have "beeped" audibly over the last few days. I haven't heard them myself, but they are described as loud beeps coming from the laptop. One user described 4-5 beeps, the other said "definitely 7-8 beeps." What's really odd is that one of them was actually muted in the OS when it happened. The other reported changing the OS volume did not affect the beep volume.

They are both using less than a week old machines, running High Sierra. I personally set up the machines, and didn't do much to them. It's not happening on startup, and isn't affecting their work or showing any popups/notifications.

Both laptops are attached to an OWC thunderbolt 3 dock. http://a.co/7dEconJ

I googled a bit and didn't really find anything other than startup trouble beep codes, or terminal errors. Any ideas? I forgot to pull logs before heading home but I am out of ideas.

    iOS 11 Rotation Lock Bug

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 08:26 PM PDT

I've been having this bug on my iPhone 6s Plus which is set to have screen rotation locked in which the phone randomly switches to a horizontal orientation, especially on the home screen (s) for which I also can't rotate it back unless I go into an app that only is vertically based or if I lock the phone. Anybody else having this issue, and/or know the solution?

Time Machine WON'T back up since High Sierra, please I beg of you, end my pain.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 09:38 AM PDT

PSA: I'm fuming with anger. This might not be as level headed as it could be.

Since the upgrade to High Sierra, time machine will not back up to my time capsule. It just won't.

    Symptoms:

Either automatically or manually when the backup process launches, it has no problem finding the disk, prepares the backup no problem at all and then the back up process starts. I see the progress bar, but then it just switches to "stopping". For no reason. At random points. Doesn't matter if it's 356 bytes in, 8 GB in or more.

I've been trying to find answers online ALL DAY. And I haven't found anything.

What I tried to solve it (in order)

    1. Unmounted the disk and then mounted it again. That didn't help.

    2. Restarted the TC. That didn't help either.

    3. Restarted, tried again. No luck.

    4. Restarted in safe mode. Again, nothing solved.

    5. Repeated all tasks above with an ethernet cable connected. No solution.

    6. Pulled everything I had on the TC disk, erased it completely. While it was doing that, I deleted the .plist file for time machine for a fresh setup. I set it up again, with the right passwords.

This is essentially a first backup, the entire hard drive. Same as before: it launches, finds the disk, prepares the backup no problem. Starts backing up just long enough to give you hope, and then stops for no reason at all; crushing your dreams and shattering your soul.

I have no error message, no notification, no nothing. I tried with a wired connection to the TC, no luck there either. I'm sitting 2 feet away from the TC, the connection is great. I can access the disk, it's mounted in the process....

It worked perfectly before, literally never a single issue. I haven't changed anything to the configuration of the TC, haven't touched it aside from restarting it and erasing the disk.

I'm at a loss here, and my frustration is thicker than that stuff you pour down the drain to unclog it or get rid of odors. At this point any suggestion is welcomed.

Setup: 2013 MacBook Air 13' - Base model MacOS High Sierra 10.13 - latest to date (no update available) Time Capsule: 802.11n (4th Generation) - firmware is 7.6.8 - up to date as well

Time Capsule is in bridge mode, connected to the ISP router and repeating the signal. No guest network, passwords all check out - network, base station and disk, disk has no issues.

EDIT: I went in the Time Machine pref pane options and excluded my online storage folders (Dropbox and Google Drive). The problem isn't solved, but the backup seems to get farther along before stopping; and it also seems to be going A LOT faster (well, regular speed I suppose, it was painfully slow before this). It's not a fix, but it seems like a step in the right direction.

EDIT 2: I've noticed that whatever progress I make in a backup, regardless of where it stops, on the next attempt, it picks up with less data. ie, if on backup attempt 1, it says there is xx out of 90GB to back up, and it drops after say 15GB; on attempt number 2, it'll start with xx out of 75GB....

Disk Utility not recognizing SSD as SSD

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 04:15 PM PDT

I'm not sure how big of an issue this is, but I do know macOS handles the way it writes to SSDs differently than HDDs so maybe it'll help prolong the life of my device.

Basically, I have an external SSD that I formatted to APFS through diskutil because Disk Utility kept failing. Diskutil worked, but now in Disk Utility when clicking the (i) info button on the drive part of the status report is "Solid State: No".

Is this a problem? Seems like it is. If so, how do I fix it? I imagine there's a flag somewhere that needs to be set, but nothing in the diskutil manual I'm looking at seems to indicate how I'd specify that this disk is an SSD.

AppleID and phone number issue - please help!

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 04:06 PM PDT

    Hi all!

I've just bought an iPhone 7 and I love it! There is a problem though, as I already had a MacBook (and an iPad), I also already had an Apple ID. Now here's the thing, I successfully linked my phone number to my Apple ID (got the text from Apple with the activation number and when I check it on my MacBook under General Settings -> iCloud -> Account Details, I can see that it's verified). But when I want to select my number on my iPhone in Settings -> iMessage -> Send and Receive, I can't because the number is not there whatsoever. I can only see my Apple ID email. Same on MacBook when I go to iMessage -> Preferences -> Accounts. How can I make it so I can see and select the number there? I already tried stuff from google (logging out of AppleID, restarting and logging back in etc.) but without any luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Need Help Restoring an Edited Note

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 07:37 PM PDT

So I accidentally pasted over some text in a note, didn't notice it and closed my Notes app. Now, I need access to the text that was pasted over, but can't seem to find a way to restore it on either my phone or my macbook. I've tried restoring the Notes app through Time Machine, but whenever I open the restored app, it automatically opens up the current version of Notes instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Apple Maps high databusage

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 03:34 PM PDT

Hi folks. My wife and I both have iPhones - she has my old 64GB 6, and I have a 128GB 7 Plus. Both are updated to 11.0.3. Apologies in advance for the wall of text.

My wife has a SIM only contract with 500MB of monthly data - not a massive amount but she doesn't use streaming services or anything, it's purely for navigation using CarPlay in her car. So Siri, Maps, iMessage, Calendar and News (on her lunch break). Everything else is turned off. She's not a particularly heavy phone user to be fair. All other apps (except 1Blocker) are disabled for Mobile Data.

She's seen, since iOS 11 came out, that her mobile data usage has increased a lot. She uses Maps every day to see where the traffic builds up are on her way into work (there are three roads she can take and each has a rolling series of roadworks on them for the last few and next few months, so Maps finds the quickest route each way every day - quite useful actually!).

Her mobile provider sends her text messages when she hits the big milestones (75% left, 50%, 25%, 10%, 5%). Over the last month and a bit she has got these more frequently. Now, we've checked the Mobile Data in her Settings app and it is showing about 20MB usage for a day (we did a statistics reset every day for a couple of days to see). It's only 5 miles each way, no matter which route she takes, and it's mainly open countryside with decent signal.

We did a test - I reset my statistics and hers, closed every app and then with WiFi disabled, I accessed Maps on both, scrolled across to her place of work, tapped on it, selected get directions, picked a route and tapped go. I then closed Maps, went to settings and turned Mobile Data off and looked to see what both phones used. Both were in vector mode (no imagery) with traffic enabled.

Mine used 940KB, hers close to 3MB. The screen display was near enough identical, although mine did everything a lot faster.

    So, ideas. Could it be:

    A) a botched install, requiring an Erase and Reset?

    B) her SIM only contract is 3G whereas mine is 4G? I would have thought the data being pulled through would be identical, if not more on mine as I could see more of the map on the larger screen.

    C) a system level service related to Maps that is doing something at the same time? I've checked and j can't see anything, that doesn't mean there isn't anything though.

    D) something to do with the phone model? The 6 is 3 years old now, but Maps is a relatively low impact application isn't it? And surely it should have that mapping data cached as it's used every day for it?

I know someone will probably say just use Google Maps, but the CarPlay feature only allows Apple Maps as far as I am aware.

TL;DR: Apple Maps needed for CarPlay on my wife's phone. Seems to be using almost three times as much Mobile data as my phone for identical tasks. No idea why. Help?

Siri won't recognize some contacts (iOS 11)

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 01:13 PM PDT

Since I upgraded my iPhone 6S, Siri has been unable to locate some of my contacts. This has happened to me once more with another software update but I foolishly can't remember the fix! I'll say "Call Alison Smith." And Siri will reply, "I'm sorry I don't see an Alison Smith in your contacts." Which is absolutely false, but at least lets me know its not a diction problem. She has no problem calling other contacts. So far, I have noticed this with two people, but I'm certain there are more.

I've already tried a soft reset and obligatory toggling on and off of Siri & "Hey Siri." What else can I try?

Edit: I do not use any Exchange account or Google to store/sync any contacts.

Someone hacked (or tried to) my iPhone? What can I do to protect my identity?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 06:15 PM PDT

Less than 10 minutes ago my iPhone SE started going off like crazy, a pop up kept popping up then going away (before I could touch the screen). The pop up said someone was trying to access my account in a country (forget what country it was, I didn't recognize it, but I remember it starts with a B). Immediately after that Find My iPhone activated the "Lost My Phone". I unlocked it and disabled it.

Because Apple figured there was some suspicious activity they locked me out of my Apple Account. I also got emails, 2 regarding Find My iPhone (activated then deactivated Lost Phone). Then an email stating a Windows computer has logged into my iCloud account.

I don't have any debit/credit cards saved to my Apple Account. I then deleted my Bank account app, two credit card apps, and any app that might have a debit/credit card saved to it. I turned off iCloud on my iPhone (I don't have it activated on any device right now).

I started the process to recover my Apple Account. Apple won't let me change my password until I recover my account, which according to them can take 24+ hours.

What else can I do to protect my identity and my phone? Should I call Apple customer support? I don't have a laptop

    iPhone backup suddenly encrypted

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 02:27 PM PDT

So I decided to finally upgrade my good ol' iPhone 6 to iOS 11 from iOS 10, and I successfully did so without any apparent problems. However, I noticed that apps were installing unusually slowly, so, I decided that I should try restoring the iPhone again in hopes that it would help.

However, now I am told by iTunes that my backup done earlier today is encrypted all of a sudden, even though I am pretty damn sure that I have not chosen to encrypt my backup, and the update from 10 to 11 went smoothly without any password requests. I did try all the common suggestions, such as: my laptop password, my phone 4-digit password, Apple password, etc., to no avail.

What is quite curious and I believe it confirms my suspicions that it is not normal, is that the "Encrypt backup" in the iPhone summary is left unchecked. I tried checking it, it allows me to enter a new password, after which it says that the password cannot be set. However, upon restarting iTunes the box is ticked! Still, it doesn't allow me to restore the phone from my backup, but I can untick the box after entering this new password.

Edit: My laptop is a HP Envy 15 with Windows 10 installed and the phone is, as said, iPhone 6.

Edit 2: Oh, and iTunes sees the name of my device and syncs all the music there. The phone itself remains on the iOS setup screen where you are offered to choose where to restore apps and data from.

Final edit: I'm a real imbecile, and it's solved. To be fair, it is still weird how the encryption box is unchecked.

iTunes [latest version] getting confused/freezing up when using the play/pause button on MBP.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 12:13 PM PDT

Anyone having this issue as well? The play/pause button works if you're just opening iTunes, and maybe for a bit after, but when you are playing a video in Safari, for example, and you hit the play/pause button, it's almost like MacOS associates the button with any/all other apps that can use it, but never returns the functionality to iTunes without closing iTunes and opening again.

Questions about Mac mail app and gmail.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2017 10:34 AM PDT

I'm using Gmail with the Mac mail app on my MacBook Pro.

    • Are mails downloaded to my Mac, even though I use either imap or pop? I'm using imap on my gmail accounts, but think I had pop enabled on one of my gmail accounts, and I think my gmail settings were so it made a copy on the server.

    • When I reinstalled my computer, I backed up my mail folder. But I didn't import it after the install, and don't know if I need to when all the mails are on the server? Does my emails get redownloaded? Because my back up mail folder is a lot bigger than my current mail folder. And the file size on the gmail server is also different from my mail folders. Don't know why both my backup mail folder, my current mail folder and the server have different file sizes? And also, my current folder is called "V5", and my backup had both "V2" and "V3".

    • And what does the mail folder contain? Is it just downloaded emails? Or is it the mailboxes you've created?
